The Chairman Who Has No Regrets Episode 29 – The Leftover Business (6)
Among the two who were paying attention to me, I looked at Choi Tae-woong and asked.
“NBC Scholarship Quiz.”
He blinked for a moment and then nodded.
“Are you going out there?”
I nodded.
Only then does David clap his hands.
“Oh! Great! I’ll be famous all over the country.”
“Is this a good method?”
As the two faced each other and nodded, Choi Tae-woong turned to me and asked.
“But are you confident that you will win the scholarship quiz?”
I shrugged.
Would I have said something like that when I was not confident? At that time, the only thing I was lacking was English. Now that that part has been filled, do I really have any weaknesses? A quiz show themed on high school students’ battle of wits.
“I’m not confident.”
David sighs deeply as if he had been expecting something for nothing. Choi Tae-woong looks at me as if he finds it bewildering.
“Quality itself.”
David and Choi Tae-woong snicker as they ponder my words.
“Are you really confident?”
I ignored David’s repetitive questions and looked at Choi Tae-woong.
“I think it would be quite an issue if a first-year high school student were to beat a third-year student, wouldn’t it?”
Choi Tae-woong nods his head.
“surely···”
Then my gaze turned to David.
“And that will prove just how great the new talent training center is, right?”
“Not enough.”
David nods his head with a face like, “Well, well, well.” The scholarship quiz at the time had the power to make up for the fame I lacked in one fell swoop.
In a time when there were only a few TV channels and it was quite common for households to not even have a TV at home, the viewership ratings for the scholarship quiz that aired on Sunday mornings were extremely high.
I remember that it was still on air when I was lying in the hospital, even though the channel changed. That means it was a long-running program that was loved for a long time.
“But can you appear on it at will?”
David looked at Choi Tae-woong, chuckling at his question.
“Is that so?”
Choi Tae-woong said with a hollow laugh.
“Hey, don’t you know who the sponsor is over there?”
“sponsor?”
“Oh, I didn’t know.”
Choi Tae-woong looks at me again.
“But, Assistant Instructor, don’t you think I’m in a losing business?”
This and that.
If it was Chairman Choi Hyun-jong, he would have reacted differently than he did to his son. It’s a shame that he’s obsessed with petty revenge and trying to return the favor. Is he still a greenhorn?
“Do you think so?”
Choi Tae-woong frowns as I speak with a leisurely smile.
“Isn’t this a losing business?”
“Well, I don’t really mind not appearing.”
“Oh, what’s wrong?”
It was David who became impatient at my words.
The benefits that the academy will bring you right now are right in front of you, so it would be a shame to miss out on that.
Choi Tae-woong’s intentions were fully understandable.
He probably wanted to get something out of having me appear on the scholarship quiz program. He’s someone who has a lot to say to me.
I gave him hints on what to do by mentioning the scholarship quiz, but he still doesn’t seem to understand. He still doesn’t know about the primary. Or maybe Choi Tae-woong doesn’t know.
“Oh, why!”
Choi Tae-woong shakes off David, who has suddenly sat down next to him.
“The scholarship quiz sponsor was a contestant? Ah- I didn’t know-”
“What are you talking about, kill me or spare me?”
“My younger brother- Choi Tae-woong-”
David continues to be clingy with his undying aegyo.
“Oh! I’ll think about it.”
David frowns at Choi Tae-woong’s words.
“We’re only like this? What’s so hard about casting one guest?”
“Oh, right.”
Taewoong Choi looks straight at me as he shakes off David, who keeps getting tangled up.
“You really don’t have any regrets?”
I sipped my coffee with an indifferent face.
Did that look good?
“Really- Tsk, you don’t have any friends? I don’t think you do.”
Choi Tae-woong clicks his tongue and shakes his head.
Friends, friends.
Why was it that Hong Tae-soo was the first person that came to mind when Choi Tae-woong spoke?
“That’s because I said I have friends.”
“I can’t believe it.”
David also nodded his head vigorously, seeming to agree with Choi Tae-woong’s words.
I looked straight at Choi Tae-woong, chuckling.
“After all, you wanted to test my abilities by seeing how I could save and market the academy, right? You were wondering if I had the skills you needed, right?”
The two suddenly became frozen.
I guess I can see right through their thoughts.
“If you wanted to make me take the test, shouldn’t you at least make the testing room neat? How can you do business like that, asking me to hand over my bundle before I even enter the testing room?”
I informed Choi Tae-woong.
Who is the boss in this seat?
Because I have absolutely no regrets.
It might be awkward for Choi Tae-woong, who has always been comfortable in the position of A. He probably never learned what the position of B is like in his entire life, and he probably only bowed his head in front of his father, Choi Hyeon-jong.
The two of them lick their lips. They must have felt embarrassed at the thought that their thoughts and plans were figured out by a mere high school freshman. Choi Tae-woong must have felt quite stung.
“Horror.”
I took a break from whipping to have a cup of coffee.
I’m still a bit weak to fight with someone, so I need to learn how to stop. If I keep getting whipped, I might end up kicking.
Now that I’ve hit you enough, I’ll give you a carrot.
“If I go on the scholarship quiz and win, the program itself will become quite an issue, and if the program’s viewership ratings and recognition increase, wouldn’t that ultimately help the Gyeongseon Group? The whole world will know that the Gyeongseon Group is doing a good thing.”
He dropped a hint disguised as a nagging remark.
Every word is correct, so Choi Tae-woong nods his head helplessly. It seems he hasn’t yet discovered the hint hidden in my words.
David quickly interrupts me.
“Hey, then this isn’t a losing business, it’s a profitable business. A profitable business. Right? Taewoong.”
Finally, Choi Tae-woong shook his head and opened his mouth.
“It’s difficult right now, but it will take at least two weeks before I can appear.”
“okay?”
“Those people probably had original plans, and there are probably people who have already been recruited.”
David grins and puts his arm around Choi Tae-woong’s shoulder.
“As expected of my little brother! Thank you – for even giving in to me out of consideration for my older brother.”
David certainly seemed like a useful character. He was very good at dealing with things. For Choi Tae-woong, whose pride might have been broken, wasn’t what he did because he lost to me or was persuaded, but rather, wasn’t it a concession for the sake of a close older brother?
David nods roughly and speaks to me, looking away from Choi Tae-woong, who is buried in the sofa.
“Do you really have to mention the name of our talent training center?”
I shook my head.
“Then that won’t work.”
“no?”
“The more rumors spread, the more anxious I become. If you spread rumors too openly, that’s just plain mean.”
David shook his head and looked at Choi Tae-woong.
“Is business really that complicated?”
Choi Tae-woong smiles and shrugs his shoulders.
“You know, hyung, what does someone with an MBA do?”
“Oh, so I have no talent in that area at all. Talent.”
Oh, David must be a great person with a good academic background. The more I look at him, the more I like him. What I like most is his attitude of trying to get along with everyone without any barriers, unlike other children from wealthy families.
I think we’ve pretty much covered both, so now I should talk about the details.
“David.”
“Oh, assistant instructor.”
“Our academy is not simply changing its name to a talent training institute. We also need to change our business type and industry.”
“Oh, I know what you mean. I mean, it’s not like we have to disguise it perfectly, it’s like it’s not just a school.”
He nodded.
“These days, the people sitting above me go crazy when they hear words like global and international.”
“I understand perfectly.”
I don’t think there’s any need to explain further. He’s quick-witted and has a high level of education, so he’ll be able to use his abilities on his own. I guess I just have to do my job properly.
I glanced at the clock. It was already well past 5 o’clock.
“Then, shall we end today’s class here?”
David and Choi Tae-woong laugh in vain.
“Hey, I’m an assistant instructor.”
“Yes, Instructor David.”
“Isn’t that too much?”
“What is it?”
“Isn’t it too much to work only two hours a day while receiving 100,000 won a month?”
I turned my head and looked at Choi Tae-woong and said.
“Hey, it’s nothing compared to the tuition paid by the eldest son of the Kyungseon Group.”
Choi Tae-woong turns his head.
Could it be that he was traveling for free?
“You really have no conscience.”
He said with a snicker at David’s words.
“What if I fall asleep during the competition tomorrow because my workload is too much?”
“Wow, you’re a tough guy. You’re threatening me with something like that?”
I shrugged.
Both Choi Tae-woong and David know that what they want is my English skills and not a real assistant instructor.
“Then shall we just leave work?”
“Do it, do it-”
David raised both hands.
Today too, I shook hands with Choi Tae-woong and left the academy.
**
The place where Jeon Kang left.
David and Choi Tae-woong lie down on the sofa as if they have been sucked out of their energy and look up at the ceiling.
“Wow- I can’t believe he’s a goblin.”
David nods his head violently at Choi Tae-woong’s words.
“Yeah, me too.”
“Didn’t you say that he couldn’t afford to buy a house?”
“Oh, you can tell just by looking at the way you walk around.”
“Are you sure? It’s not like you’re acting or anything?”
“Do you want to eat at that restaurant your mom runs for dinner tonight? The stir-fried pork there is superb.”
“under!”
Choi Tae-woong shakes his head as if the more he thinks about it, the more absurd it seems.
“But how on earth do you know about the International Group? Did it come out on the news, did it come out in the newspaper? I only found out about it yesterday when I was talking to my father.”
“okay?”
“Oh, of course, the news won’t say that the international group’s chairman is disbanded because he is hated by the president.”
“Heh heh heh, that’s true.”
“This guy is really amazing. He’s not that dirty.”
David strongly sympathizes with Choi Tae-woong’s words.
“You don’t really seem like a Korean kid, you feel like you’ve lived in America for 30 years?”
“I’m 17 years old. What do you mean 30 years? 30 years.”
“It feels like that, it feels like that. The way he shows confidence and speaks and acts is like the feeling of a successful businessman in America.”
David’s words are half-listened to, half-not listened to.
“Anyway, I’m on medication so it won’t work.”
Anyone who looked at Choi Tae-woong could tell that he had a lot of horns.
“What? What should I do?”
“I’m going to have to give you some trouble.”
He raises one corner of his mouth.
“Did you hear that he definitely has friends?”
“Oh, I heard. But is it true? The kid speaks like that. Who would like that, especially Koreans?”
Choi Tae-woong shrugged.
“I don’t know, you said you had it, so what are you going to do? You have to take responsibility for what you say.”
“What, what are you going to do? Let’s not touch the scholarship quiz. Seriously, our academy is having a hard time these days.”
“Don’t worry, it’s me, Choi Tae-woong. Choi Tae-woong.”
The worry did not disappear from David’s eyes.
Because all throughout today, their plans were thoroughly figured out and destroyed by Jeon Kang.
“I think it’ll be the same···”
“Huh? What did you say, hyung?”
“Pay the tuition.”
“Hey, when did you say it was free?”
“The salary he gets is only 100,000 won a month!”
