Chapter 3: Is this the network you need? (7)
After finishing the call, Kim Hyo-san was absentmindedly holding his smartphone.
Jeon Seong-ryeol led the conversation expertly. He showed no signs of being disappointed or proud of having won.
I just subtly emphasized that the situation had to turn out this way.
-A good opportunity came to us from Baekdu Hotel, so we had to accept it.
– Actually, we didn’t have a formal supply contract with Seohae Hotel, so we were hesitant in many ways. We repeatedly asked, but the material purchasing department couldn’t easily change the line. Of course, I understand.
– Songi delivery? We don’t have enough to put in Baekdu Hotel right now, hehe.
He didn’t hit himself in the back of the head.
It’s just that the situation itself was unavoidable.
Jeon Seong-ryeol clearly appealed to that point, and Kim Hyo-san could not refute it.
All he did was appeal to recognition, that was it.
– I have a very important reservation. Can you supply me with even just 20kg? He is a very important regular customer to our restaurant.
-I can’t guarantee it, but I’ll try my best.
Kim Hyo-san muttered weakly.
“Damn… the materials purchasing manager ruined everything.”
It’s not like I didn’t have any guilt at all.
Should I have taken the initiative and persuaded the head of the purchasing department? Or should I have informed the general manager of the situation and asked for mediation?
As long as I could supply the mushrooms, I would be okay, and the thought that things outside the hall were not my job led to painful results.
Two days passed.
Those two days without any contact from Jeon Seong-ryeol were truly hellish for Kim Hyo-san.
I wanted to call Jeon Seong-ryeol and urge him to hurry up, but I knew it would have the opposite effect, so I waited.
During that time, I got into a huge fight with the head of the materials purchasing department, even grabbing him by the collar.
Thanks to that, even the assistant manager became aware of this situation.
“The whole mushroom delivery line was blown up because of you! Do you know how much our VIP customers love mushroom dishes?”
“I can easily get you that special songi in just a few months!”
“That makes sense! It’s a huge advantage to be able to get such fresh mushrooms in the off-season!”
“Come on, both of you stop. What are you doing?”
The assistant manager had a hard time stopping the two who were fighting, even grabbing each other by the collar like children.
Kim Hyo-san held on to his last bit of patience.
‘The Songi company went bankrupt because of the money you took from the supplier!’
Because I never said that in front of the manager.
If you bring that up, you’re literally crossing the line. Everything will be ruined. We should open an ethics disciplinary committee.
The assistant manager later called Kim Hyo-san in separately and asked him.
“I know that President Makemiya enjoys eating matsutake mushrooms, but is the situation that serious?”
“You’re not just a fan of pine mushrooms, you’re a pine mushroom lover. You’re even happier because you can eat premium pine mushroom dishes outside of the season. If you knew that pine mushrooms were supplied to Baekdu Hotel, you might change your regular hotel.”
“Well, that’s difficult.”
The assistant manager was in a very awkward position.
President Makemiya is not just a wealthy VIP.
In fact, the sales he brings in from his Korean restaurant are nothing special.
They make tens of millions of won in sales a month and give out a similar amount of tips, but the most important thing is the various events that President Makemiya hosts.
He frequently rents out the hotel’s grand ballroom for major events while doing business. He also uses the hotel’s buffet service at least once a month.
There are quite a few wealthy people who have become hotel customers thanks to President Makemiya’s connections.
They also spend a lot of money at hotels, hosting events and catering buffets.
If President Makemiya moves to Baekdu Hotel, all of his connections will be lost.
When he made a reservation to use a local branch of the Seohae Hotel, not the main branch in Seoul, Kim Hyo-san personally went on a business trip to that branch.
While the assistant manager was sighing, Kim Hyo-san checked the text message on his smartphone and jumped for joy.
“Oh yeah! That’s great! Seongryul Distribution said they’ll be delivering 10kg of mushrooms today!”
“Really? I feel relieved for now.”
“Deputy Manager, but we can’t let our guard down like this. We also need to quickly sign a formal supply contract with Seongryeol Distribution.”
“But what about Hanshin Distribution? They’ve been doing business with us for over ten years. How can they just cut it off overnight just to receive a few Songis?”
“You just want to get a songi? President Makemiya is at the Baekdu Hotel……”
“Okay, okay. I’ll talk to the general manager first, so you stop fighting with this team leader.”
Kim Hyo-san waited with all his heart for the Seongryeol Distribution truck to come in, and when he heard that the truck had arrived, he went down to greet it in person.
“I’m sorry. This is all I have left. I tried my best to match the 20kg you need, but it’s not in season so it’s hard to get.”
“No, thank you very much for this.”
Although it was not a satisfactory amount, Kim Hyo-san felt hopeful that they had delivered the quantity in three days.
But that hope was shattered the moment he returned alone.
“Senior, my friend told me that an additional 100kg of mushrooms arrived at Baekdu Hotel today. They arrived an hour ago.”
“this…!”
Kim Hyo-san barely managed to prevent himself from falling by grabbing the back of his neck.
“10kg? Then wouldn’t the Seohae Hotel think that I’m neglecting them?”
“That’s why I gave you only 10kg on purpose. The original promise was 20kg.”
Jeon Seong-ryeol said leisurely.
“You have to get it right in the beginning. If you hunker down too much from the beginning, you’ll get tired later.”
“I thought you had already been bowing down enough before…….”
“That was before the Baekdu Hotel breach. It’s not as good as the Seohae Hotel, but the Baekdu Hotel is pretty good too. In fact, since he already heard about the Seohae Hotel, he was more proactive toward me.”
“Even though it’s not the season, it’s funny how they’re having a war of nerves between two luxury hotels over a single mushroom.”
“What was that? It’s said that a Japanese real estate tycoon who goes crazy over Songi is a regular at the Seohae Hotel. Well, Japanese businessmen are really crazy about Songi.”
“Then what are you going to do about the Seohae Hotel?”
“Looking at what we’re going to do in the future. We’ll have to break through there too, but we don’t want to go out in a humble manner like before. There’s the Baekdu Hotel behind us, right?”
“Sir, I actually had something in mind as well.”
“What?”
Jeon Seong-ryeol asked with eyes full of anticipation, and Ha Su-yeong continued speaking nonchalantly.
“How about selling some of the mushrooms to Japan? In an auction format. I think I could make some money.”
“……In Japan?”
Jeon Seong-ryeol paused for a moment.
He only dealt with domestic distribution, and was as far from the concept of export as Andromeda. First of all, the word itself was unfamiliar.
“It would be a waste to only release it to the domestic market. It wouldn’t matter if the quantity was small, but now we can produce 500kg per month, and if we export it to Japan in an auction format during this season, we’ll definitely make some money.”
It is clear that they will make profits that are incomparable to those made through domestic distribution.
But Jeon Seong-ryeol couldn’t shake off the feeling of unease.
‘Exporting to Japan? Is there a place for me there? This guy, is he trying to do it all by himself? … .’
“I know you don’t have any experience exporting, but I think it would be a good experience to try it. No matter how I think about it, it’s a waste to only consume it domestically.”
