I Thought It Was a Fairy Tale but the Genre Is Strange - Chapter 57
Chapter 56 – Hansel and Gretel (10)
*Thud.* A pale arm rolled to my side; one of the arms that had sprouted from Gretel’s back. Unlike before, Alice wasn’t letting out a chilling laugh as she inflicted violence, but was pulling off Gretel’s back arms with a blank face, as if it was nothing.
“Kkyaaak! It hurts, it hurts!!!”
Gretel was crawling on the floor and wailing. Alice looked down at her with cold eyes. It was the most overwhelmingly frightening appearance of Alice that I had ever seen. I swallowed hard at the sight.
Blood splatters everywhere, and Gretel’s desperate scream echoes through the gingerbread house.
“Ughhh!”
Gretel bit her lower lip until it bled, enduring the pain, but she couldn’t hold back the groans that escaped. She frantically deployed defensive barriers, struggling to break free from Alice, but they were easily shattered by Alice’s relentless barrage.
“What kind of nerve do you have? Showing off such pathetic illusions when you’re this weak?”
Alice ripped off all the disgusting arms attached to Gretel’s back, then grabbed Gretel by the head and began slamming it into the floor.
Thud thud! Thud!!
With each time Gretel’s face hit the floor and was pulled up, it became increasingly mangled. Teeth were knocked out, her nose bone crushed, her appearance steadily blurring with blood. Gretel’s shoulders trembled. She was petrified.
Petrified of Alice.
It’s a new realization, but Alice is strong. Really strong. From the moment they met, she had been the apex predator. She had said she was trapped here for over twenty years, without aging. Meaning, the Queen of Hearts she killed must have wanted to get rid of Alice since the beginning, and Alice must have been constantly massacring the forces trying to eliminate her.
Not only did she have the power to mercilessly slaughter an entire nation’s army, but she also killed the Queen after meeting me.
Aside from Rapunzel, her power is undoubtedly the strongest.
It’s only now that I realize it. Rapunzel was truly strong, and showed me more restraint than I could have imagined.
“Ugh, ugh, I feel so dizzy…”

Just then, Adel woke up beside me. He struggled, holding his head in disorientation, then jumped in shock.
“U, uh! Wh-what! What the hell is going on here!”
Adel was horrified by the gruesome scene of violence unfolding before his eyes. Well, it was understandable, considering just moments ago he was about to be roasted and eaten, and now Gretel was dying.
“Well, my companion is awake, and she’s beating the crap out of Gretel.”
“Holy crap, your companion is incredibly strong! That’s amazing! Truly… truly impressive!”
Adel’s eyes sparkled as he spoke. It was kind of like the look of a child who had found a toy they really loved.
“Hahaha! Now all I have to do is comfortably watch that young lady take care of the witch!”
“……That’s right.”
Yeah. There’s nothing left for me to do. Alice already neutralized Gretel. She’ll finish her off completely soon enough. But why?
Why do I feel so uneasy?
Everything’s clearly going smoothly. I don’t have to do anything, just watch, so why does my chest feel so tight?
An inexplicable frustration surged, making me want to claw at my own chest.
“Uaaahhh!!!!”
Then, a tremendous scream from Gretel, so loud it felt like my eardrums would burst, shook the house. Along with it, a sudden shockwave swept through the whole gingerbread house and we went flying backwards, flat on our backs.
Ugh, what? What the hell just happened?
I scrambled to my feet and saw Gretel, breathing raggedly, having somehow escaped Alice. Where’s Alice?
I turned to look around but couldn’t see her anywhere.
Just as I thought something was off, crumbs of gingerbread suddenly showered down from above and something landed with a *thump*. Alice, who’d dropped from the ceiling, looked extremely displeased, her face contorted.
“How annoying, messing around with cheap tricks. Nothing will change, anyway.”
Gretel, covered in blood and with half her teeth missing, glared at us, panting.
“You damned prey, how dare you inflict such humiliation on me!”
Alice ignored her and took a step forward. Gretel flinched and backed away, terrified, at the slightest movement.
The fear of violence, already etched into her body, was impossible to shake off.
“You’re making a fuss about getting hit a little. I’ll crush all the bones in your body and kill you. In the most painful way possible. If you pass out, I’ll wake you up and start all over. I wonder how long you can last before you die? Curious, aren’t you?”
To say such brutal things so casually. Just listening to it makes my skin crawl.
“Ha! S-Shut up! Do, do you think this is the end for me?! Don’t make me laugh! You’re clearly deluding yourself if you think you can overcome my magic with your brute strength!”
*Pop*. The sound of a cork being pulled out. What the hell, when did Gretel get a glass bottle in her hand? Inside the clear bottle she was holding, a mysterious purple liquid swirled.
“I’ll just make my body stronger than yours, you b*tch!”
Gretel downed the potion in one go, cool as you like. It gave me a bad feeling, even if I didn’t know what it was. But Alice didn’t pay it any mind and charged at her, throwing a punch.
Just before Alice’s fist could smash Gretel’s face in, it stopped, unable to move forward. A monstrous hand, furry and with sharp claws, was gripping Alice’s arm.
“Heh? What’s this? Trying to look cute with an animal transformation, hoping for some sympathy?”
Cute animal? I felt my mouth go dry as I stared at the monster before me. It was huge, its head hitting the ceiling. The monster had the head of an owl, a bear’s body with bulging muscles, and a huge mouth on its belly. It was a truly horrific sight.
“Kee-hee! I, I never thought the day would come to use this! Yes, let’s destroy everything here and start over! I’ll tear apart you b*stards who ruined my Hansel and my world, tearing you to pieces for the rest of your lives!!!”
*Thwack!* Gretel swung her arm, and Alice’s body went flying, slamming into the wall like a baseball hit by a bat.
“Alice!”
Gretel didn’t waste the opportunity. She immediately launched her massive body towards Alice. Clouds of dust and bits of cookie flew through the air. Gretel roared with pleasure, swinging her brutal arms relentlessly.
“Kyahahaha!!!! Yes, this is it! This is how it should be! This is the pecking order between you and me! Where do you get off being so cocky, you stupid, ugly b*tch! Die, die!!!”
She was unleashing a mindless barrage of violence on Alice. The tables had completely turned.
I frantically grabbed my scythe and stood up. This was dangerous.
I charged at the terrifying owl monster, swinging the scythe at her back when a clear voice cut through the chaos, ringing in my ears.
“Don’t touch her.”
*CRASH!*
I didn’t understand what was happening. Gretel, who had been right in front of me, had vanished. Then I heard a loud crash behind me. When I turned around, I saw a gaping hole where the wall of the candy house used to be. The outside was exposed and Gretel was rolling in the bushes, clutching her arm and screaming.
“kkyaaak! My, my arm! My arm!!!”
Her pride and joy of an arm was not only broken in half, but the bone was sticking out through her skin.
*Thud, thud.* Alice brushed past me. She was bleeding. She wasn’t as messed up as Gretel, but it was clear she had taken some serious hits.
“Alice……”
Alice walked right past me and out the door.
“Hah, huah! O-oh, don’t come near! You monster! Wh-where did a monster like you come from!”
Gretel, in absolute terror, tried to get up, but Alice’s kick sent her sprawling backwards again. Then, Alice lightly stepped on Gretel’s massive leg.
Alice’s foot, placed on Gretel’s leg which was five times her own size, began to slowly press down. The thick leg caved in, then the sound of something snapping and shattering rang out, and the spot that was stepped on flattened instantly.
“!!!!!”
Gretel, overwhelmed by the unbearable pain, couldn’t even scream, tears streaming down her face as she let out a silent cry.
Then, her remaining leg and arms followed the same procedure. Her limbs crushed, Gretel could only gasp for breath. Her chest heaved up and down roughly. Alice, with an indifferent expression, climbed on top of Gretel’s body.
“Does it hurt?”
“P-please, p-please have mercy. I-I was wrong. Huh? I’ll give you anything you want. So please, let me live!!”
“Okay.”
“Huh?”
Alice, readily agreeing. She smiled faintly and said,
“Send me home. Then I’ll let you live.”
“Th-that’s…….”
Gretel couldn’t bring herself to say it was beyond her power. Alice, as if she’d expected this, reached out her hand toward her head.
“You can’t? Then you have to die.”
