Damn the World, Ride a Submarine - Chapter 55

Episode 55 – Operation Fury
There were 24 hours left until D-day and H-hour.
The name of the operation was Fury.
The interior of the spacious 7,300-ton submarine looked incredibly complicated in preparation for the operation.
The operations team had no time to rest as they were conducting final equipment checks and road (map) training. Submarine crews were also busy operating drones.
In particular, they seemed to be having a hard time preparing the Revolver 860 drone, which weighs 42kg when loaded with 60mm mortar shells.
Transporting mortar shells through the narrow passageways of a submarine, from the armory to the drone projection room, was nerve-wracking.
Not only the OSS agents but also the crew members seemed nervous. But no one made a loud noise.
…
D-day has come.
The Lee Hoe-young scouts the deep sea using sonar and underwater drones. Very slowly it came up to periscope depth.
In order to send the OSS operations team, it had to surface completely. I checked the safety of the pitch-black night sea using a periscope.
Launch two 350 RTK drones using a drone projection device. The reconnaissance drone was equipped with a battery parallel connector to connect five batteries. As a result, it was possible to secure an endurance of more than 4 hours.
I was impressed by the foresight of Warrant Officer Seo Ji-seok, who created a battery parallel device in advance, taking into account the weight balance of the drone.
While reconnoitring the surroundings, Lee Hoi-young very slowly approached the 6km point of Severodvinsk. The purpose was to narrow the infiltration route and the drone’s operational support distance.
Finally, the Lee Hoe-young surfaced in the waters off Severodvinsk. It was a tense moment.
The moment I opened the submarine hatch and breathed in the North Sea air, a sense of liberation rather than fear came over me.
The weather was close to -20 degrees Celsius, but there was no wind so it was bearable. And strangely enough, it wasn’t cold.
The operations team and crew were moving in perfect order without saying a word.
The RIP boat was inflated using a boat deployment device and the keel plate was laid. And an electric outboard motor was installed.
I expected that it would further reduce the burden of paddling. This is to preserve the physical strength of the operation team. Of course, if you are close to the infiltration area, you will have to approach by paddling.
The reason why ship number 9 was able to have an electric outboard motor was thanks to the contribution of our director Lee Shin-young.
Although she did not anticipate this situation, she bought all the equipment from the water leisure and fishing section of a large discount store and sent it to box number 9.
Among them was an electric outboard motor with a whopping 5 horsepower.
Reconnaissance drones 0 and 1 began preliminary reconnaissance along the infiltration route. Next, reconnaissance drones 2, 3, and 4 were launched.
After completing all boat deployments. The OSS operations team was divided into four RIP boats.
Director Kim Jun-myeong decided to move with the O Bravo team. On board the boat, he looked at me and placed his right fist on his left chest.
I also nodded lightly, placing my right fist over my heart.
As the OSS operations team’s boat disappeared into the black darkness of the sea. The Lee Hoe-young submerged again at periscope depth.
Reconnaissance drones 0 and 1 scouted the infiltration point heading to the crew’s quarters and the route to the port where the ARK was anchored.
After confirming that there was nothing unusual, we flew into the sky where Ukrainian Security Service S Alpha and S Bravo teams were waiting.
Reconnaissance drones 2, 3, and 4 were moving forward while detecting hazards ahead of the operation team.
I wore a radio headset in the command and control room of the submarine.
The 17 operators who control the drone were arranged in a row from the command and control room to the auxiliary room and the captain’s office.
The eight members of the small group that will support drone projection are located in the Tron projection room and the weapons warehouse, respectively.
I spoke quietly to them.
“The safety of our operation team is guaranteed in your eyes and hands. “I believe in you.”
The crew responded with firm eyes and a simple bow.
Next, we started checking communication.
– S Alpha, S Alpha this is OSS 1/1, radio check, over
(S Alpha, this is the OSS command center, communication check is over – source means squad leader, commander, etc.)
– Cheek Cheek Cheek
The S Alpha team responded by pressing the PTT button twice. We also had SBU use our method.
Complete the communication check between the Ukrainian Security Service operations team and the OSS operations team. I looked at the screens of reconnaissance drones 0 and 1.
S Alpha Team was seen stationed on the outskirts of the guard post adjacent to our O Alpha Team’s infiltration route.
‘How long did we have to wait like that in the open air in this cold weather?’ The thought made me feel awe for a moment.
The S Bravo Team was also seen waiting to enter near the coastal patrol facility.
It was only 15 minutes before H-hour.
– OSS, OSS Hold position (Oss, stick to the current position)
– Cheek Cheek / Cheek Cheek
It’s time.
– S Alpha, S Alpha
– Cheek Cheek Cheek
– S bravo, S bravo
– Cheek Cheek Cheek
– Operation Fury Execute, Execute, Execute. (Execute Operation Fury.)
Before I knew it, I was holding my breath and watching the screen of the reconnaissance drone.
The screen of Drone 0 hovering above Team S Alpha showed them slowly approaching the coastal guard post.
As we approached right behind the guard post, a red and yellow thermal imaging screen began showing a figure lying face down on the cold ground and crawling.
For some reason, they just lay there. I had to resist the urge to ask questions over the radio.
Soon, a sentry was captured on screen, opening the guard post door and coming out. I just assumed he was going to the bathroom.
Two S Alpha team members were following behind him carefully. One of them bent down and came closer.
He grabbed the guard’s ankles from behind and snatched him back, and the guard fell forward like an old tree.
The screen then showed the remaining agent following behind attaching a wire to the sentry’s neck. The sentry’s struggling body soon became limp.
When another sentry who heard the sign of popularity came out of the guard post, another S Alpha agent tied a wire around his neck from behind, and at the same time, all remaining S Alpha agents entered the guard post.
Their silhouettes on the drone screen showed the scene of them killing the commander and all sentries with silenced pistols. I was finally able to let out the breath I had been holding, little by little.
I pressed the radio’s PTT button.
– S Alpha, S Alpha Roger
– tango down, all clear (kill the enemy, remove all danger)
The OSS operations team waiting on the boat was ordered to enter.
– O Alpha, O Alpha go, go, go
– Cheek Cheek Cheek
(Roger means that you knew, that you understood, but it can also be used to mean that you did a good job or that you did a good job.)
The S Bravo team illuminated by drone number 1 did not move. It seemed like no suitable entry opportunity could be found.
After some time, they were seen approaching the coastal patrol gate.
Surprisingly, one of the agents was seen on the thermal imaging screen knocking on the door.
When someone opened the door and came out, he was seen shooting himself in the head. It may have been a silenced pistol, but it looked so bold that it was reckless. The body was dragged out the door and the entire S Bravo team entered the building as if underwater.
The drone’s thermal imaging screen showed gunfire exploding from various parts of the building.
It was an unexpected situation, but I couldn’t sit still.
– O Bravo, Charlie go, go
– O bravo, O Charlie go, go
– Cheek Cheek / Cheek Cheek
The S Bravo team was seen going up to clean the entire three-story building, room by room, floor by floor. The intense gun muzzle light was shining on the drone screen.
I turned my head to scout drones 3 and 4.
OSS Bravo, Charlie Team, and Director Kim Jun-myeong, divided into three boats, were approaching the place where the ARK was anchored.
Drone No. 4 caught two sentries running close to where the boat could dock.
– O Bravo, Charlie 2 o’clock, 2 Enemy spotted
Director Kim Jun-myeong was seen making hand signals. It seemed like they were assigning targets.
Next, several operators on a boat were seen aiming VSSM silenced sniper rifles. The moment I took a breath, the two enemy sentries who were running fell to the concrete floor of the dock.
O Bravo and Charlie Team docked the boat and went up to the Sevmash Shipyard dock.
O Bravo Team held the VSSM rifle in a hip shooting position, made their bodies into a Z shape, and walked quickly towards our submarine ARK.
The sight was reminiscent of Israeli special forces running down the airport runway during Operation Entebbe. It was cool.
At that moment, Team Charlie was following the route toward the crew quarters, covering the rear of Team O Bravo in the same manner.
On the drone screen, I spotted three enemies running from somewhere across the street.
But before I could even press the PTT button on my radio, Team O Bravo was pulling the trigger.
– Phiyung, Phiyung, Phiyung, Phiyung, Phiyung
The three enemies’ legs collapsed and they fell sprawled on the concrete floor of the shipyard.
I called the OSS in the crew quarters by radio.
– This boss, this boss. Is communication possible?
– Chijijik.
– Available to receive, sticking to current location, or more.
– O Alpha Team is heading there. Is it possible to secure transportation?
– Securing a commuter bus. more.
– O Join Alpha Team and all move to ARK.
– Received.
I saw the screen of drone number 2, which was providing reconnaissance support.
Team O Alpha passed the coastal post that SBU had neutralized and was conducting a search and reconnaissance around the area around our crew’s quarters.
They were scattered, hiding from the road in front of the accommodation, and appeared to be on high alert. And then the radio came in.
– this is O Alpha 1/1, Arrived at AO, Perimeter Security, Stand by, over. (This is O Alpha Team Leader, arrived at the operational area, secured the surrounding perimeter, is on standby, above) – AO: Area of Operations
– Sergeant Lee, meet with our alpha team immediately after receiving the radio signal. more
– Cheek Cheek Cheek
Boss Lee Cheol-gi was seen coming out of the dormitory. I was seen meeting with the O Alpha team leader. It was Sergeant Park Il-lim. Following this boss’s guidance, the two moved somewhere. The scout drone was on alert as they chased them.
Soon, the two people driving the bus parked in front of the hotel, and our staff and crew who were waiting were riding the bus.
It was then.
– Ta-da-da-dan! Ride!
They were shooting at a bus from somewhere. At that moment, Team Leader Park Il-lim seemed to be saying something to Boss Lee Cheol-gi.
The bus departed. The OSS alpha team maintained its position.
