Franchise God Episode 001
Chapter 1 I am the heir? (1)
“Son, in fact this father is a god from another universe.”
On my twentieth birthday, my father said this earnestly.
Ha Soo-young reacted indifferently.
“Really? Why did you come to this wretched earth to play?”
“I was just taking a walk. There was no special reason. You went to the back mountain to collect insects, and then you saw a stream and you just soaked your feet in it for a bit. Do you need a reason?”
“Oh, you came by to soak your feet for a bit while you were passing by to do some business?”
“Yes, and that stream is you.”
“Yes, yes. While I was dipping my feet in the water for a bit, the kid I picked up on the street turned twenty years old. Time really flies, doesn’t it?”
“You found me on the street? Although I am your adoptive father, I raised you with as much love as if I were your own son.”
“The person who raised me with love said to me on my tenth birthday, ‘I actually picked you up on the street and raised you, I’m not your biological father, I’ll have to separate from you someday.’ If it were other children, I probably would’ve cried a lot at that time.”
“I couldn’t help it. I didn’t have much time left, and I had to send you out into the harsh world when you were young. I thought I had to tell you the secret of your birth early and help you stand up quickly.”
“What is the secret of my birth? I’m a little excited about that.”
“Your bloodline isn’t all that great. Your biological father wasn’t a tycoon, and your mother wasn’t a beautiful actress. She just lived an ordinary life.”
“Is that all there is to the secret of birth?”
“But isn’t it true that the secret of birth is that the god who rules over the universe adopted you as his son?”
“The god who rules the universe? My father?”
“Okay. Oh, if you want, I’ll let you meet your biological parents. But you don’t want to do that, do you?”
Ha Soo-young didn’t even enjoy playing the janggu. It must have been the first or second time that her father had done something like this.
He was usually a sincere and serious father, but every now and then, like today, he would say strange and absurd things.
‘You’re not lying about finding me on the street, are you? He’s actually my son, but you’re just playing a prank on him…’
If he were a father, he would be more than capable of doing that.
Actually, my father was a really good person.
Except for the habit of seriously telling completely nonsensical and absurd stories as if they were true.
He was handsome, young, well-read, and honest. He had a fair amount of money and a fair amount of land, although it was farmland.
It is common for unmarried female teachers to dote on their children to earn points from their fathers.
He was a father who truly had nothing to lack, except that he occasionally said strange things as if he had been possessed by something.
“What a pity. I have no more time. I must leave Earth now.”
“If I were a ‘pretty daughter’ with slim and white skin, the story would have been different, right?”
“Even if I did, I would have only stayed for another month or so. This is, um… let’s say, this is this father’s business. Business, do you understand?”
“Before you go, leave behind a generous legacy.”
“Oh, I thought you’d cry and cling to me, but I was worried that you’d become weak-hearted…….”
“Are you sad that it’s not like that?”
“No, I’m proud. That I raised you to be so strong. I can leave with peace of mind.”
Ha Soo-young suddenly felt strange.
Today, my father’s nonsense went on for too long. And his expression was slightly different than usual.
For just a moment, I really felt uneasy as if my father would suddenly disappear somewhere…
“I’ve planted a legacy in your backyard for you. That one thing will make a huge difference in your life.”
“Can I finally become a building owner in Cheongdam-dong?”
“It’s a little better than that. This is my standard, and yours may be different.”
“I guess that’s because you’re the one who says that the value of the 30 billion won building in Cheongdam-dong and the sun are not that different.”
“Anyway, I’ve planted it nicely in the backyard, so make good use of it when I’m gone.”
My father added with a smiling face.
“I hope we can meet again.”
“…Are you really going?”
“Really? Then, are there things that turn out to be fake?”
At first I thought it was a joke.
But when I woke up the next day, my father was nowhere to be seen at home.
That wasn’t all. All traces of my father were gone. Clothes, shoes, dishes, furniture, even the titles with limited edition DLC.
There was only a single sheet of A4 paper on the table.
[I’m taking all my stuff with me on purpose. If I leave it there, you might get a few days’ worth of false hopes thinking I’m just going on a short trip. The inheritance I planted yesterday has grown well.]
I was dumbfounded for a moment. Was my father really gone?
‘He often talks nonsense, but he never does anything foolish.’
He says a lot of nonsense that seems like a joke, but he has never done anything that seems like a joke.
He’s not the type of person to surprise people by packing up all his stuff and disappearing overnight.
It was strange.
There were no tears at all. I wasn’t even sad.
It feels as if my mind has become empty.
Was I this cold-blooded?
Or maybe, deep down, he was preparing himself for the possibility that his father’s nonsense might actually come true one day?
I got up from my seat, somewhat staggering.
What on earth is the legacy that my father planted? I need to find out about that.
Ha Su-yeong, who came out into the backyard, stopped dead in her tracks.
“oh my god.”
In the backyard, where there should have been only a flat lawn, there was a huge maple tree that I had never seen before growing.
I’ve never heard of a tree growing like that overnight. Is it possible to transplant such a large tree overnight?
“Father, were you really God?”
