Rust - Chapter 18

RUST-18
What a detective saw were dismembered corpses.
The expression on the face of a detective examining the dismembered body was serious. It was a trace that could not have been found by a detective’s common sense.
‘He cut down the person behind the corpse all at once.’
But is that possible? Cut the left arm bone, cut the left ribs and spinal cord, and cut the right ribs and right arm bone. With the force of the cut, you cut the corpse and the victim holding it in succession?
What is this? Are we holding some kind of single-molecule cutter from science fiction?
The criminal who had cut him to pieces in such an instant rolled forward with one foot. Judging from his bloody footprints, he had moved about 10 meters in one step. A 100m runner runs about 10 meters per second, but he still runs about 4~5 meters in one step.
But once it jumps out, 10m? In place? Not jumping far? A super soldier? Some kind of genetically modified bioweapon? My thoughts were complicated.
What was even more terrifying was the fact that, during the 10m distance, every place the blade was supposed to have touched was cut off.
Let’s say you jumped a hundred times, boom- you flew and moved 10 meters in 1 second. You moved while slashing in all directions during that one second?
A detective got a headache when he saw the incomprehensible scene. It was scientifically incomprehensible.
The story of lifting an overturned car to save a son who was in danger of death, it was obviously an impossible story, but it was reality.
That’s a limit. What is this? Is it a hidden ability of humans to cut people to pieces in seconds?
At every step of the detective, a dismembered body rolled across the floor. Since he was wearing a body armor, he was unable to cut it with one blow, so he immediately split the head and decapitated it.
I cut off both arms holding the taser gun while avoiding the taser gun being shot from behind. Is it that easy to split a head and cut off a neck and arms?
‘The victims who were shot with the taser gun were both cut off the moment they aimed without being able to fire, and the same goes for the gas gun. Are their eyes in the back of their heads?’
Those gangsters, what kind of taser gun is that? You have to use the one you’re used to.
That’s where the traces went.
In the center of the filming set. In front of the mattress. There were footprints about 230~235mm long near the mattress, as if blood had splattered. A woman’s footprints. The criminal must have come to rescue this woman.
‘What kind of woman did you gangsters touch?’
One detective wondered whether it would be possible to catch the criminal even if he were to be found. He could be killed by long-range sniping, but approaching him with the intention of capturing him alive would only result in mass slaughter.
Woof-woof- the cell phone vibrated.
[Detective Han, do you remember the person who reported that drug over there?]
I thought of a young man who seemed to overlap with my past and who I had been fretting over. I remembered him clearly because his name was unique.
“Uh- yeah. That guy was Hamaru.”
He was a young man with a straight mind. Usually, when parents or relatives become addicted to drugs, they try to do something about it, but the people around them also become addicted to drugs, or the treatment is too late, so the drug addiction gets worse and the family falls apart. But this young man immediately reported his mother to 119, which created an opportunity for him to quit drugs.
[There was a murder at that person’s house. Our team conducted an initial investigation and the police station there contacted us. What should we do?]
“Today is a particularly hectic year. I’ll just check and organize the underground warehouse I received a tip about and head out right away, so don’t touch the site and just wait a moment.”
One detective preferred to be the first to arrive at the scene. When the forensic team was busy, the same feeling as before was lost. So, if you wanted to find some clues, it was best to see the crime scene before the forensic team or the local police detectives came around.
A detective headed to the place where he had received the tip. Time was running out.
They said there was a secret door leading to the basement inside the large refrigerator. The corner of the large refrigerator was really strange. There was a number key on one wall.
“You said the number was 0492.”
As one detective pressed the password, the entire wall opened with a hissing sound. There was a wide staircase leading down and a conveyor belt installed next to it. When you put down or pick up your luggage, you can just place it on the conveyor belt, so who knows what could be here······.
There were various items in the warehouse.
“Styrofoam? Why are you stacking this here?”
A thick solution was contained in a translucent container. I wondered if it was raw drug material, so I opened the lid and the smell of gasoline hit me. I saw a dull-colored powder. It was a metal? It was a mixture of powder and melted Styrofoam.
“what’s this?”
After passing a place where gasoline, kerosene, cooking oil, thinner, ethanol, and benzene were piled up, there was a glass display case.
There were antiques, and some that felt like relics. But nothing related to drugs. If it was benzene, ethanol, or something, it would be something that could be used in the drug manufacturing process, but if that was all, then the Antiquities Department would have to come.
A detective walked along the wall. As he left the antique and relic area, he saw weapons. Swords and firearms were displayed on the wall. There were many empty spaces here and there, but there were so many hanging things.
“Hah, you little brats, you were going to use a taser gun while you had this thing and you got cut down?”
And just a few steps away, in a glass-enclosed room, there was the drug that a detective was looking for. A glass-enclosed room and a glass storage box. Inside, translucent crystal-like granules were contained in a transparent bottle.
A detective clenched his fist.
“Officer, I found it here. Send the kids over, and you go ahead to the murder case at Mr. Hamaru’s house. I’ll take about an hour or two? This place will be sorted out by then, so I’ll follow you up. Okay. Check out what they’re doing, and no matter what they ask, always tell them that we have to see the scene to find out. Don’t get caught up in the nitpicking.”
[Yes. Then I will go up first.]
Just as one detective hung up the phone, an electronic beeping sound was heard.
“Huh? What is it?”
Beep? Beep? Beep-
Beep beep beep beep beep
A detective shouted into a wireless microphone.
“Everyone inside, get out. Everyone, get out. There’s an explosive!”
“Get your body out, no matter what. Everything!! Right now!!”
The electronic sound was getting faster and faster. It was like the sound of a time bomb. One detective ran out, shouting, ‘Step, save me.’
As I pulled myself out of the warehouse, a small explosion and flames shot up the stairs shortly thereafter.
“What the f-”
The flames that had risen up the stairs spread to the workshop. The flames spread in all directions as if flammable material had been spread.
A detective who was looking for a fire extinguisher escaped outside with a bewildered look on his face. It was a refrigerated pig slaughterhouse, essentially a giant refrigerator.
“Evidence. Damn it!! There’s evidence piled up right in front of my eyes.”
It was evidence of drug distribution. It was evidence of a drug case worth hundreds of billions of won. There must have been documents, and if not documents, there must have been computer files. But it was turning to ashes.
A detective shouted as he watched the flames.
“No! No! My evidence. The evidence!!”
A detective who had been absent-mindedly dialed 119 frantically.
“What? The bridge over the stream collapsed? No, I just crossed that bridge 30 minutes ago. Why is it collapsing? It just collapsed? So the fire trucks can’t come across? This whole place looks like it’s going to burn down. Don’t you have a fire helicopter to put out the forest fire? Shouldn’t we send a fire helicopter? Do you need permission from above to use a helicopter? Right now…”
Did these Worldpa bastards cut off the tail because they were caught? Or what? If there wasn’t someone watching this place, there was a fire and the bridge was cut off? One detective’s nerves snapped. Anger exploded inside him.
“F—ing F—ing f …
Flames began to rise here and there, as if some device had been installed somewhere else.
All the evidence and the scene were gone. All that was left was ashes.

On the hillside behind the workshop, Ms. Kim was watching below with binoculars.
It was Kim Yang who pressed the trigger. Soon after, smoke began to rise.
Ms. Kim turned her binoculars down again. Her right hand fingers had begun to swell and were swollen like sausages. Her movements were also dull. Ms. Kim’s eyes welled up with tears.
The company had installed a device that could incinerate the tail if it was ever stepped on. It could be set on fire with a timer, or it could be detonated remotely using a radio.
I wanted to scold my past self who had told me to tear down the floor and set it on fire right away, saying that it would destroy evidence, and that I had an ignition device so I could just use that.
‘You make a sick person do this.’
But if you want to avoid the company’s eyes and buy some time, setting it on fire is the right thing to do. If you set the fire on Maru carelessly and it doesn’t burn out completely, it’s even more of a headache.
If the police got involved in the arson, it would definitely make things worse than they already were. So we decided to turn the alarm up to maximum and activate the fuse when the police who sensed something was wrong ran outside.
‘You have to report it first.’
‘Aren’t you sure you can just set it on fire and dive in?’
‘Then you and I will immediately become suspects?’
‘If you burn everything, I’ll think I’m dead too. There’s a lot of flammable materials there, and there’s also homemade napalm? That kind of thing, so the temperature will really rise and everything will melt, he said.’
‘Priest Napalm?’
‘Yeah. They said you could mix gasoline, aluminum powder, and something else?’
Maru had a look on his face like he was wondering what was going on, but what could he do when it flew away to the other side of his memory?
‘Anyway, to make sure no one gets hurt, watch from the back mountain and then do it wirelessly.’
‘Okay. Then what about you?’
Instead of answering, Maru held out the black bag he was holding. When he opened the bag, it was a bundle of 50,000 won bills.
Ms. Kim raised the corners of her mouth without realizing it.
‘Go to the bank right now and withdraw all the money in your account in cash. If the company or the police come after you… No. Forget about the money in the bank. If you withdraw all that, they’ll immediately arouse suspicion.’
‘I have a lot of money in the bank?’
‘How much is it?’
‘I think there’s about 200 million?’
‘There’s probably 100-200 million in that bag, so forget about the bank. The money in the bank won’t disappear right away. We can take care of everything here and get it back when we safely leave the country. Forget about it for now.’
‘Ah- Okay.’
It was already scary, but this time it was really powerful. It was definitely powerful because it was heavy money, so it felt something. Ms. Kim nodded, holding onto the black plastic bag.
Kim Yang, who had been thinking about Maru for a moment, lowered her binoculars and said.
“Ah, it came out.”
The scene was filled with flames. The detective who appeared last screamed.
“No! No! My evidence. The evidence!!”
It was a scream that could be heard all the way up the hill behind the house.
“Ah- that’s right- I told you to cut off the bridge on the stream side too.”
119 must not come and put out the fire. Kim Yang pressed the wireless trigger and started to cross the hill. Behind her, the detective’s voice from earlier echoed like an echo. His voice was good.
“F—ing F—ing f …
No police officers died, no detectives died. Are you saying that this went according to plan?
Somehow the plastic bag felt heavy.
If my arms were okay, I would feel a weight in both hands.
Should I have Korean beef tofu for dinner tonight? My arms hurt, so I think it would be better to start with the Samgyetang Jeonbok Juk Special.
Behind Kim Yang’s footsteps, black smoke was rising as if it were filling the sky.
It’s a matter of the account.
