#43. Because I miss you
2023.10.27.
“Yerin, you’re late.”
The man smiling brightly at her was her ex-boyfriend, Heejun.
A man who knew that Seoyoon was his friend, but fell for her.
I thought I would never see him again, but why was this man waiting for me in front of the villa where she lived?
Since he was someone she didn’t really want to talk to again, Yerin bit her lips and took a step back.
However, Heejun approached her as she moved further away, closing the distance between them.
“Why are you making that face? Weren’t you waiting for me?”
“What?”
Yerin frowned slightly at Heejun’s absurd words.
However, Heejun laughed heartily, seemingly oblivious to that.
“Well. Just because you missed me, it’s not like you’d show it.”
I couldn’t understand what he was talking about.
When he had sent her a text message to announce their breakup, I wondered why he had come to see me like this.
The name of a surprising person flowed out of his mouth.
“I heard it from Seoyoon.”
“Kwak Seo-yoon?”
“Huh.”
When he heard Seo-yoon’s name from Hee-jun, he began to have an ominous feeling.
“What did you talk about?”
“You said you missed me a lot.”
“… … .”
“So you said you were having a hard time drinking every night.”
She was speechless because she was so dumbfounded.
“Oh, so you did that on purpose to make me see you?”
Hee-jun snapped his fingers and smiled, raising the corners of his mouth.
“When we met at the restaurant before. You and Chief Chae-hyun seemed to be really close.”
“That’s… … .”
Without giving Ye-rin a chance to speak, Hee-jun just blurted out what he wanted to say.
“You did that on purpose to make me jealous?”
“Oppa, I think you’re mistaken right now, but that’s not it.”
Ye-rin hurriedly blurted out her words because she thought this ridiculous mistake would continue if she didn’t speak firmly.
“You said you missed me while thinking of me.”
Even as she said it herself, she was so dumbfounded that she let out a gasp.
“We’re already over.”
“If you want, we can start over.”
I don’t know what she believes in to be so shameless, but Yerin was now rejecting conversations with Heejun.
“I don’t want to.”
“What?”
Heejun furrowed his brows as he watched Yerin bluntly reject him.
“You said you and Seoyoon were pretty compatible. In many ways.”
Heejun was the one who said such useless things when he sent her the breakup message.
Heejun waved his hands and started making excuses.
“I thought that was the case then, but it wasn’t. She wasn’t much of a person either. The one I want to see again is Yerin.”
Seoyoon said useless things in the middle, and I knew that Heejun came to see her after hearing that, but there was something she didn’t understand.
Heejun clearly acted like he wouldn’t date her again and disappeared.
So he meant that he wasn’t the kind of person who would come to her just to say that he had feelings for her and ask her to start over.
Heejun, who knew that Yerin was curious about that, grabbed her arm and spoke.
“After we met again at the restaurant last time, you kept appearing in my dreams.”
“What?”
“I think I missed you a lot in my heart. So, please give me one more chance… …”
Before Heejun could finish his story,
a black shadow suddenly covered Yerin and Heejun.
Then Heejun screamed and jumped up and down in his seat.
“Ah, it hurts!! Who are you!”
The man suddenly appeared and twisted Heejun’s wrist that was holding Yerin’s arm.
Yerin softly called his name as she looked at his back as wide as the Pacific Ocean.
“Mr. Lee Hyun.” At that,
Lee Hyun’s expression, which had been frozen coldly, melted away like snow.
Heejun caught the change and spoke one more word.
“Hey, let’s talk about this.”
Yerin was also looking at him earnestly, so Lee Hyun didn’t like it, but he relaxed his grip on Heejun’s arm.
He just let go, but Heejun stumbled for a moment because his legs gave out, perhaps because he was nervous.
“Yerin, are you okay?”
Lee Hyun approached Yerin and looked worriedly at the area where Heejun had just grabbed his arm.
“Yes, I’m fine. You came earlier than that?”
I had asked him to finish the meeting early and come over because I wanted to have dinner with him.
However, it was half serious and half joking, and Yerin widened her eyes in surprise because she had no idea that Lee Hyun would come to her so quickly.
“Because I miss you.”
Hearing Lee Hyun’s affectionate words, Yerin’s face as well as Heejun’s, who was standing blankly next to him, showed a surprised expression.
Lee Hyun’s words had become shorter.
Thinking about it, Lee Hyun had always spoken in a way that made him seem friendly whenever a stranger was in front of him.
He didn’t hate it.
No, he actually liked it.
It made him feel closer to him as much as the shortened words.
And those short words, blurted out like that, were enough to create waves in Yerin’s calm heart.
Soon, Yerin smiled brightly at Lee Hyun.
“Hey. Just wait for me at home.”
Lee Hyun held Yerin’s hand and whispered affectionately.
And he handed her the plastic bag he was holding in one hand.
“Will you go up first with the lunch box?”
“What about Lee Hyun?”
Then Lee Hyun’s cold gaze landed on the uninvited Hee Jun.
“I’ll send this man up.”
His words were so firm that he couldn’t say anything.
Well, maybe it would be better for Lee Hyun to give Hee Jun a sharp rebuke.
Then he wouldn’t have to come and have such an awkward encounter in the future.
When Yerin slowly nodded, Hee Jun’s face showed a look of emptiness.
Before he could stop her, Yerin was already treating me like an invisible person.
“Lee Hyun, I’ll set up the lunch box.”
“Yeah. I’ll be there soon. Let’s have a nice dinner together.”
On the outside, the two of them looked like a couple.
Yerin took a long look at Lee Hyun’s handsome face and turned away.
The two men’s gazes were firmly fixed on Yerin’s back as she entered the villa.
Lee Hyun moved his body using his long legs, aware that Hee Jun was staring at Yerin.
Soon, Heejun, whose vision was blocked by his broad shoulders, raised his head and glared at Lee Hyun.
And soon after, he became tense again at the cold gaze that seemed to freeze the person in front of him.
It was a cold atmosphere that made him feel like he had become a completely different person than when he was with Yerin.
“What were you doing in front of my girlfriend’s house?”
He had met a stronger male than him, so a warning light was ringing inside Heejun telling him to stop and get out of the way.
However, he didn’t want to do that because he thought that if he really ran away, he would lose the chance to start over with Yerin.
Heejun opened his eyes wide as if he was going to come.
“I want to start over with Yerin.”
Lee Hyun snickered at those confident words.
“That’s funny.”
“Yes?”
“Listen carefully. I really hate repeating the same thing twice.”
Heejun’s mouth went dry because Lee Hyun stared at him with his dark eyes.
Lee Hyun was the first person who made him so tense just by staring at him.
“Ms. Han Ye-rin, I’m seeing you right now.”
Hee-jun barely managed to overcome the overwhelming tension in his body before opening his mouth.
“Isn’t it a casual relationship between the two of you?”
Lee Hyun’s lips curved upwards at that foolish question.
“If you’re going to meet briefly anyway and play with Ye-rin, why don’t you just break up now… …”
Lee Hyun took a step closer, and the distance between the two men narrowed.
Hee-jun swallowed hard and took a step back in embarrassment without realizing it.
“There’s so much I need to correct.”
Lee Hyun let out a short sigh.
“A casual meeting? Who would say that?”
“… …”
“I’m very serious about Ms. Han Ye-rin.”
Hee-jun’s mouth fell open at those overly serious words. He
had already finished researching Lee Hyun before he came to find Ye-rin.
He was competing with his half-brother for the management rights of the Jiseok Group, but there was a lot of talk that Lee Hyun was far superior in terms of work ability and was being mentioned as the next successor.
He decided that the only reason a man like that would meet the insignificant Yerin was to have some light fun.
But that wasn’t it.
Lee Hyun frowned as he recalled the absurd words Heejun had said a little while ago.
“And you know better than anyone that you have no right to call Yerin with the word ‘we’.”
“… … .”
“I think you understand by now.”
Lee Hyun tried to end the conversation, but Hee Jun grabbed him in a nagging manner.
“Director Cha Yi Hyun, you’re being fooled by the naive Han Yerin right now.”
“Is that so?”
Lee Hyun’s face showed interest again at the mention of Yerin.
When Lee Hyun reacted, Hee Jun gathered his courage and added one more thing.
“Yerin, you still have a lot of attachment to me.”
“Really?”
“Yes. I’m saying that you might be stuck with me because of your background or money. So… … .”
He was about to add that they should break up, but Lee Hyun suddenly burst into laughter.
“Why are you like that? I said it to
make you feel bad.” What was so good about her that she was laughing like that?
Lee Hyun quickly looked straight at Hee Jun.
“That’s fortunate. If my background and money are good conditions for keeping our Yerin.”
He was a crazy guy who didn’t get angry or upset, but rather liked it.
“No, didn’t you hear what I said?”
“You heard me right. But there’s something I’m curious about.”
“What is it?”
“How can you be so sure that our Yerin still has feelings for you?”
Heejun pursed his lips at the sharp remark.
“Yerin isn’t the type to talk about it herself.”
“… … .”
“Then you’re saying that she heard something strange and came here to cause trouble?”
As if trying to read Heejun’s mind, Lee Hyun gave him an even colder gaze.
“T-It’s not like that. It’s just a gut feeling. Yes, it’s like a gut feeling.”
Lee Hyun let out a breath as he watched Heejun rambling on.
“You’re saying something like a gut feeling.”
Heejun’s breath caught in his throat at the cold, sank gaze as if he knew everything.
