Rust - Chapter 15

RUST -15
Manager Hong held out his hand, enduring the pain that felt like his face was being split open.
He was a ghost. If he had thrown the blade horizontally, it would have pierced his cheekbone and pierced his ear. The carotid artery runs below his ear, near his jaw joint. So if he had thrown the blade horizontally, he would have died in one blow.
The fact that he was still alive meant that he had thrown the blade with it upright. If he had touched it wrong or moved it wrongly, it would have shaken the blade, and it was in a perfect position to cause a nerve to go out or sever the carotid artery.
Although he himself was a man of strong bones and a strong fist, he was still quite old for him to be so hot-tempered that he would stab someone in the wrong place if they touched him.
Above all, there was no way to survive even if he rushed at me like that. Not only was he skilled in throwing the sword, but he was also fearsome in the strength with which he struck the end of the sword handle and even caved in the cheekbone. Strictly speaking, it was not something you would encounter in everyday life.
Thinking about Director Choi and Director Baek, who he had raised, made his blood boil, but he couldn’t be vengeful for the death of his beloved children in a natural disaster, right? That’s why Manager Hong was able to endure it.
Director Choi and Director Baek were clearly top-level experts. They are hard to meet, but they are still top-level experts that you can meet with great difficulty.
Even Director Choi was close to first-class in terms of striking skills. Director Baek was hard to beat in terms of Jiu-Jitsu and ground techniques. However, the abilities of the two were within an understandable range.
Maru, on the other hand? It was a disaster.
Even if you just think about the current situation, it wasn’t a performance that an ordinary person could do.
If only Maru could be persuaded… If only he could be properly leashed, not just persuaded… Then he could even try to advance into South America. Advancing into South America meant that he could enter the huge North American market.
A company that was playing around in Asia was able to become a global company in one fell swoop.
Because a proper sword used in the shade is more frightening than a pitiful sum of money or power in the sun.
Even if you look at the sprouts that have come up now, Maru was a natural disaster. If you just take care of it a little and add a few good guys, those South American gangs, liberation forces, and revolutionary forces that are running around will definitely become fertilizer for the farm.
At the thought of releasing a real monster into South America, where mongrels were swarming, even the pain on Manager Hong’s face seemed to turn into heat.
‘Grab the flyer, quick.’
For Manager Hong, the short time he held out his hand felt incredibly long.

Maru could barely understand what Manager Hong was saying. Even Maru thought it was strange. He could hear the voice, but it was just a humming sound? It felt like he was hearing someone speaking in an alien language, not Korean.
No matter what Manager Hong said, Maru’s thoughts were focused only on how to kill Manager Hong and save his younger brother.
If you kill Manager Hong, his younger brother will die too. How? Who would contact Workshop 4? Ms. Kim is incapacitated. Even if you kill Manager Hong now, Workshop 4 will not know the situation.
‘Since there’s Miss Kim, should we just kill her?’
Since Ms. Kim was cooperative, there was no need to listen to Manager Hong’s noisy voice. Maru’s thoughts flowed in one direction.
Perhaps because he unconsciously thought that he was going to kill me anyway, Manager Hong’s voice sounded like a mumble. Occasionally, he seemed to say something meaningful, but I couldn’t properly perceive it.
4. There were at least 10 armed members in the workroom. Because of the nature of the space, weapons were everywhere, so the foreign workers there had to be considered as potential enemies.
‘I guess we should count 10 people, maximum 20.’
Even when fighting against two-digit numbers, Maru wasn’t scared. He felt like he could handle it if he just dealt with it. However, there was something that bothered him a little.
‘Are we going to kill foreign workers too?’
If Maru had planned it, there shouldn’t have been any witnesses. It wasn’t because of the CCTV. The CCTV footage couldn’t be conclusive evidence. The scandal of a politician named Kim Hak-in had broken out. Even though his face was completely revealed, it wasn’t accepted as evidence.
In a situation where even revealing one’s face would not be considered evidence, it was impossible to identify the person wearing sunglasses and a mask as Maru.
But the moment Maru said he would save his younger sister Naru, there was a possibility that the foreign workers who could hear Naru’s conversation would point out him. Should they all be killed just because of that possibility?
‘No. No. There is no reason to keep him alive.’
Maru changed his mind from finding a reason to kill to finding a reason to save. 4 Naru is being held captive in the workshop. They were the ones who didn’t report it to the police even though they saw a person being kidnapped.
What should we call those who just stand by and watch someone being obviously kidnapped?
Accomplice?
When I thought about it that way, my stuffy chest felt like it had been cleared away.
‘Okay. Let’s just clean it up.’
Only after I had roughly gathered my thoughts and taken a deep breath did Manager Hong’s words begin to enter my ears.
Manager Hong was a great guy.
He had sashimi stuck in his face, and he was in a situation where he could have lost at any moment. Nevertheless, he spoke his mind without hesitation. The more you listen to Manager Hong’s story, the more it sounds plausible.
Maru didn’t want to become a murderer. He didn’t even think about it. He just wanted to pay off his family’s debt and live well like everyone else. What if he took Manager Hong’s hand?
It was a farewell to everyday life. I could secure the safety of my family from them. My debts would be paid off, and I could receive a high salary or performance bonus. In return, I would lose Maru’s freedom, and I would have to go around cutting down strangers.
If they ask, anyone, whether man, woman, old man, child, or even the dog or cat they are raising, will do the work.
Maru thought that his talent, his talent for killing people, was the problem. There was also the strange feeling he felt in Japan. His gradually growing strength, agility, and instinctive sense. The person he was just a few months ago and the person he is now were completely different people physically.
What about the mind? He likes to play with friends and cares about his family, just like any other person. But how does he deal with the stress of everyday life? Can he continue to act like any other person in frustrating situations?
If you think about it, you’ve definitely had an altercation with a thug while driving. The thug chases you around, yelling at you to roll down your window, or he retaliates by blocking the road with his car and telling you to roll down your window. What would you do in that situation?
In the past, I would have been anxious and had difficulty deciding whether to report it to the police or not. If a thug hit me, I would have either taken the hit unilaterally to avoid both sides and go for a one-sided assault, or I would have hit both sides because it was dirty.
If it were now? I would definitely look around and wonder if I could organize it neatly.
To Maru, who had crossed the line, the world controlled by the guise of law was nothing more than a nuisance. In that world, a human being who relied on the law that could not immediately protect him from the violence before his eyes was a being who could die at any time.
[You think you can go back to your daily life after killing people like this? I don’t know before you see blood, but after you see blood, it’s different. Don’t you feel that way too? Do you think there’s a place other than the company that can take care of you?]
Manager Hong said so. The moment I realized that it was okay to see blood, I could understand that I could not go back to the time when I didn’t know it.
therefore.
Maru looked at Ms. Kim.

Manager Hong, who had reached out, sighed. He was not a man who would listen to his words. That was the atmosphere.
Maru was looking at Kim Yang, not at himself. What could he be thinking? What on earth is he thinking?
It wasn’t said to threaten Maru, but objectively speaking, it was nearly impossible to mess with a company in Korea and survive. Even if Maru himself could somehow survive, his family would not.
In the end, Maru was either caught by the company and killed, or at best, caught by the police and sentenced to death or life imprisonment, which was the only ending.
‘I thought you said you had brains, didn’t I?’
Manager Hong’s eyes turned to Ms. Kim. Real name Kim Young-hee, she was a North Korean defector in her teens who had survived the Chinese gangsters, police, and informers in the back streets of China. She was a beautiful girl who looked innocent at first glance, but when she held a gun, she turned 180 degrees.
It wasn’t a very useful talent in Korea, where gun control is strict, but it was a necessary talent when considering the future development of the North American market. She was the woman that Manager Hong took a bit of a risk to get out of China, thinking about the future of the company.
‘Why would that guy Maru be interested in Ms. Kim?’
‘He wouldn’t be the kind of guy who would save Miss Kim.’
The most certain way for Kim Yang to survive was for Maru to hold Manager Hong’s hand. What if Maru had decided not to hold his hand and was looking at Kim Yang? That meant he wanted something from Kim Yang.
It was also possible that Kim Yang and Maru had talked about something while he was unconscious. Kim Yang was so desperate for her life.
Who would want to die, but Ms. Kim had a strong desire to survive. It was hard to find ‘loyalty’ to the company or ‘duty’ to Manager Hong, whom she had known for nearly eight years, in Ms. Kim.
So it was only natural that when Maru held her lifeline in his hands, Ms. Kim would have made some kind of offer to Maru to save her life. Manager Hong thought as he endured the pain.
What if Kim Yang and Maru joined hands, and so he responded lukewarmly to his offer? What if his nicely worded offer didn’t work?
‘Should I use that?’
Since it was made to be used anyway, if it was going to be used, it should be used now while it still had life left.
“Wow, you’re staring at Miss Kim like that? Did the two of you have a nice conversation?”
Unlike Maru’s silence, Ms. Kim couldn’t see Manager Hong’s face properly.
‘I turned on the gas.’
Manager Hong’s mouth was bitter.
“You’re going to take a picture of me and go to Osundosun with Kim Yang? Are you really going to abandon your little brother, Maru? Are you going to take care of me and your little brother?”
“shut up.”
Maru growled. A dog that growls is not scary. Manager Hong snickered at the sight. The knife stuck in his cheekbone made him smirk.
“I think about it, but I’m not worried about my brother who is alone?”
Before Maru could have a seizure, Manager Hong cut him off exquisitely.
“Open your laptop on the table.”
Maru pulled out his laptop and opened it.
“Do you see the file in there? There’s a sansam file on your desktop. Did you open it? The password is 5882dolrido.”
The moment Maru clicked on the file, Naru’s face, covered in tears, came to mind.
[Brother! Brother Maru! Save me-]
As soon as he heard that sound, Maru stopped looking and closed the laptop with a loud thud.
“Oh, your expression is nice. Hey.”
Manager Hong made another bold move.
It’s a matter of the account.
