Cordelia held her breath and slowly backed away. She even blinked carefully.
‘I can’t die in vain here.’
Cold sweat poured down her face, but she never turned her eyes away. She had an instinct that the moment she turned around and turned her back, the monster would pounce on her. A
long standoff ensued. A short whistle was heard cutting through the tense air. It was definitely a human sound. The monster turned its head in that direction.
In that brief moment, Cordelia quickly turned around and started running in the opposite direction.
Not long after, she suddenly heard a thud behind her.
‘Isn’t that Beluche?’
After gaining some distance, she looked back and saw a black-haired knight struggling and fighting the monster.
The sword was far away, and Beluche was struggling with the monster with his bare hands.
The match soon turned to the monster’s side. The monster crushed Beluche and opened its mouth wide. It seemed as if it would swallow him up at any moment.
Beluche held onto its mouth with both hands and held on, but her low moaning made her feel that she was losing strength.
“Ugh.”
Cordelia hesitated for a moment. But soon she used all her strength to run towards the sword that Beluche had dropped. She quickly picked it up and ran towards Beluche and the monster with all her might.
“Beluche!”
Beluche then twisted her body as if telling her what to do, showing her the inside of the monster’s mouth.
Cordelia used all her strength to thrust her sword into the monster’s gaping maw. Her unhealed left hand tingled so much that she almost dropped her sword.
Blood gushed out like a fountain. The two of them were covered in the monster’s hot blood.
Kwaaaaag!
The monster struggled. Beluche, who escaped from underneath during the gap, struck the final blow.
He pushed Cordelia’s half-inserted sword inside with all his might. The sharp sword pierced the soft palate and came out the back of her throat.
“Huh, huk.”
“Haa, haa.”
The two of them finally let out their long-held breaths after confirming that the monster’s breath had completely stopped.
Strangely, the smell of the demon’s blood was not as bad as that of a human.
Beluche asked first.
“Why didn’t you run away?”
“Why would I run away? Even if I were this kind of person, I’d be a corpse without loyalty.”
To be honest, she had planned to just leave him and run away. Beluche had said so cruelly to her on the ship that she hated him.
However, on the other hand, she was grateful to him. If she had been unknowingly betrayed, she would have trembled with betrayal, but thanks to him, she had time to collect her feelings.
“Huh.”
“Beluche, you’re really surprising. You saved me. I thought you’d only take my left hand if I got eaten by the monster.”
It was half a joke, but half serious. Beluche probably wouldn’t have been surprised even if he had watched her get eaten from afar.
“Master hasn’t used you yet, right?”
“Oh, so you saved me because I still have a use for you. Well.”
Cordelia was convinced by his words.
“But how did you find me?”
“I saw some idiot running around in a forest full of demons, screaming, and I thought he wanted to die, so I came to check it out.”
“… … I thought there would be at most wolves.”
“Yeah. There’s nothing I can do. I heard that being stupid is something you’re born with and can’t be fixed.”
An awkward alliance was formed. Cordelia and Beluce walked together, not too close or too far apart.
However, Beluce’s steps kept lagging behind. Cordelia looked back without thinking much, and when she saw a bloodstain on the bushes, she was startled and approached Beluce.
The blood on the ground was flowing from Beluce’s abdomen.
“Are you hurt? Why didn’t you tell me you were hurt?”
“If I told you? Do you know how to use healing magic?”
“I don’t know that, but I know how to stop bleeding.”
Cordelia borrowed a dagger from Beluce and ripped off the bottom of her skirt without hesitation. Then she bandaged the wound as tightly as she could. Cordelia’s left hand, which had not yet recovered, lacked strength, so Belluce tied the finishing knot.
“You can’t die.”
“It’s my heart.”
“If Belluce dies, who will protect me when the next demon comes?”
“You have no shame. It’s amazing to see you asking me to protect you again.”
“You have no shame or pride when it comes to your life.”
Cordelia said shamelessly. Belluce’s gait gradually slowed down, and after walking for a short distance, she decided to rest at the base of a large tree.
“How did you meet Master?”
“Why are you suddenly asking about my past?”
“I’m curious as to why you’re so obsessed with Master.”
“What’s with the obsession?”
“Ah. Rather than obsession, should I say I’m jealous of everything around the Master?”
Cordelia’s words made Beluche glare at her fiercely, but for some reason Cordelia no longer felt scared of him.
“I heard from the Master. Your father tried to kill Beluche because he was an illegitimate child.”
“You say it’s someone else’s family history so easily?”
“I have a similar father. My father sold me for five hundred thousand ringgit. He wouldn’t sell the family heirloom even if he starved to death. It was even worse when he drank. He was a terrible person who would easily hit me with a handcuff and even a leather belt. If I were an illegitimate child, you would have killed me as soon as I was born?”
“… … .”
“So how did you meet? Master?”
When Cordelia revealed her shame first, Beluche hesitated for a moment and then opened her mouth.
“I met him by chance on the street when I was twelve. He was the most brilliant person I’ve ever seen.”
“Really? I don’t know what the real Master looks like, so I can’t imagine.”
“Once you regain your original body, you will understand what I mean.”
“Hmm. When you say it like that, I am excited. So? Did you see me on the street?”
“After I found out that you were Attila’s eldest son, I went to you without thinking and begged you to accept me as your subordinate. Of course, you didn’t even pay attention to me at first.”
“What was your personality like back then? Was it similar to how it is now?”
“You became much gentler as you grew up.”
“… … This?”
This was the most shocking thing I had heard today. If this personality had become gentler now, it was hard to imagine how serious it must have been when you were young.
Beluce blinked slowly.
“I was rejected, but I kept chasing you. When you said you would accept me when I became useful, I started learning swordsmanship… … .”
“That’s when you learned swordsmanship. So?”
His voice became smaller and his focus became unfocused.
In fact, Cordelia wasn’t asking because she was curious about his past.
As she bandaged Beluce’s wound, she realized that the wound was deeper than she had thought. In addition, the amount of bleeding was considerable.
Cordelia approached Beluche and struck her cheek hard. Beluche frowned and got up.
“Ugh, what are you doing? Do you want to die?”
“I hit you because you felt like I was dying, not you. If you don’t want to get hit by me again, come to your senses.”
“Who would die?”
“If you answer me late one more time, I’ll hit you on the other cheek too.”
Beluche’s eyes were irritated by Cordelia’s threats, but she didn’t say much.
“Now, let’s talk about the rest. You even said you learned swordsmanship.”
“Did you learn how to use that bracelet?”
He suddenly changed the subject. Cordelia raised her left hand and looked at the bracelet.
“Huh? This one? No.”
“Evrard’s treasure is a magical item engraved with powerful ancient magic. It can only be used three times.”
“Only three times?”
Cordelia couldn’t hide her disappointment. I thought it was something great since Leonard had been searching for it for a year, but even though I don’t know what kind of magic it is, I can only use it three times.
“Three chances to save my life.”
“How great is the magic?”
“Teleportation. He said that I can imagine the place I want to go and recite the stimulating word.”
Only then did I realize why this bracelet had such great value. Teleportation was an ancient magic that no one alive could use, just as he had said.
It was a magic that even the great Leonard didn’t know the principle of.
Cordelia clapped her hands lightly in joy.
“Great! Then I can use this to return to the village. If I call a doctor and get treatment right away, Beluce… … .”
“That’s something that only the caster can use. Listen carefully. The stimulating word is Leonard. It’s my master’s name.”
Cordelia reflexively turned around. There was nothing to see, but she felt a little uneasy.
Why was Beluce suddenly telling her this?
She got up, strained her eyes, and looked around carefully. Only then did she vaguely see the eyes of at least five pairs of monsters. She
had barely defeated one,
so now there were five. Beluche, the knight, must have noticed their presence. That must have been why she said this to Cordelia.
“Go. Now.”
“What about Beluche?”
“My original dream was to become dog food when I die. So go quickly. If you die, my master won’t be able to get his body back.”
Beluche let out a laugh as she said this, finding it funny herself. Cordelia’s legs froze. She knew in her head that she had to go, but her mouth just wouldn’t open.
In the meantime, the monsters began to reveal themselves one by one. Just slowly closing in on the encirclement made Cordelia gasp for breath.
Belluce gasped and shouted,
“Don’t hesitate, go quickly!”
“I want to go… … . I really want to go.”
Cordelia pulled the sword out of Belluce’s scabbard with trembling hands.
“If I run away like this now, I think I’ll regret it for the rest of my life.”
“What are you doing? Are you crazy?”
“I think I’m crazy.”
She wanted to just say something, but she was more scared of leaving Belluce behind and running away alone. This was better than suffering from an unforgettable sense of guilt.
“Go! Can’t you hear me?”
“This sword. How am I supposed to use it?”
“I’m going crazy. Seriously.”
Belluce limped to her feet. She took her sword from her and gave her a dagger instead.
“I’ll give you one arm, so you can stab the devil in the eye.”
“That’s so easy to say?”
“Then you’ll give me your arm instead?”
Cordelia immediately shut her mouth. She tried to calm her trembling arms.
“If we both eat dog food together, Master will be very happy.”
“If we are found in the stomach of a monster, Master will take revenge on us, right?”
“Hahaha.”
Beluche laughed loudly. It was the first time. He had laughed so cleanly.
But soon the smile disappeared from Beluche’s lips. The leader of the monsters jumped high above them.
