Black Badger - Chapter 445

445. Arrest (1)
“what?”
Someone blurted out.
“What is this?”
The air suddenly became tense.
I was probably the only one smiling in this situation. People in neat suits stood in the aisle next to my seat, holding their hands behind their backs, and silently looked down at me.
But I don’t want to stand up and go.
As they waited for the first move, someone in the front row suddenly stood up.
It was Lee Ho.
“For what crime?”
Ah. Take him away when he’s not looking.
I truly felt sorry for Lee Ho.
Nana must have been really happy to have passed the test so well.
“You have to arrest the person on a proper charge. What charge? I can’t even guess.”
“He is a suspect in the attempted core overthrow.”
Conway spoke as CIS representative.
“The warrant has been issued. Please stand up, Mr. Taleb.”
Voices erupted from all over.
I couldn’t hear all the sounds of the simultaneous explosions. I just knew that the seniors who were sitting on their chairs, still reminiscent of the promotion exam, stood up in a rush.
“What the hell is this?”
“Who are they? Wasn’t the media room currently off-limits to outsiders?”
“It’s called CIS.”
“CIS?”
People’s voices were filled with anger and bewilderment.
“What are they doing here?”
It’s not like I didn’t do any research at all.
When borders existed, each country’s intelligence agency aimed to protect national interests. Now that the living radius is divided by cores rather than borders, the CIS is in charge of counterterrorism, counterintelligence, organized crime between cores, and drug distribution.
I had little to do with the Black Badger.
The relationship between the organizations was not very good, but the CIS had long insisted on the right to go outside the core. I heard that they had consistently asked for the right to pursue smugglers and organized criminals who had gone outside the core.
Every time that happened, the Black Badger side would reply, “Those who leave the core have given up being core citizens, and we have no obligation to arrest or rescue them.”
Of course, that’s a story between organizations.
In reality, since they rarely encountered each other, the relationship between the working-level staff was neither bad nor good.
I guess there was no relationship that would allow for such a judgment.
Until now.
Ami, Yoon, and Ricardo know the situation roughly.
If Roga were here, he would be the first to raise his voice.
I made that guess, but I was miserably wrong.
“What kind of nonsense is that?”
It was Hesi who raised his voice.
“What on earth does the Core Overturn have to do with Hilde? Didn’t you see Hildebert throw himself in to stop the rampage!”
“If you are innocent, you can come with us and explain yourself.”
“What right do you have to take me away!”
“What made you send him to your side?”
Behind Heshi’s shout, Lee Ho let out a voice filled with boiling anger.
“Do you think I don’t know how things work out?”
Conway didn’t even glance at Lee Ho.
The others were the same, standing behind Conway, holding their bags like statues.
Then, when I didn’t move, Conway took a step forward.
There was empty laughter here and there.
The irritation and anger contained in it were clearly conveyed.
“Please extend both your hands.”
But Anthony Conway wasn’t afraid even among the augmented humans.
“I don’t want to be taken away roughly.”
Some people burst out laughing.
It was an obvious mockery. It was funny that a normal person would say something like that to a person with an enhanced body.
There were some who raised their eyebrows as if they were displeased, but most people had an expression on their face as if they were just waiting to see how far they could go.
Conway waved his hand, either because that tickled the agents or because he decided he couldn’t wait any longer.
The two men behind pulled out stun guns.
At the same time, several seniors shouted.
“These kids!”
“What the fuck are you trying to do!”
“Where did you get your weapon from?”
“Who did those guys get money from?”
“Hilde!”
I didn’t expect everyone to get angry, but I didn’t expect that last part.
Hesi called my name loudly.
Then he clenched his fists and started running up the stairs to where I was.
I was terrified.
I was just trying to scratch the surface of those who were trying to drag me away while making as many fuss as possible!
I jumped up from my seat and held out my palm to Hesi.
“Hey hey hey!”
If you keep doing that you’ll end up hitting someone!
“Calm down, Hesi! Calm down!”
“Put the stun gun down?!”
Hesi Lail, the runaway locomotive of justice, didn’t seem to hear me.
I had momentarily forgotten that my peers were the most disobedient of all the people who knew my past.
What on earth does your living to be over 100 have to do with us?
Aren’t we in the same class anyway?
You’ve had a hard time living a complicated life. But do you really have no intention of joining the basketball club?
Stalker? You’re busy, we have to catch you!
Contact? Sorry, I couldn’t pick up because I was playing basketball.
But are you really not going to join the club?
You could do it!
Bam!
I took Heshi’s punch with my upper body flying halfway.
Still, Hesi’s fist, which was aimed at the stun gun held by the agent, not at the agent, was blocked by my palm.
Oh, this kid, he swings it hard.
I placed my right hand on the back of the front seat, and extended my left hand diagonally to cup Heshi’s fist.
And then he said to Hesi, who was looking back at me, in a tired voice.
“Hey. If you hit me with this weapon, not only will the stun gun be damaged, but the hand of the person holding the stun gun will also be damaged…”
Then how much trouble will you get into?
“I’m okay, just calm down.”
“How can you calm down when you’ve been accused of such ridiculous things!”
It’s deafening.
“And on top of that, they even pointed a stun gun at you! You were just sitting there!”
Support!
“Ugh!”
A dizzying sensation enveloped my whole body.
I was hit by a stun gun. I stumbled, groaning softly amidst the commotion of people screaming and shouting.
A loud noise of a different level than before shakes the media room.
But I couldn’t afford to listen to it. Ricardo grabbed my chin with one arm.
Thanks to that, I didn’t fall and pulled on Hesi with all my might.
“These kids!!”
“Hesh! Hesh!!”
Fortunately, my senses returned quickly.
I grabbed Hesi with my numb hands and pulled her towards me.
“Please calm down! Why aren’t you listening to me?”
“Why should I listen to you!”
oh.
My eyes widened at the unexpected answer from my motive.
The motive was boiling with anger.
“These kids shot a stun gun in your back for stopping me from punching you!”
That seems to have touched a chord with those watching the situation.
I couldn’t make out all the angry shouts pouring out.
All I knew was that Hesi had pushed my hand away with incredible force.
This kid finally…!
Taaak!
Something flew through the air and hit Heshi between the eyebrows as he was about to swing his fist.
Hesi’s head jerked back. For a moment, I was afraid that Hesi would lose his balance and hit the back of his head on the floor.
But the motive was to fall safely onto his knees, holding the wall.
Yoon said, sitting up from the back seat.
“Sordi. Why don’t you establish discipline for your successor?”
Ricardo, who had been holding my arm tightly, let out a loud sigh.
“Hey, brown hair~…. What’s your name~?”
“No, Yoon.”
As Ricardo roughly pushed aside the CIS agents and walked down to the fallen Hesi, I turned my head to look at Yoon, who had blown the button off Hesi’s head.
It looks like a bullet, not a button.
It’s powerful enough to be a lethal weapon.
“If a normal person got hit by that, they would have a concussion.”
“And he’s not an ordinary person.”
Yoon calmly refuted.
“That’s why I kindly stopped you from causing a ruckus.”
I appreciate that… .
If Hesi had destroyed the stun gun on impulse, even if only the stun gun had been broken, the CIS would have raised an issue about the Black Badger’s protocol or something.
In the worst case scenario, they might even have requested that the enhanced body be discarded.
But which one shot me with the stun gun, the bald one or the bearded one?
Oh, it’s the bald side.
I looked back at those who were standing like statues without lowering their stun guns in the midst of this chaos.
“Please give me your hand.”
Conway is great.
He urged me to hold out both my hands, still holding the handcuffs in one hand.
“This is a legal procedure, so please cooperate. I don’t want to cause any more trouble.”
“That sounds like a legal procedure!”
This was immediately followed by angry cries from the seniors.
“You bastards who ate money!”
Some were ready to jump.
“Aren’t you ashamed?!”
The commotion got much bigger than I thought.
I thought things wouldn’t get this bad since there are a lot of people who don’t like me.
There may be seniors who get angry, but on the other hand, there may be those who just turn a blind eye and whisper, ‘That creature could have done something like that.’
So that’s why I was sitting there smiling comfortably.
“Hey, that’s fine! Just call the heads!”
“Okay, I’ll call Scar and Yehyun, so just stay where you are! What? Core overthrow? Black Badger overthrows the core?”
“After living long enough, I’ve seen things like this too… .”
“Richard! Are you just going to let him get dragged out like that?”
I let out a small laugh.
What should I do?
When I think about what I’m about to do and what will happen because of me, my heart aches.
But regretting it now won’t change anything.
There was no way out. I had no choice but to just push through with what I had decided.
I still regret not saying hello to more people in advance… .
“Taleb. What are you involved in?”
“it’s okay.”
The moment Richard Green stood up and looked at me, I held out both hands to Conway.
Then he turned his head and looked at the seniors in the media room.
“I’m innocent, so nothing much will happen.”
Different faces.
People who I contact frequently. People who I contact occasionally. People who I only see face to face when I’m on the same mission. People who I’ve never even exchanged names with.
But anyway, I looked down at those who had been laughing and cheering with the same heart just a moment ago.
Those who belong to the organization I have been a part of for the past three years.
“I’m sorry for the inconvenience.”
Crunch!
The handcuffs were put on.
The seniors took a deep breath.
“Thank you for your cooperation.”
“I’ll be back soon.”
I turned my head and said hello.
The media room suddenly became quiet. People stared at me and the glowing handcuffs on my wrists, their mouths shut.
If I had had the time, I would have gone out and said hello to more people.
If I hadn’t become the Black Badger in the first place, I wouldn’t have had to worry about the safety of so many people.
That doesn’t mean I regret becoming the Black Badger.
He looked down at the people and smiled.
“I will see you again.”
“Hilde, don’t think bad thoughts and just wait.”
Lee Ho took a step closer.
“Even if they don’t let us out, we’ll get them out in no time.”
Instead of answering, he smiled.
Then, he lowered his eyelids and quietly muttered his thoughts.
“I wish I could keep you all within the reach of my sword.”
Since we can’t do that, we have no choice but to trust in your ability to survive.
“Stay healthy.”
I turned around and followed Conway out the media room door as if he had been waiting.
Several people called out to me, but I didn’t look back.
***
“jack.”
Luke called out the motive for the arrest.
“Why do you look like that?”
