How To Be Misunderstood as a Villain in a Zombie Apocalypse - Chapter 191
Chapter 21. The Art of Deceiving Each Other (3)
* * * * *
With her gloved hands, she opened the cupboard and took out the yeast and flour. Camilla found a can of canned food on the shelf next to her and wrapped it in her clothes. That way, if the cans hit each other, there would be less noise.
Whether Virginia is threatening or not, we are doing what we have to do. We have to get as many supplies as possible before winter comes, and we have to get away from the battlefield to a safe place as possible. That’s why we have to move quickly today as well.
“It’s all filled up. Let’s go.”
I packed my bag and walked down the stairs. The stairs were no problem. The problem was the entrance. Three zombies appeared from nowhere and were loitering around nearby.
“Kreuk. Kick.”
But they didn’t rush at us. Instead, they stood still and sniffed like dogs. Then they sniffed each other. It seemed as if they wanted to know if we were ‘the same kind’ as them or not.
All three men looked at Camilla. Camilla silently aimed her silenced Lock-17 pistol. But before she could fire, and before the zombies could rush in.
“town?”
I hugged Camilla from behind and placed my lips on her cheek and neck.
“It may be uncomfortable, but bear with it.”
“Uh, yeah.”
I wet my lips and kissed her skin again. Camilla groaned, turning her body slightly. Only then did the zombies lose interest in me and Camilla, and they shook their heads and retreated to the other side. Camilla aimed her pistol at the back of their heads, but eventually she lowered her arms, saying, “Whew.”
“It was a bit dangerous.”
Camilla took a gulp from her water bottle. The water ran down her chin, down her neck, and soaked the front of her shirt. Her moist skin, bathed in sunlight, gleamed.
“I know.”
That’s why my reply was late. Camilla smiled at me. But soon, she looked at the zombies leaving as if it was quite complicated.
Since that day, ‘my’ Cro virus has spread among the zombies in the central district.
The good thing was that I could save on spray. It took quite a while to collect my fluids, and I was extremely tired and lethargic after the process was over. That was also why Cassandra was trying so hard to be efficient.
But now, it’s not necessary to spray it. The zombies easily noticed my presence ‘by smell’. Thanks to that, even the beast-type zombies recognize me to some extent. Of course, they recognize me, but since their wildness remains, I didn’t provoke them unnecessarily.
The problem was when I was traveling with Camilla, Leticia, and Cassandra.
Camilla and Leticia are infected too, but they don’t emit pheromones as much as I do. In a slightly dangerous situation like now, I should mark them myself. Spraying them would be the most reliable, but that would be a waste.
“But why aren’t Camilla and I hanging out like those fanatics? They were hypnotized and desperate to sleep with Johan.”
Leticia asked Cassandra that question a few days ago.
“Well, we have some degree of immunity. We were together when Johan’s Cro Virus was weak, so we are not greatly affected. However, we are not exactly the same, so we should be careful because it can be a bit dangerous when standing in front of zombies.”
“It’s not so bad, as long as you stay sane,” Leticia commented, and Camilla agreed.
“I would feel bad if my emotions and decision-making were swayed by something like that.”
While we were talking like that, Cassandra quietly said something.
“For your information, Cassandra is not. She is not infected with Johan’s Cro Virus. Of course, even if you are a carrier of Johan’s Cro Virus, you are still not immune to attacks, but Cassandra is more likely to be attacked.”
“Well, you said it was because of my constitution?”
I knew roughly how she became like that, so I talked around it. But as I listened, I became curious. Of course, it was a question I couldn’t ask in front of other women, so I asked her when we were alone.
“Excuse me, Cassandra. This might be a rude question, but if it makes you feel bad, you don’t have to answer. Is that okay?”
“I’ll listen and decide, John.”
“That, that ‘thing’ you received. If you apply that and distribute it to the public, wouldn’t more people be able to resist zombification?”
Thankfully, Cassandra didn’t laugh or get angry. She just blankly covered her nose and turned her head away.
“… Excuse me, could you step away from me? I smell something.”
I clearly washed it, but it still smelled. Are you talking about bad breath? I felt embarrassed and my heart ached, so I backed off as she said.
Only then did Cassandra answer, “That procedure is customized and extremely difficult, so it’s impossible to make it available to the general public right now.” She also said that only a handful of people had received the procedure, and that some had failed.
“Correction. It would be more correct to call it a side effect rather than a failure. The side effect cases are all different, so it’s impossible to make a pattern. However, it’s true that those people have a considerable amount of immunity to the Cro Virus. Of course, if they get bitten, it would be a different story.”
Cassandra’s face turned red for some reason and her breathing seemed to have gotten faster. Seeing those large breasts shaking made her breathing faster too.
“Oh, um. Okay. Get some rest. And I’ll wash up and go.”
It was said half-jokingly, but Cassandra jumped as if her foot had been pricked by a pin.
“Oh, no, um, Cassandra didn’t mean it like that. It’s just, um, Cassandra…”
But in the end, he disappeared without finishing his sentence. His face turned bright red. Did he need to go to the bathroom? Anyway, it was definitely a good thing that he could be ‘equal’ with these people.
“It’s Yohanni!”
If I had been like those crazy guys, I wouldn’t have lived long.
“Krrrrrr!”
“Boom! Boom!”
“Bless me! Grant me the blessing of immortality!”
A crazy guy was running towards me naked, holding only a pistol.
“Let’s hurry up and get in the car and run away.”
“huh!”
I’m glad I got along with Camilla. Zombies swarmed behind him. I looked in the rearview mirror. Naked men with rifles emerged from the rubble of the collapsed building.
No. I’m still wearing a backpack, so I’m not completely naked. Anyway, those guys were shooting here and there to save my comrade, so I don’t think anyone will die.
“I’ll beat you at roundabout 30. Get ready. Let’s blow another levee.”
“huh.”
Even if the zombies are like that, I don’t understand why those crazy fanatics keep coming to the central area. After discussing it, we came to the conclusion that those guys ‘have nothing better to do’, and therefore ‘we have to keep them busy’.
Luckily, we had a lot of good stuff to keep those s*x-crazed fanatics busy, like a lot of C4 and dynamite. Camilla called from the passenger seat.
“Hey, Cassandra. Hey, can you sound the sirens for 63AC and 63AD? We’re going to lure some zombies and blow up another levee.”
A moment later, the disaster warning siren rang. – Emergency! Emergency! Air raid! Air raid! The zombies in front of us will now sprint to the left block. Then, we will run through the empty road in the gap, activate the time bomb we have placed on the embankment in advance, and leisurely disappear.
“This embankment is connected to the northern district, so if it gets breached, the gangsters will be pretty busy. Is that okay?”
Camilla looked at me with questioning eyes. I nodded.
“That’s okay for the gang.”
“really?”
“They are bad guys.”
“Yeah. They’re bad guys.”
Camilla smiled and pulled out her phone. Beep beep beep, beep beep beep. As she pressed the call button, there was a loud explosion. The impact was so loud that the ground shook and the pillars of the building next door cracked.
Now that one of the northern levees has collapsed, the central district zombies will advance northward. They will survive by biting and eating any zombies that stand in their way, just as they have done so far, and they will spread my Cro Virus again.
If there were more safe paths to walk on, that would be a good thing.
“I feel relieved. I feel like all my stress has gone away.”
Camilla had a slightly dangerous expression on her face. She was so happy to see the explosion.
“Did it pile up a lot?”
“huh.”
“Why? In what way?”
“… Just. Various things.”
“Just tell me one thing.”
Instead of answering, Camilla untied her hair and opened the car window. Her long, vibrant red hair flowed out. After a while, Camilla spoke.
“The girl I really want to shoot is in the capital, but I don’t know what to do here.”
“Virginia?”
“… Yeah. But, I also thought about this.”
“What do you think?”
Camilla rolled down the window. She seemed to be gathering her thoughts as she gathered her hair into a ponytail. She drove slowly, along a quiet road that was not likely to attract the attention of the zombies.
“I want to kill that woman.”
“huh.”
“But what’s the point of killing them?”
“huh?”
It was dangerous while driving, but I had no choice but to look at Camilla. Camilla was looking at me. She looked very lonely for some reason.
“The world I knew is already ruined, and the country has collapsed. Even if I blow up that one woman, it doesn’t seem like they’ll come back. Yohan. I don’t know what to do now.”
It would be easy to say, “I have to survive.” It was an easy answer, and therefore a story without much emotion. It felt like such words were just a waste of time and a stain. So I said nothing. Instead, I squeezed her hand with my right hand. Camilla’s roughened hand curled inside me.
If the world really falls apart, what will we do to survive then?
I don’t know. Usually, when life becomes stable and I feel like I have nothing left to do, I ‘let go’ of that save file. After finishing my stable life, I think ‘my avatar will live happily ever after’ and then start a new game that is dangerous and full of things to do.
But I’m in a place where I can’t save or load, and I can only log out. I don’t even know about that.
“John.”
“Yeah, Camilla.”
“Can you hug me?”
“huh.”
