I Got the Villain’s Attention Episode 116 – #116.
After finishing my conversation with Count Maynard, I left the drawing room.
It was still early, but I was planning to go to my room early and rest because I had so much to do.
“Claire.”
If Alex hadn’t come looking for me, I would have gone straight to the bedroom.
I turned around to check on Alex.
He was looking down at me with very affectionate eyes.
“Do you have a moment?”
“Yes. Time is what overflows.”
As I shrugged my shoulders as if it were obvious, Alex smiled and held out his hand to me. I took his hand and began walking slowly down the hallway.
Normally, we would have small talk while walking, but today, strangely, Alex didn’t say anything. So I didn’t talk to Alex either.
But this time didn’t feel uncomfortable.
I walked slowly through the hallway and finally arrived at the central garden. Even though only a few days had passed, the cold had eased.
“I think you and Count Maynard are on good terms.”
“Yes. The Count and the Madame both took great care of me.”
They were truly like family to me.
Even so, I was surprised when he readily said he would adopt me.
“So, Claire, you also came with me because you wanted to protect the Count and Countess?”
“yes.”
There was no reason to hide it any longer. He must have guessed it when he presented the contract.
“Are you sad?”
I asked, glancing at Alex’s expression.
I was sorry that I had only misunderstood him as a bad person.
Alex looked down at me quietly and then laughed softly.
I couldn’t figure out what his laughter meant, so I just blinked and he opened his mouth.
“No, it was natural to be on guard. Just like I was.”
Alex paused for a moment, then raised his head and looked out into the garden.
“At first, Claire, I wondered why you were being so kind to me. I even thought you were a spy. It was the first time I’d been treated kindly for no reason.”
“… … .”
“Claire, you must have felt the same way. Unlike back then when you didn’t know anything, you already knew that I was Alexander Berzel. And that was especially true when you were sent to the warehouse that way. I was actually a bit surprised when you still had the courage to follow me.”
Alex said it as if it was funny, but I still get goosebumps when I think about that moment.
It was a shock I had never felt before, having grown up in the peaceful Earl of Maynard’s household.
It’s true that it didn’t feel realistic to me that Alex might kill me if things went according to plan.
Because at that time, it felt like something from another world to me.
It seemed like Alex was even scarier.
“I don’t think Alex knows how scared I was back then.”
“know.”
“……i know?”
My eyes widened at the unexpected sound.
Alex was still staring straight ahead.
“Because it wasn’t something I was familiar with from the beginning.”
“Really?”
I raised my voice without realizing it because of the unbelievable fact. Only then did Alex nod and snicker.
“Yes. It’s just that I’ve gotten used to it and become a bit more numb.”
After finishing speaking, Alex turned around and looked at me.
When I looked into his eyes, I saw a loneliness hidden there that was so deep it made my heart ache.
It seemed like he had been through too much when he was young, trying to protect the legacy his parents had left behind, and as he grew up, because of Duke Franz’s schemes.
How much more miserable life would Alex have had to endure if Duke Franz’s affairs had not come to a smooth conclusion?
I carefully took Alex’s hand. Alex’s eyes followed my hand and then quickly turned back to mine. I met his eyes and smiled deliberately.
“Thank you for your hard work.”
“… … .”
As he finished speaking, he clasped his hands together.
That was when.
A cold drop of water fell on my cheek. I raised my head and looked up at the sky. I could see gray dark clouds across the black night sky.
“I think it’s going to rain.”
At my words, Alex raised his head and looked up at the sky.
“Shall we go back?”
Because we went deep into the central garden, the way back was a bit long.
Even if I go back like this, I will be caught in the pouring rain without being able to move.
Alex looked around and shook his head.
“The greenhouse is closer here. I think it would be better to go there and avoid the rain.”
“Then let’s do that.”
The raindrops that had started to fall one or two at a time began to increase in quantity.
Alex started running towards the greenhouse with his hand clasped in mine. I followed him and ran towards the greenhouse.
“Wow! It’s really raining hard.”
I took off my rain-soaked shawl, draped it over a chair, and straightened my messy hair.
It was true that the greenhouse was close, but it still couldn’t completely avoid the rain.
Alex also took off his wet coat and ran his hands through his wet hair.
“Sit down and rest. Your legs will hurt if you stand.”
First, I sat down on the chair and then I patted the seat next to me with my hand and spoke. Alex looked at me and sat down in the seat I pointed to.
“I think it’s going to rain.”
“I wish it would pass quickly.”
I could see the rain pouring down heavily through the greenhouse glass.
The only good thing was that the greenhouse was kept warm by magic.
“I guess it’s almost spring. It’s raining instead of snowing.”
“I guess so. This winter has been particularly hectic.”
I agree with Alex. This winter has been a very hectic one with a lot going on with Duke Franz.
“But doesn’t this remind you of the old days?”
Suddenly, I tried to change the subject.
“When you’re in the warehouse?”
“Yes. It rained like this back then too. The surrounding environment was much worse though.”
Alex laughed silently, perhaps recalling the past.
“I had a really hard time. I had to sneak food and clothes. Because of that, I even got the misunderstanding that I was meeting Dale secretly for no reason.”
“Dale?”
At that moment of grumbling, Alex frowned as if he was displeased.
“Why, that servant that Miss Veronica brought with her. He’s a friend of mine who grew up with me. If it weren’t for him, Alex would have been wearing wet clothes, or completely naked. The clothes Alex is wearing are his friend’s clothes.”
“… … .”
For some reason, Alex’s words became quieter.
“Alex?”
When I called him out in curiosity, Alex looked at me earnestly.
“Are you close with that guy named Dale?”
“Well, that’s what it is. You said we were friends since we were little, right?”
Alex narrowed his eyes at my answer.
It was only after seeing those eyes that Alex realized that he was being jealous of something unnecessary.
“Oh, no! He’s just a friend.”
But Alex didn’t lighten his expression easily.
“Even if we’re on good terms, I hope you don’t bring up other men in front of me.”
“Are you really jealous?”
“okay.”
I just couldn’t understand that Alex.
But isn’t it a bit odd to compare Dale to Alex?
Even if the opponent wasn’t Dale, it was still difficult to understand.
Alex was handsome, had a nice body, seemed blunt but was also kind, and seemed sly but also very attentive to me.
How can I compare that person who looks only at me and tells me that he loves me with someone else?
As I continued my thoughts, Alex continued.
“I wish you would never leave me. I wish you would always stay by my side.”
Alex’s voice was sweet and sweet.
“Claire.”
Alex’s hand touched my cheek. I turned my head to look up at Alex, guided by his hand.
“Will you continue to stay by my side like this?”
I nodded reflexively at the voice that touched my heart.
“I will do that. I will continue to stay by Alex’s side.”
I saw Alex’s gaze slowly scanning my face.
Eyes, nose, mouth, and eyes again.
The moment I was completely absorbed in those affectionate blue eyes, Alex slowly closed his eyes.
I closed my eyes as I watched his face getting closer and closer.
The sweet scent of roses always came closer to me from Alex. And something soft and smooth touched my lips.
Feeling my heart pounding, I lifted my hand and placed it on top of Alex’s hand cupping my cheek.
His hands were warm. They were a completely different temperature from my own, which were chilled by the cold.
I carefully wrapped my hand around his, not wanting to lose that warmth.
And soon after, Alex pulled away from me. The feel of my lips against his and the scent of his body lingered.
I slowly opened my eyes and checked on Alex.
Alex’s face was clearly visible due to the light.
Alex looked at me with narrowed eyes and smiled.
“Then won’t you marry me?”
