“Why are you asking?”
“If you pay extra, you can use the bathroom for a couple.”
“No. We don’t need it.”
“Of course.”
Acceptance and rejection came at the same time. Cordelia turned her head sharply and looked at Leonard.
“S-No. Honey. Don’t you think we need such a big bathroom?”
“I do.”
“My opinion is… … . Yes. When did you ask for my opinion? Do as you wish.”
“Would you like me to prepare a bathroom for you?”
Leonard nodded. The employee smiled broadly and guided the two to the last remaining room.
Fortunately, the room was not in bad condition, perhaps because it was an inn located on a street frequented by merchants.
“Here is the bathroom key. Enjoy your time.”
He bowed and left the room. Cordelia looked around the room once and then sneaked a look at Leonard.
I didn’t want to sleep in the carriage, so I followed him blindly, but would he really give up his bed?
‘If anything, I’ll just sleep in the couch. It
’s better than sleeping cramped up in a narrow carriage.’ If you lower your expectations, you’ll be less disappointed. Cordelia put her luggage down in a corner and circled around the couch. Leonard stopped unbuttoning his top and said,
“Why are you standing there?”
“Huh? No, just. I think I should sleep here… .”
“What are you doing? Sleep in the bed.”
“Oh, really? Is that okay?”
“Uh. I’ll wash first.”
“Yes, yes!”
Cordelia’s face brightened. No one treated her like a woman, but it seemed like the Master acknowledged(?) the fact that she was a woman.
She quickly grabbed her luggage and jumped to the bed in case he changed his mind.
Then she took off her dresses one by one. Since it was a trip without a maid, instead of a complicated and fancy dress, I prepared clothes that were easy to wear alone, so I undressed without much difficulty, leaving only my chemise.
As I was taking off my stockings, a sudden sound came and steam poured into the room. Cordelia said without looking back.
“Are you done washing?”
“Yes.”
“Then me too, ugh!”
“What? Did a rat come out?”
“Why are you lying down there?”
Leonard lay down right next to Cordelia so naturally. When she jumped up and shouted, he asked back as if it was strange.
“Why? Then where do you sleep?”
“Over there! There’s a stool!”
“How can someone sleep there?”
He thought her words were a joke, so he answered casually. He hit the pillow, went into the blanket, and closed his eyes.
Cordelia stiffly rolled her eyes, unable to do anything. Her mind was already saturated.
‘What, what, what? Are you telling me to sleep in bed or not? Did you mean to sleep together?’
“Then what about me?”
“Sleep in the bed or not. Whatever you want.”
Even though he has my husband’s body, inside he is a completely different man. Sleeping in the same bed was definitely uncomfortable.
Hesitating, Cordelia quietly got up and went to the bathroom. She quickly washed up, but the man who took the bed still didn’t seem to want to move.
She walked over to the chair and sat down. The candlelight was flickering, illuminating the dark room. Cordelia laid down on the chair and realized that there was no pillow or blanket to cover herself with.
After lying down for five minutes, her back started to hurt and her body started to tremble as the wind blew through the wooden walls.
She couldn’t hold out for ten minutes and jumped up again and walked to the bed.
“Master.”
“Why.”
“Are you really going to sleep there?”
“I’m really going to sleep here, so don’t talk to me.”
“Really, really?”
“… … .”
She didn’t even respond anymore. Leonard was already asleep with his eyes closed. There was no sign of a gentlemanly consideration to give up his bed to Cordelia.
Here, she had two choices:
pretend not to know and sleep next to him, or lie down on the couch.
Cordelia glared at the couch. Then she turned and said to Leonard.
“Master. If you touch me… …”
“If you talk nonsense one more time, I’ll throw you out.”
Leonard said with his eyes closed. There was a hint of irritation in his voice, so he intuitively knew that this was his last warning.
‘It’s my husband’s body anyway.’
It was the perfect sentence to rationalize the situation. No matter what, legally and physically(?), he was her husband.
The shame came second. She had already been sitting on the hard carriage seat all day, so it was hard to sleep naked on that couch.
Cordelia slowly slipped into bed. The feeling of the soft fabric on her back relieved her fatigue.
She forced her drooping eyelids and thought,
‘Wake up, Cordelia. No matter how much you don’t treat me like a woman, the Master is a man! Just in case, let’s sleep when the Master sleeps.’
Then she closed her eyes for a moment.
Someone shook her body violently and said,
“The sun has risen. Wake up.”
“Huh?”
“It’s morning, so wake up.”
She was about to ask what he meant. Rubbing her eyes, she barely got up, and the sun was pouring in through the window.
Oh my. As soon as she lay down, her nervousness faded away.
When she looked around, Leonard had already gotten all dressed.
“Morning? Already? I just closed my eyes and opened them?”
“How long are you going to keep talking nonsense? “Beluce and Baron are waiting downstairs. Get dressed and come down.”
Leonard said bluntly and left the room first. Cordelia blinked and got out of bed.
It was hard to believe, but it really was morning.
She hurriedly got dressed, washed up, and went down to the first floor.
Beluce, Baron, and Leonard were already eating.
“You’re here. Please sit down. I ordered porridge. Is that okay?”
“Yes. It’s good.”
Baron handed Cordelia the porridge in a rough wooden bowl. Cordelia silently took it and ate it.
Beluce looked down at Cordelia and said,
“I hope you slept well, my master.”
“Who? Me?”
“Yes. You. You. My master gave me the grace to sleep in the same room, so you didn’t just lie down and fall asleep, did you?”
Cordelia’s words stung a little, but she shouted back.
“Beluce doesn’t seem to know much, but I’m Countess Abrams. I’ll be the one taking care of you.”
“What’s a countess from a remote rural area doing? Our master… … .”
“Huh! Why don’t you get out?”
At that moment, the attendant shouted loudly from the door. It seemed like he was kicking out even a beggar. Cordelia looked there without thinking much, then jumped up from her seat in surprise.
“Huh?”
“What’s wrong?”
“Lotti, isn’t it Lotti?”
A thin, unattractive gray dog. It was definitely the Lotti Cordelia knew.
She put down her spoon and ran to the entrance. It was even more certain when she looked closer. Cordelia called Lotti’s name in joy. Lotti wagged his tail very faintly.
“Lotti!”
“Is it your dog?” When
Cordelia, who was obviously a noblewoman, called the dog’s name in a friendly manner, the attendant took a step back awkwardly.
“That’s right. It’s my dog. Can I bring it?”
“Oh, yes. Of course. I thought you were a stray dog. I’m sorry.”
“Would you like some meat to feed Roti?”
“Yes. I’ll bring it right away.”
The waiter disappeared without a word, and Cordelia took Roti to the table. Leonard frowned as soon as he saw Roti.
“How on earth did you find your way here?”
“Isn’t Roti so smart? He must have known we were here.”
“No matter how low-ranking you are, you’re still a demon. You followed me all that way.”
Baron rubbed his gray beard and looked at Roti closely. Just then, the waiter brought a chunk of meat. Cordelia handed it to Roti. Roti must have been very hungry because he ate it whole.
“Eat plenty. It was hard to come all the way here, Roti.”
“Oh, dear. If someone knew, they’d think we brought you here against our will.”
“So, Master.”
“No.”
“Why did you say no without listening?”
“I know you didn’t listen. I can’t take you. Don’t you know where we’re going?”
“I know that, but… … . How can we send you back after we’ve come this far?”
“No.”
“This is too much… … .”
“If you’re done eating, get up. We’ve got a long way to go.”
Leonard said firmly and got up from his seat. When he got up, the two men followed him silently.
Cordelia looked back and forth between Lottie and the departing group, then sighed.
“Lottie. I’m sorry. The Master said he can’t take you.”
The plate that had already been given to Lottie was cleanly empty. Cordelia reached out and lightly patted the dog’s head. This time Lottie didn’t avoid
it either. “It’s not too late, so go back to the castle. I’ll be back soon. Okay? Understood?”
“A demon.”
Someone muttered behind Cordelia. The voice was so clear and pure that she couldn’t help but turn around.
He was tall and covered in a dark cloak. His face was also covered by a hood, so all she could see was his chin.
“Who?”
“Just a traveler passing by. By the way, is that demon your ladyship? Did you get it from some Nastien?”
“I don’t know why I should tell you that.”
Cordelia hid Lottie behind her back, filled with suspicion and wariness. At first, Baron didn’t notice at all, but he recognized Lottie as a demon at a glance. He was no ordinary person.
A wizard better than Baron suddenly appeared in a rural village like this? Anyone who looked at it would find it suspicious.
