Damn the World, Ride a Submarine - Chapter 45

Episode 45 – Cheonghaejin
The busiest person at Shinheung Camp was Director Kim Wan-jun.
The TMSH base was in the final stages of construction. In particular, it seemed like a lot of attention was paid to creating a housing complex.
Even in the midst of his busy schedule, he seemed to be tending to his garden.
For some reason, I was surprised to see fresh lettuce served at the company dinner. It was said that it was grown in director Kim Wan-jun’s garden.
After bragging so much, I went to see his garden.
“Wow~ Director. This isn’t a garden, it’s almost a farm. “When will all this be done?”
“I took advantage of some bored OSS agents. ha ha ha”
At that moment, I thought I needed to grow this garden a little more.
“Director!”
“yes”
He continued talking while pointing to the border of our land around the vegetable garden.
“This is how it came to be. We are growing the farm all the way up to the land above.”
“It takes a lot of work to do that.”
“Let’s hire local people here to take care of the farm.”
“uh ···.”
“I buy it anyway and eat it, but I grow it myself and eat it. “I don’t think there will be much difference in cost.”
“Oh, that would be nice too. We can plant crops that are fresh and suitable for us. I need to plant some sweet potatoes right now. ha ha ha”
“I think mushrooms would be good too. “It’s constantly growing.”
“oh! “That would be nice too.”
It was also decided to build a wind pressure-type air greenhouse that does not require pillars even if the width is 30m.
In this way, a fairly large farm was built on the outskirts of the Shinheung Camp base.
One day when we were busy decorating Shinheung Camp, Chef Hyun Jeong-min came to visit.
“Captain.”
“Oh, Doctor Hyeon. welcome.”
“Just call me chef.” haha”
“haha. “What’s going on?”
“Captain. “I heard that they are supporting employees’ relocation.”
“Yes, that’s right.”
“So, I’m thinking of putting down roots here too.”
“Oh good.”
“however···.”
“why? “Is there something you’re hesitating about?”
“yes. I have a girlfriend. “Because they are both non-married…”
“okay. Um…what does he do?”
“That friend is also a doctor. “This is family medicine.”
“It went well.”
“?”
“If it’s okay with you, I’d like to hire you at our company. Of course, with the best treatment.”
“Ah… I didn’t mean that.”
“no. Even otherwise, there were plans to build a hospital in Sinheung Camp. We can start right away. “Family medicine is a better place to start.”
“I came to talk about vacation. It’s an unexpected gift. I think he will like it too.”
“Then, take a vacation while you’re at it. “There may be a long voyage soon, so please discuss it with your girlfriend.”
“thank you. “Captain”
…
Chef Hyun Jeong-min left for a vacation in Korea, and soon after, he received word from his girlfriend that she had accepted my offer.
Teacher Hyuna Lee decided to become a doctor affiliated with OSL. She moved to Tawita, where she took charge of the new camp’s medical clinic.
From housing complexes, farms, and hospitals.
Now, Shinheung Camp is not a base for a security company, but is taking on the appearance of a group residence where like-minded people live together, a pretty village where small happinesses are shared.
As the camp’s busy daily life continued, Colonel Kang In-su delivered news.
I flew to the Netherlands with my crew to take delivery of OSS ship number 1. There was a message that he would soon arrive at Sinheung Camp after crossing the ocean.
Now, apart from the submarine, we have a warship to patrol around Tawi-Tawi Island.
…
Not long after.
OSS-01, ship number 1, began to appear in the waters off Tawi-Tawi Sinheung Camp. It had the appearance of a fairly decent warship.
The entire OSS team gathered at the dock to watch ship number 1 enter port.
Although it was a patrol ship, it was a Holland-class oceangoing patrol ship with a magnificent appearance of 108m in length.
Everyone seemed excited to see the NH90 NFH helicopter on the aft deck.
– Wow~ It’s a helicopter!
– oh! Is Operation Helliborne now possible? haha
Pilot Bae Heung-deok, who boarded ship number 1 by tugboat, brought the ship to berth immediately and smoothly, like a car racer parking in a row.
While the ship was docked, I felt reassured when I saw the crew members lined up on board along with Capt. Kang In-soo.
They had endured a long journey of 20,000 km over almost two months. This is also my first time operating a ship.
I faced the tanned Colonel Kang In-su.
He slowly gave a polite salute. I also politely accepted his salute.
“Colonel!”
“Ship number 1, I am ordered to be assigned to Sinheung Camp. “I report entry into port.”
I approached and held Captain Kang In-su’s hand.
“Thank you for your hard work. “I’m glad you’re okay.”
“I’m just happy that we completed the mission without a hitch.”
“thank you.”
Naturally, his eyes turned to the submarine docked alongside ship No. 1.
“Is that the Lee Hoi-young ship?”
“yes. That’s right.”
Captain Kang In-su looked around once again at the Lee Hoe-young and Shinheung Camp docked at the dock and continued.
“CEO. “This place feels like Cheonghaejin.”
“ha ha ha.”
When I heard the word Cheonghaejin, I felt like Colonel Kang In-su saw right through me.
Cheonghaejin, he said, was the trading base and maritime base of Jang Bogo, the maritime king during the Unified Silla era.
At that time, Jang Bogo controlled the trade hegemony connecting China and Japan. He was a person who traded with Persia and Arabia, which were called Daesik at the time.
Although he was from Silla, he was a transnational being. He built a maritime kingdom encompassing China and Japan, centered on Cheonghaejin.
It would not be wrong to say that Shinheung Camp and TMSH are the modern version of Cheonghaejin. I don’t feel the need for trade now, but I don’t know in the future.
Tawi-Tawi was tacitly recognized as self-governing government by the autonomous government of Mindanao. It was to the extent that they depended on us for security in the southern part of the autonomous region.
Tawi-Tawi locals also seemed to regard the OSS as Tawi-Tawi’s defense force, following the expulsion of the MILF.
Shinheung Camp was already our transnational liberation zone.
…
A welcome ceremony, which also served as an orientation, was held for the crew of the first ship. The fun continued as everyone told their personal stories.
Team leader Park Il-lim was carrying the helmet and plate carrier of the Alpha Team that was hit during the ‘Thailand Dawn’ operation, and was realistically explaining the urgent situation at the time.
On one side, the crew of the Lee Hoi-young, who served as drone operators, were gathered and cheering.
As I approached, I saw that they were watching a video of the moment when the enemy’s high-speed boat collided with the drone.
Before we knew it, the red sunset began to set, and the fun and peaceful night at Shinheung Camp deepened.
…
I had a meeting with key executives of OSS.
The Eco Team was to board ship number 1 and take charge of security and security along the coast from Tawi-Tawi Island to Tihiktihik. It was decided to select and hire local workers for the shortage of manpower.
The number of OSS operations teams also had to be increased.
It was also necessary to supplement the power lost due to ship duty. Because they also needed a vacation.
Four operation teams were formed: Foxtrot (F), Golf (G), Kilo (K), and Oscar (O).
It is centered on Korean special forces reservists, but also accepts members from various foreign special forces to enable tactical exchange.
Additionally, Sierra (S) Team.
A deep-sea diving team was added, led by the reserve forces of the South Korean Navy’s Marine Rescue Squadron SSU (Sea Salvage Unit).
In preparation for this time, decompression facilities were prepared on board Lee Hoeyoung.
There are 9 operational teams, 1 deep-sea rescue team, and the Zulu (Z) team that acts as an operational support unit.
The 11 OSS teams would be accompanied by the ocean patrol ship No. 1, the logistics support ship No. 2, and the submarine Lee Hoe-young.
Training combined with play and entertainment continued.
The common training for both the OSS operations team and crew was drone operation.
In addition to various obstacle racing and drop-drop competitions, there was also formation maneuver training.
Programmed group maneuvers were possible, but only under prepared circumstances.
It was not easy for individual operators to fly in formation in an operation site where the situation changed every time.
So the method I came up with was a column flight following the lead aircraft.
Naturally, a doctrine similar to the lead bombing of bombers during World War II was created.
A test of a suicide drone modified by Warrant Officer Seo Ji-seok was also conducted.
The test of a suicide drone equipped with explosives reduced to one-tenth of the explosive power was very successful.
The direction and number of contact fuses could be adjusted depending on the tactical situation.
Needless to say, the accuracy was accurate, and it seemed like it would be useful in many ways since it could hit a precise location even at night.
Normally, the explosives and fuse were stored separately, and all they had to do was attach them to the drone in order right before operating it as a self-destruct drone.
He was also an explosives expert and prepared explosives for passage opening and anti-tank use. It was the same principle as an RPG warhead, with explosive power projected in one direction.
Seeing the potential, I ordered 500 additional Matrice 350 RTK drones to be secured.
Practical training for bombing and suicide bombing was necessary. For that, we headed to Tihiktihik Island, where a TMSH base is under construction.
We conducted training to actually drop 60mm mortar shells using two types of drones.
Fill two Revolver 860 drones with eight mortar shells. 16 rounds were dropped sequentially.
Even when dropped from high altitude, it showed high precision with an error range of 3m.
When flying at a low altitude, the shell fell exactly within 1m of the target. It was so accurate that it could not be compared to artillery fire conducted at a range.
The precision of bombing was not much different for the 350 RTK drone.
I thought it would be no exaggeration to say that it was asymmetrical firepower in small-scale special warfare.
A mortar shell falling within 1m of the target in complete darkness… And that too, towards multiple targets at the same time.
50 350 RTK drones and 10 Revolver 860 drones were deployed on ship number 1 and Lee Hoe-young, respectively.
In addition, an OSS-specific phonetic language to be used for plain text communication was determined.
Instead of simple radio phonics, we created phonics that can be easily remembered and communicated through various means.
