Paladin of the Dead God - Chapter 97

Episode 97 Confession (1)
The soothing light emanating from the sentinel’s lighthouse banished the night and restored order.
The grass and trees that had already frozen and died did not come back to life, but there were no longer any ghosts flowing, melting, or mixing into the world. Only then did the little boy feel like he was out of the storm and had his feet on solid ground.
It was the world he needed to be in, the world he wanted to be in.
And then there was Isolde.
Heresy Questioner of the Code of Light.
Isaac had not yet been able to put all the tentacles that came out when the afterlife was flooded into his body. I was putting it back in, but not fast enough. Complex emotions passed through Isolde’s eyes, but she did not show any feelings of wanting to cut Isaac down right away.
And it was the same with Isaac.
“Master Isaac!”
Hesabel jumped out at the moment and quickly blocked the gap between Isaac and Isolde. Her drawn dagger and spear were aimed as if they would stab Isolde at once. Isolde was perplexed by an unfamiliar Walaika headhunter who suddenly appeared on her Isolde street.
It was clear what Hesabel was thinking and judging in that short period of time. A chilly atmosphere has descended.
The moment Hesabel was about to rush towards Isolde, Isaac grabbed her wrist.
“stop.”
“Ah, Isaac… … .”
Isaac lost his balance and stumbled. An intense feeling of hunger came over Isaac. Perhaps because of the intense battle, or because of the overflow of the afterlife, his body had consumed almost all of the ‘meat’ to restore its original state.
“Have you secured the furnace craftsman?”
“Yes, yes! “No, Baxter is protecting you!”
“okay. Then let’s go back… … .”
Isaac said that and fell down.
The sight before my eyes suddenly became dark.

“It’s been a while.”
Isaac opened his eyes. All around was black darkness.
But only one man, a man wearing the armor of a Paladin of the Code of Light, was the only one looking at Isaac with color.
It seemed to be because the round halo surrounding his head illuminated his body.
As soon as Isaac saw the man, he realized that this was a dream. Because that guy couldn’t exist now, he couldn’t possibly exist.
“To be precise, it is not a dream. “It’s more like thinking.”
The paladin, no, Carlsen Milter, answered as if he had read Isaac’s thoughts.
The Carlsen Milter that Isaac had devoured was in front of him.
He looked much more tired and haggard than I remembered, but it was still clear that it was Carlsen.
‘This is another strange dream.’
Isaac wondered why Carlsen had appeared in his dreams. Isolde’s identity was discovered, and the brazier craftsman has arrived, and it’s not the time to sleep in an urgent situation.
“Don’t worry. You are now back at the monastery and recuperating. Hezabel is clinging to the ceiling, guarding you, and Zihillet is guarding the door. The brazier craftsman and the Salt Council boatman have returned safely, and Isolde is waiting for you to wake up.”
Isaac thought Carlsen’s words strange. He is now unconscious. But how can you know the external situation so intimately? Are you just guessing?
“You have the ‘rat in the wall’ ability. You idiot. “Even if I don’t want to see or hear it, that sense is awake and pouring information into your body.”
For a moment, Isaac got goosebumps.
Isaac reflexively fumbled for a sword, but found nothing. No, there was no such thing as Isaac’s body to begin with. This darkness, this space itself, was Isaac. Isaac was looking at Carlsen from all directions.
As if it had entered Isaac’s body.
“It’s similar. “This place is like your stomach.”
So is everything I’ve eaten up to this point in here?
“Some of it. Weak things, things with low self-consciousness, melt away quickly. Heinkel Gulmar was there for a moment, but now I can’t see where he went, and the ancient god called Goluwaru was broken into pieces, mumbling something for a while, and then disappeared. Oh, surprisingly, the Red Flesh Prophet also stayed for a while… … Of course, just because you can’t see it, you can’t be sure it’s gone. “Because I don’t know either.”
Carlsen, on the other hand, was sitting neatly, looking undisturbed. He looked like a monk on a quest. Would you say that he was truly a paladin who dared to take on the position of a god? It had a subtle halo, and it was hard to see it as being corrupted at all.
But why did Carlsen suddenly appear? Is it like indigestion?
“Maybe it’s because of recent events.”
What happened recently? A conflict with the Immortal Church?
“no. “You created the scriptures.”
Isaac remembered ‘The Book of the Nameless Bug’.
A scripture created without deep thought to allow nameless chaos to become established as a single faith.
Carlsen was pointing that out.
“From that, your faith in the afterlife… … Connected to Urbansus. “That was the beginning of all the changes and nightmares that have happened to you recently.”
Afterlife.
Isaac suddenly came to his senses.
The afterlife is inseparable from faith. No, it is no exaggeration to say that faith exists to explain and understand the afterlife. Therefore, each faith had its own afterlife.
The most common afterlife is heaven and hell, which represent the values and fears they pursue.
The Code of Light has a noble and elegant heaven with brilliant light, but it also comes with a hell full of boiling lava. The Red Grail Club has a heavenly banquet hall filled with all kinds of delicacies and handsome men and women, but at the same time, it has a hell where people are ‘cooked’ with the banquet hall’s menu.
But I had never heard of any afterlife for Nameless Chaos.
It was difficult to even imagine.
Carlsen said to Isaac with a wry smile.
“It is an afterlife that neither God, his agents, nor even believers know about. That would be really worth seeing. “It is truly an afterlife worthy of its name.”
What do you know? Why did you suddenly appear in front of me?
“Originally I was going to ignore you. No, I desperately wanted you to die. “I thought a lot about how I could harm you here.”
But Carlsen’s bitter expression showed that any attempt was futile.
“Swordsmanship, miracles, and rituals don’t work in this damn place. “It is a cursed place where even the voice of God cannot be heard.”
however?
“I just saw you and changed my mind.”
Change your mind?
Carlsen made no further reply.
He changed his praying posture and stood up with his hands on the floor. He looked at the ceiling. It was as if he was looking at Isaac, because Isaac was everywhere, and Isaac’s eyes were everywhere.
“It’s time to wake up. If you want an answer, ask the salt merchant. “He knows your situation better than I do.”

Isaac really opened his eyes.
As soon as I opened my eyes, my eyes met Hesabel hanging from the familiar ceiling.
“Isaac! “You’ve come to your senses!”
She immediately came down from the ceiling and checked Isaac’s condition. She was completely defenseless, but she thought she could trust her now that she had done no harm to her.
Even though Isaac woke up, he still felt heavy and weak.
Like an old man who has lost his temper.
“Hezabel.”
“yes! “Do you need anything?”
“Bring me a pig. “There is no need to learn it, so do it as quickly as possible.”
Only after eating a whole pig like that was Isaac finally able to regain his strength. Only then did the young child realize that the stamina that allowed him to move around so quickly was due to the effect of ‘predation’.
The physical strength of the listless old man just now was the original physical strength of the Nephilim. In order to function like a brisk paladin in real time, he had to constantly eat and drink.
‘Even though I trained hard, my stamina is quite cursed.’
Fortunately, Isaac had no major injuries, so there was no need for further treatment. Isaac immediately met with the officials to receive a report on the damage to the territory and tried to meet the furnace craftsman, but Hesabel suggested that it be delayed a bit.
“why?”
“The current atmosphere of praise and enthusiasm for Isaac is no joke. Paladins, priests, officials, and territory residents… … .”
According to the story that was roughly conveyed to Hesabel, the people of the territory now looked up to Isaac almost like an angel who had descended to earth.
He saved them from the life-threatening threat of the Immortal Church without any casualties, even rescued outsiders who were in danger, and went head-to-head with a lich and won after a fierce battle, making him worthy of being a legendary hero.
Isaac could tell right away that a lot of dramatization had gone into the story.
The battle took place in two places, but there must have been a mix of misunderstanding and exaggeration about the battle that neither party saw. As the story grew, Isaac was portrayed as a demigod who single-handedly cut down thousands of undead and defeated the angels of the Immortal Church.
And since the main character was now fatally injured and unconscious, everyone stayed up all night praying for his recovery.
“… … “I can’t help it.”
Isaac wanted to immediately brush aside the misunderstanding and tell them to work on restoring the territory while they were praying, but he decided to stop as Heshabel said. The amount of faith that came into him while he was unconscious was no joke.
Perhaps because the number of people praying increased and their faith deepened, nearly double the amount collected so far had come in. At this level, it seemed like it would be possible to not only improve the abilities of the apostles but also bring in more apostles.
Thinking that he might gain more faith if he postponed his return for a few days, Isaac decided to pretend to be injured just a little longer.
“Still, the restoration work on the territory cannot be delayed. It’s spring and there’s already a lot to do. “For now, let them know that you have passed the crisis, and that faithfully performing your duties is what a true believer is.”
“yes.”
“and… … “What happened to the Heretic Questioner?”
When Hesabel thought of Isolde, she pursed her lips and answered.
“I saved it for now. Just as Isaac said. I tried to pull out her tongue when she used her mouth carelessly, but luckily she didn’t talk nonsense. “I am currently helping to purify the territory contaminated by the Immortal Church.”
I thought so.
From the moment I heard that the territory was overflowing with enthusiasm for Isaac.
If Isolde, the Heretic Questioner, had gone around saying that Isaac looked like a monster because tentacles had come out of his body, it would have been quite a criticism.
But at the same time, I had doubts.
‘That’s good, but why didn’t you make a fuss? Because he is a glorified knight of the Holy Grail, are you saying he will be quietly interrogated and then secretly buried?’
It was a pretty likely guess.
From the church’s point of view, it would be a loss of face to say that the Holy Grail Knight, whom the church even tried to elevate as a saint, was actually a tentacled monster.
But deep down, Isaac knew that the guess was different from reality.
The reason why Isolde did not reveal Isaac’s identity was the same reason why Isaac kept Isolde alive.
“Call the Inquisitor. “I have something to talk about for a moment.”
