Five days passed in the blink of an eye. People talked about the sudden long-term outing of the count couple, but no one asked them directly about their journey.
“Madam. Have a nice trip.”
Emily was the type who believed that the reason the count couple left was because of a sweetheart situation. She smiled happily and enthusiastically packed Cordelia’s luggage.
“I told you that you’re going alone without a maid, so I packed only the essentials. Don’t worry.”
“Yes. Thank you. Emily.”
Cordelia rubbed her bloodshot eyes and greeted her family. The amount of homework had increased dramatically in the past few days, so her sleep time had also decreased significantly. It was
too sparse for a count’s party. The coachman she brought was a face she had never seen before, and the only knight she had escorted was Beluche Ingrion, who had recently been hired as a knight.
“Please go in, Madam.”
“Thank you, Baron.”
Baron, disguised as a coachman, opened the carriage door.
It felt strange to see an old man with wrinkles all over his body, having always seen him as solid water.
Cordelia got into the carriage, being seen off by Baron Lancaster and others. Leonard had already entered the carriage.
As soon as she sat down, he handed her a bundle of papers.
“What is all this?”
“What? These are things to study on the way.”
“… … Can I sleep?”
“Sleep? Yes. Sleep. How many minutes are you going to sleep?”
“How many minutes? Why are the units in minutes?”
“No matter how cruel I am, I won’t tell you to sleep for a few seconds.”
“Yes. Thank you. I’m about to cry.”
“I’m going to cry.”
Cordelia clenched her teeth and took the paper he handed her. As expected, all kinds of magic circles were drawn on it. The carriage finally started off with a jerk.
“It’s not too late, so why don’t you reconsider?”
“What?”
“I have a reasonable suspicion that even if I study hard, it might be impossible for me to actually see the barrier of Delorana. How about the three of you going without me?”
“Don’t worry, disciple. If you can’t see it, I’ll stay there until you can.”
Leonard, imitating his very affectionate and merciful teacher, consoled his anxious disciple. The disciple, who was listening, felt like he was going to explode with anger, but held it in.
At that moment, a knocking sound was heard outside. Leonard opened the window.
“There’s a dog following me.”
“Dog?”
Baron said, looking at the back of the carriage. Leonard opened the carriage door halfway to check.
“A pack of wild dogs?”
“No. It’s more like a dog that Lady Cordelia used to raise.”
“Huh? The one I raise?”
He thought about what kind of dog I raise, and then a name suddenly came to mind.
“Is it Lottie?”
“I don’t know exactly, but a dog similar to the one I saw back then has been chasing me since I started.”
“Wait a minute, stop the carriage.”
After waiting for a while, the carriage stopped jerking. Cordelia jumped out.
“Lotty!”
She called loudly, and a dog came walking towards her from afar. It really was Lotty. Cordelia was so happy that she ran over to Lotty and tried to hug him… …
“Didn’t you come to see me?”
Lotty quickly turned around and avoided Cordelia’s hug. Cordelia moved her hands away, crouched down a little further away, and met Lotty’s gaze.
“Lotty. I told Emily to bring you meat every day. So go home and wait. I’ll be right back.”
Cordelia took out a bunch of beef jerky that she had prepared to eat in the carriage and handed it to Lotty.
“Here, eat this. Eat it all and go to the castle. Okay?”
Normally, Lottie would have buried her nose in her mouth and eaten it without thinking, but for some reason, Lottie didn’t even look at the jerky and stared at Cordelia. It was the first time she had stared into Lottie’s blue eyes for so long.
Lottie probably didn’t think of her as his master, but she felt sorry and grateful that he followed her.
“Is that your dog?”
“Huh? You’re here? Just a moment. I’ll say hello and send you back soon.”
“How long have you been raising it?”
“I didn’t raise it. I just fed it occasionally. The servants said it used to be a stray dog near the castle.”
Leonard looked down at Lottie for a long time and then reached out his hand. Lottie suddenly bared his teeth and growled.
“What, what did you do?”
“This isn’t a dog.”
“What are you talking about? Then what kind of cat is Lottie?”
She laughed it off, thinking Leonard was joking, but Cordelia’s lips hardened when she heard the next sentence.
“It’s not a dog, it’s a demon.”
“Huh?”
“A demon. Judging from the fact that he barely has any energy, he seems to be a low-level demon.”
“What do you mean? A demon. What kind of demon is our Lottie? She’s so kind and gentle.”
A demon was something she’d only seen in books. A demon is said to live in Glendeny, the rainforest of negativity and tears at the southern end, and it’s a cross between a demon and a beast. They
say it’s so ferocious that people can’t even approach it, but Lottie is a demon.
Cordelia couldn’t easily believe his words.
“How unusual. For someone who’s not even a familiar to wander around like this.”
“What’s a familiar?”
“A demon that’s been tamed by a human is called a familiar. In Alino, a person who tames a demon is called a nastine. Hmm. “ Is it a familiar that Nastang lost or died?”
“But isn’t it dangerous if it’s a demon beast? Lottie has never shown her teeth or threatened me. Rather, she’s been beaten by people while stealing food.”
“Nastie usually steals the young of demon beasts to tame them. If this demon beast was tamed by humans since it was a baby, it’s not strange that it has a gentle personality.” “
Oh, do you think it follows me because it thinks of me as its master? Ouch!”
Leonard suddenly slapped Cordelia on the shoulder. It didn’t hurt much, but she was startled by the sudden contact.
“What, why are you hitting me? I was just saying. Do you have anything to hit?”
“You’re so gentle.”
“Huh?”
“If it really thought of you as its master, it would have threatened me the moment I touched you. Judging from the fact that it’s just sitting there without any reaction, I think it thinks of me as someone who gives it meat.”
“Lottie… … Is that really true?”
Cordelia demanded an answer from Lottie with moist eyes.
She had built up a relationship with him for so long, but he was just a meat giver.
Leonard must have lost interest in Lottie because he went back to the carriage first.
“Send him back, whether he’s a horseman or something. I can’t take him with me.”
“Okay.”
Unfortunately, she couldn’t take Lottie to Delona’s estate. She had to say goodbye here.
“Lottie. I’ll go. See you later.”
Cordelia steeled herself and turned around and returned to the carriage. As soon as she got on the carriage, she said to Baron.
“Speed up the pace, Baron. Then Lottie will give up and go back.”
“Yes. Okay.”
Baron pulled the reins and hurried the horse. Since they were running on the plains, the horse easily went ahead. Cordelia opened the window slightly to check behind her. Lottie’s appearance changed into a dot in an instant.
Cordelia quickly forgot about Lottie. Leonard handed her another bundle of papers, asking where he had come from.
She was surrounded by a magic circle until they arrived at a village that evening.

“Huh.”
Cordelia yawned lazily in the carriage. The sun had already set and it was dark outside. Baron, who had gone to check out the inn, came back just then.
“They say there’s only one room, what should we do?”
“Only one?”
“Yes. They said there are no rooms at the inn because it’s the season when many fur traders come.”
“I think you should go up and sleep for today.”
“We’ll camp nearby. It’s late, so go up quickly, Master.”
As expected, one of the rooms was given to Leonard. Cordelia, who was watching from the side, was dumbfounded.
“Look here. What about me? Can’t you see me? I’m the only woman here.”
“You can just sleep on the ground, right? Our master is a noble man, so if you sleep outside, you’ll be in big trouble.”
“I’ll be in big trouble, I said!”
“Lady Cordelia, sleep in the carriage. Belluce and I can sleep outside.”
Even the Baron, whom she trusted, took it for granted that Leonard would sleep in the room. He talked about giving up the carriage as if it were some great privilege. Cordelia stuck out her lips and muttered.
“I’m a countess too… … . I’m sleeping outside. I can’t even wash… … .”
“Fine. Cordelia and I will share a room, so come to the first floor of the inn tomorrow morning and wait.”
“Yes? But… … .”
“Won’t that be uncomfortable?”
Surprisingly, the question was directed at Leonard. Cordelia was dumbfounded.
“No, wait a minute. You should ask me whether it’s uncomfortable or not. Huh? You’re going alone while someone is talking? Wait a minute. Master! I’ll go with you!”
Cordelia hurried after Leonard, carrying only a small bag, afraid that she might lose him. When she ran in a hurry, the waiter was already there to answer the phone.
“How many people will you be staying?”
“Two.”
“Come on, let’s go together.”
Cordelia caught her breath and stood next to Leonard. The waiter glanced at Cordelia and smiled wryly.
“Are you two a married couple?”
