Damn the World, Ride a Submarine - Chapter 17
Only Krnovel
Episode 17 – Omnirisk
The biggest danger to any group is pride and self-confidence.
It is no exaggeration to say that it was ‘recorded and proven in the name of history.’
As always, when it fills up, it overflows, and when it overflows, it flows. China, Russia. The United States was like that too, and it will be like that.
However, the United States thought that the current situation could be maintained because it had the power to match the size of its arrogance.
Another news report reported on a series of shooting incidents in the United States. When I saw the statistics that more than 50,000 people die from firearms every year, I had a scary thought.
It occurred to me that if a trigger awakens public violence, the country that would collapse the fastest might be the United States.
If Russia engages in an all-out war with Ukraine again and China invades Taiwan… Israel to Suez? Egypt in the Sinai Peninsula… India and Pakistan in Kashmir?
Before the climate crisis arrived, there was nothing surprising if the world was destroyed by war.
It is often said that bad things happen all at once.
But it seemed like the world, the Earth, had never experienced such bad things at the same time. So I became more afraid.
What if. What if scary things happen at the same time? I had a fearful thought that a scary world would come where everyone would fight against everyone else.
I felt impatient.
I quickly wanted to own a submarine that I could hide in at any time.
My thoughts continued, and I fell asleep amidst the obsession.
…
I opened my eyes to the sunlight shining through my eyelids.
I habitually opened my laptop and checked my emails.
I found a welcome email.
It was an email from Databricks CEO Lee Kyung-ho.
The RiskScope application was attached.
As the HWS (Hazard Warning System) is still in its early stages, the information may not be accurate, but please look at it from a UX perspective.
Kindly, in the case of iPhone, developer code for installing the prototype was also attached.
Although I already had a developer account for OSX and iOS, I was impressed by CEO Lee Kyung-ho’s attention to detail.
It’s at a point where just sending a general-purpose mock up is enough. A prototype APP had already been sent.
I installed and ran the app.

ORI, omnirisk index, was a value expressing the sum of all unidentified risks as an index. Anything over 100 meant a risk equivalent to war.
When I ran the app, the level of completion was quite high, and I was able to guess the hard work of CEO Lee Kyung-ho.
The index could be confirmed not only through various indices but also through the infogram on the map.
I could intuitively know that the closer I got to the dark red color, the closer the danger was.
Hyein and I headed to Shuri Castle early in the morning.
Although it felt a little annoying, I gained strength thinking that it was the last tourist destination on this itinerary.
It was impossible to pass up the old castle on the island, which was used as a base by Goryeo Sambyeolcho and may have even been Hong Gil-dong’s Yuldo country.
The road to the castle was short, but the scenery was nice.
The once vibrant cityscape gradually changed into a quiet old castle.
The red tile roof contrasted vividly with the lush greenery and seemed to represent Shurijo Castle.
It was surprising that the Ryukyu Kingdom, which claimed to be a vassal state of Goryeo, built such a magnificent castle.
The achievements of Japan, which I was familiar with, were very different. The appearance of Chinese and Japanese castles was mixed. It also resembled a mountain fortress in Korea.
The open view of the island and the sea at a glance gave visual satisfaction. In addition to the majesty of the kingdom, it would also have played a role in guarding against invasions by foreign enemies.
Finished the Shuri Castle tour early. He went straight to his lodgings. It was to prepare for tomorrow’s departure.
The thought of returning to Korea made me somewhat excited.
…
Early moning.
Sonatore sailed from Naha, Okinawa.
I felt somewhat regretful about leaving early Naha, which has a gentle feel. The coast of Okinawa receded like a distant mirage.
Entered the East China Sea.
suddenly,
I thought it would be a good idea to establish a forward base in the Ryukyu Islands. It was too far from Korea to the Tawi-Tawi base.
I sent an email to the head of the planning team at headquarters while on board.
The message was to check whether there were uninhabited islands or coral islands in Okinawa that could be used as forward bases, and whether it was possible.
The anchorage in Korea was decided on Tongyeong.
Considering the facilities and surrounding environment for large yachts, it was the only alternative other than Busan.
Sonatore was gliding gracefully across the vast sea. The closer he got to the Korean peninsula, the more his heart pounded.
I thought of the faces I was happy to see one by one.
‘Is team leader Kim Jun-myeong also in Korea by now?’
My mouth watered thinking about Korean food.
‘White rice, 3 fried eggs, soy sauce, plenty of sesame oil… and a few Cheongyang peppers’
I spent some time picturing in my head what I had to do when I returned to Korea.
Before I knew it, I had entered the Jeju Strait, and the weather was good so I could see Jeju Island with my own eyes.
After leaving behind the disappointment that the short adventure was coming to an end, I felt a new emotion.
While Sonyatto was blowing through the waves in the sea breeze, Jeju Island was disappearing from view.
I found a cigarette on the deck and lit it.
“Here you go!”
It was Hyein.
She was holding coffee in both hands.
“Full of ice! Rich Americano!”
“uh! thank you. Sea breeze, cigarettes and coffee. “It’s the icing on the cake.”
Hyein rolled her eyes as if she hated cigarettes.
“But, do I smell like cigarettes? “Don’t you hate it?”
“I don’t like smoking. however ···.”
“however?”
Hyein whispered in my ear.
“I don’t feel it when I kiss you and my brother.”
“huh?”
I turned around and made eye contact with her. Again, Hyein whispered as if tickling her ear.
“That’s really amazing. When I kissed, when I was in my brother’s arms, and when he came inside me, I didn’t notice the smell of cigarettes. “Like I was anesthetized.”
Hyein turned her head as if running away and laughed. She looked as if she thought she was funny.
“Whether that’s true or not, thank you.”
“It really is. “At that moment, it was as if my mind had slipped into another world.”
Hyein blushed once again.
…
The ship cut through the blue waves. Finally, we arrived in the sea off Tongyeong.
A coastal city called the Naples of the East. Whenever I came to Tongyeong, I felt a fondness for it.
It was a city that captured the hearts of countless literary figures, and whose stories often captured my heart.
‘Baek Seok, Park Kyung-ri, Kim Chun-soo, Yoo Chi-hwan…’
The ship was tied up in Tongyeong and the crew was given a month of paid leave.
Special bonuses were also paid to engineer Anthony, chef, and stewardess who joined us from Italy.
I thought this might be the last time.
I booked two suites at the Stanford Hotel, which is close to Tongyeong Yacht School.
For the time being, I planned to go back and forth between Sonatore and my dorm to work. For some reason, I was reluctant to return to Seoul.
I informed the company of my return, and received a reply from Vice President Min-gyu Jin that he was returning from Tawi-Tawi.
I left a message to the Vice President telling him to come here after he returned from his illness for about three days. He was planning to hold an executive meeting in Tongyeong.
Team leader Kim Jun-myeong had trouble connecting on the phone. He left a DM on his Instagram. After finishing the work he had in mind, he visited the Tongyeong tea house he always went to with Hye-in.
All the food was absolutely delicious, but I especially liked the oysters, which I hadn’t eaten before.
Hyein, who saw me like that, said something.
“Wow, it’s like just drinking oysters.”
“You haven’t eaten even once while you’ve been here. haha”
“I think I can stop eating… but it’s still a little overwhelming.”
“huh?”
As if Hyein had imagined something, her eyes turned to the left sky. She then slightly turned her head and blushed.
“ah! “That’s a compliment, right?”
“Why, ask that again.”
After tasting Korean food for the first time in a long time, I took a walk around Tongyeong. I missed the alleys, so I walked through the mural villages of Dongpirang and Seopirang.
I was able to feel a affection that I had not felt for a while from the elderly people I occasionally encountered.
Just as the sunset was setting over Tongyeong.
Returned to the hotel.
I washed away the salt from the sea breeze and sweat and came out. The moment I got out of the shower, Hyein suddenly grabbed my wrist.
“I’m going to do whatever I want today.”
