#6. Let’s get to the point.
2023.06.20.
It was the same question she had received that night.
Yerin’s heart pounded so hard that it felt like it was going to burst.
Yerin tried to hide her nervousness and put on a business smile.
“Before I was transferred to this department, I served as Managing Director of Ji-seok Electronics. I think we might have met a few times while going back and forth at the company.”
“Hmm.”
Lee Hyun continued to tap the desk with his index finger, perhaps because it wasn’t the answer he wanted.
‘Do you really recognize me? No. If so, shouldn’t you be asking why I ran away that day instead of asking me like that?’
Anxiety enveloped her whole body and she felt like it would burst at any moment.
‘It’s okay. You won’t be able to connect me from that day to me now.’
The heavy makeup she had on that day was completely different from Yerin’s current appearance.
She would never recognize me since she was wearing a short-haired blonde wig that Na-ri had lent her.
However, Yerin swallowed hard because there was always a chance.
“Even if you say you’ll find out. Would you really talk about that day at work?”
Secretary Choi asked cautiously, trying to change the tense atmosphere.
“Director, why are you curious about that…?”
“No.”
Lee Hyun soon lost interest and turned his head to the report Secretary Choi had brought.
He flipped through a few pages with an indifferent look before speaking in a colder voice than before.
“Team Leader Ko is a man without a conscience.”
Lee Hyun twitched the corners of his mouth and smiled.
However, everyone in the room could tell that it wasn’t a smile of joy.
“Didn’t this plan get rejected once before?”
“Oh, yes. That’s why I clearly told you to revise it and submit it.”
“Secretary Choi.”
“Yes, Director.”
Lee Hyun stared at Secretary Choi with eyes that had become colder than before.
“I’m really upset if you do things carelessly like this because you’re going to quit soon.”
“… … I’m sorry.”
“Is that why you’re going to properly train your successor?”
Secretary Choi could only say, “I’m sorry,” over and over again.
After slamming the plan shut, Lee Hyun turned his head back to Ye Rin.
“Secretary Han, come here.”
As Ye Rin approached, Lee Hyun picked up the plan in question and held it out.
Ye Rin reached out with both hands and took it.
“What do you think is the problem?”
It was a plan she had never read.
The former managing director was an executive at Ji Seok Electronics, but he was part of the mobile division.
It also meant that the data she had seen and heard could no longer be used.
Ye Rin tried to quickly flip through the report and grasp its contents.
The report from the product planning team contained research on recent trends.
It seemed to be a market survey before releasing a new product, but the problem was that it failed to properly grasp the core.
Ye Rin cautiously gave her opinion.
“Because I wanted to include so much information, I think I can’t see the main message that the report is trying to convey.”
Lee Hyun’s eyes turned red as if he was really impressed.
“If it’s okay, would you like me to review the report and make a summary?”
“I’ll do that.”
Lee Hyun nodded once and pointed to the office door as if telling her to go out.
Yerin grabbed the report tightly and quickly left his sight.
The door slammed shut and Secretary Choi gave her a thumbs up.
“Secretary Han, how did you figure that out so quickly?”
“The problems with the reports that come in are mostly similar.”
The former managing director was someone who barely did anything.
Even if a well-made report or plan was submitted, if it was more than one page of A4 paper, he would reject it without even reading it. Who would have thought
that all the reports I summarized while working under such managing director would end up being used like this?
“Secretary Han, please summarize the product planning team report.”
“Yes.”
Secretary Choi returned to her seat, quickly searched for something, and then started making a phone call.
“Yes, are you the CEO of Brand Cheto, Kim Na-ri?”
Yerin stopped typing on the keyboard at the sudden familiar name.
Then, she looked at Secretary Choi as if she was possessed.
“I am Choi Hyun-jun, the secretary who serves Director Cha Hyun of Ji-seok Electronics.”
After politely introducing himself, Secretary Choi quickly got to the point.
“I’m calling because I want to meet you and ask you something.”
Yerin’s pupils trembled.
“Meet Na-ri? Secretary Choi? Why?”
Her heart also started to beat faster.
The voice she heard right after was truly bizarre.
“Our chief threatened me to meet with CEO Kim Na-ri.”
Secretary Choi quickly corrected himself, as if he was sorry for the word “threat. ”
“Oh, it wasn’t a threat, but he was a bit strong. Anyway, my point is, can you spare some time today?”
Yerin pretended to look at the monitor and pricked up her ears.
In the meantime, Secretary Choi ended the call, exclaiming in delight that he had made an appointment with Na
-ri. Secretary Shin clicked his tongue and spoke to Secretary Choi.
“Because of that woman?”
The word “that woman” rang deep in Yerin’s ears.
“Ha. Ugh. I’m really going crazy these days because of the chief.”
It was already hard.
Secretary Choi, who was mumbling like that, kept grumbling as he got up from his seat.
“Why did you lose the woman you fell in love with at first sight and then tell me to find her?”
At those words, Yerin dropped the pen she was holding.
The pen that Yerin dropped rolled around on the desk and soon fell to the floor with a thud.
Secretary Choi asked Yerin, who was flustered.
“Secretary Han? I think my pen fell.”
“Oh, yes.”
Yerin hurriedly picked up the pen and collected her thoughts.
“What is Secretary Choi planning to do when he meets Na-ri?”
Even without asking, she felt even more confused because she knew exactly what would come up.
Secretary Choi got up from his seat and spoke to Yerin.
“Secretary Han, I have somewhere urgent to go right now.”
“Where… … are we going?”
“I have to take care of something that the director is most concerned about these days.”
Yerin followed Secretary Choi and held his hand tightly.
Secretary Choi, who could not possibly know Yerin’s feelings, gave a brief explanation of what had happened.
After the charity bazaar of Brand Cheto, he heard that Lee Hyun had met a woman at the after-party and that Lee Hyun had been desperately trying to find her ever since.
“Why is the director looking for that woman?”
“I think the director fell in love at first sight that day.”
“Huh?”
Yerin was startled.
Secretary Choi let out a deep sigh as if such a reaction was natural.
“If you could seduce someone who had never even looked at a woman in his entire life, you must be an incredible beauty.”
“… … .”
Yerin just bit her lips.
As she listened to the ridiculous story of Lee Hyun falling in love at first sight, sweat dripped down her back.
“I told you not to look for her! It was only one night, so why on earth would you go this far to find her… … .”
Yerin cautiously voiced her opinion.
“I don’t think that woman wants to come find me.”
Secretary Choi nodded faintly at Yerin’s words.
“I told the director dozens of times that I thought so.”
“But?”
“He just kept telling me to come find him.”
Secretary Choi sighed so
hard that the ground seemed to cave in. In the meantime, the door to the director’s office opened wide and Lee Hyun appeared with an indifferent expression.
“Director, I was going to leave right now.”
“I’ll go with you.”
“Director, you’re going with me? I have a meeting coming up soon… .”
“Cancel it.”
Lee Hyun quickly left the office using his long legs as if he didn’t care about the meeting.
Yerin followed him with Secretary Choi and asked cautiously.
“Are we going to meet the CEO of Cheto Brand right now?”
“Yes. I’m going to get a list of people who attended the after-party that day.”
“… .”
It was crazy and exciting.
She had to prevent her name from being on the party guest list at all costs.
Yerin quickly took out her phone and sent a message to Na-ri.
“Nari, I’m on my way to your company right now, so don’t pretend not to know me.”
Yerin got in the car and glanced at Secretary Choi, who was concentrating on driving, then quickly typed a text.
“And later, some guy is going to ask for the after-party guest list. Don’t put my name on it. Okay?”
As soon as Yerin sent the message, Na-ri called.
Yerin couldn’t answer it here
, so she quickly switched to silent mode. If she had known that a one-night stand would have such a big impact, she wouldn’t have slept with Lee Hyun that day.
“Did you know it would turn out like this?”
Yerin stared out the window to hide her nervousness.
Lee Hyun, sitting in the back seat, called her softly.
“Secretary Han.”
“Yes, Chief.”
“Secretary Choi is not good at finding people.”
Lee Hyun leaned back deeply into the seat and looked at Yerin’s back with cold eyes.
“I wish Secretary Han was a little different.”
“Actually, this is my first time looking for someone, too… ….”
“You have to find someone.”
“Huh?”
Before she could even hear the reason for that, the car driven by Secretary Choi arrived at the Cheto building.
Lee Hyun got out of the car and quickly disappeared inside, as if he was in a hurry.
It was a moment when he really wanted to run away.
***
Yerin forced her steady steps and entered the Cheto building.
The large conference room was empty, as if she had heard in advance that Lee Hyun was coming.
“Welcome.”
Na-ri couldn’t hide her surprise as she saw Yerin appearing next to Lee Hyun.
Yerin quickly shook her head as she stood behind Lee Hyun.
“Please, if you have any sense, don’t pretend not to know me.”
Fortunately, Na-ri seemed to have understood Yerin’s feelings and guided the two of them with her business smile again.
“What kind of tea would you like?”
“Thank you. I’m looking for someone else.”
Lee Hyun got right to the point.
