Rust - Chapter 323

RUST [RUST]-323
The streets of New York at night were full of lights and people.
Occasionally, a few people would disappear into the swaying shadows, but they were just one of the many. The disappearance of a stranger was not worth even the shallow attention. There were so many refugees coming from all directions.
Kwaaaaang-
A sudden gunshot followed by an explosion. People screaming scattered in all directions like cockroaches. Shadows that didn’t miss the gap snatched a few more people and disappeared.
How long did it take? The chaos finally subsided after the NYPD and SWAT teams arrived.
“Wh-Fuck-”
Rick spat out a curse that was stuck in his mouth and took off his bulletproof vest. A shattered bullet fell out of the bullet hole in the left corner and center of his chest, which had NYPD written on it.
Groaning softly, I lifted up my shirt, revealing a red, swollen bruise.
How long do I have to do this?
I wanted to quit a long time ago, but once I took off my clothes, I was headed straight for unemployment.
What was more tiring than unemployment was that the moment you beat up the police, it was difficult to get a cure. In the private sector, it was practically a battle over cures.
It wasn’t easy to give up the benefits of treatment that were being distributed to the immediate families of military and police officers.
Above all, it was too dangerous not to be able to find a cure in a reality like now. So I just gritted my teeth and endured.
‘The old medicine was one pill a week.’
Taking three pills a day regularly was harder than I thought. It was annoying and tiring to have to wake up in the middle of the day to take the pills even though I wanted to lie down in bed for half a day.
“Hey, Rick, you got lucky?”
“What a fucking misfortune…”
Rick responded to Ardo’s witty smile with a bitter curse, then groaned and pulled down his shirt again.
In the past, you would have gone straight to the hospital. Even if you were shot while wearing a bulletproof vest, you would have been hospitalized, received leave, and then received psychological treatment and rehabilitation. Even if you weren’t seriously injured, the fact that you were shot could be traumatic.
In movies, the police don’t get shot, change into bulletproof vests, and go into action right away, but in reality, that’s not the case. That’s an old story, though.
“Have you thought about it?”
“···it’s okay.”
Ardo’s mouth watered at Rick’s rejection.
“It’s a mutant virus, so the results are obvious, but you know it’s not a cannibalistic disease.”
If he had been an infected person who had anger issues and became a dementia zombie, there would have been no room for error, but he was not a cannibal. Ardo, noticing Rick’s sway, urged him in a low voice.
“You saw it at the scene today. They’re fine. And they don’t eat people every day. And above all, their movements. You’ll keep fighting with those guys. Do you think you can hold out?”
That was the problem. Those guys who were half-drunk on drugs. Those guys who couldn’t even hide or cover properly and were like, “Please kill me.” They can’t tell the difference between a movie and reality, or are they mistaken? But even while fighting those guys, there were still several people who were seriously injured.
Even with the mobilization of a SWAT team, including bulletproof vests, this wasn’t good. Dozens of people were deployed to capture just four people, and now it’s like this.
“So? You want to become a Maneater?”
“Whew. What about Maneater? Let’s call it Manhunter. You see? It’s the thing they carry around.”
A red shake, the texture of a milkshake. The guys would drink it and fight when they felt the urge to eat.
“There’s no need to tear the flesh out of it and do that.”
Are we going to keep fighting like this with guys who have 2-3 times the physical strength of an adult male? Isn’t that the same as asking for death? If they’re monsters, shouldn’t we be like that too?
“Don’t be scared. There’s a cure. If you feel like you can’t stand it anymore, just take the cure again.”
“Knowing that it’s not a cure?”
“Whether it’s suppression or prevention, the fact that there is an effective drug means that a proper treatment will be developed over time. So shouldn’t we put out the fire at our feet right now?”
“···Think about it.”
Adore swallowed and turned his head slightly, his mouth watering at Rick’s rejection.
“There are limits here too. If you want to decide, you’d better do it quickly.”
“You know it’s better to get a foothold early on, buddy,” Ardo whispered softly, tapping Rick on the shoulder twice before brushing past.
“Fuck···.”
Rick took off his already soaking wet shirt. Whether he changed his name to Man-Eater or Manhunter, he was still a cannibal.
Rick could sense the appetite in Ardo’s witty eyes. Why not grind people up and make them into shakes to eat?
What was even more bizarre was the way he had no idea that even thinking such a thing was insane.
How many people would have fallen for the idea that you have to become a monster to fight monsters, or the idea that you can just eat a cure if you want?
‘Should I stop?’
As Rick’s thoughts grew more complicated, an assembly order came from a speaker hanging from the ceiling.
[Instructions… (Step aside) All personnel, gather on the rooftop.]
The female voice was replaced by a deep male voice.
[I repeat again. Everyone except the security personnel, gather on the rooftop.]
What happened all of a sudden? Even the elevators seemed to be closed. As I went up the stairs, I saw heavily armed men with Homeland Security signs retrieving their weapons.
“Weapons over here.”
“Put it in a plastic bag and write your name and phone number on it.”
“What’s going on?”
“We don’t know either.”
“Why is the Department of Homeland Security installing itself here?”
“It’s an order. We’re not doing this because we like it.”
“Damn it. If this disappears, I’ll take responsibility.”
“We are capturing everything on CCTV. If anyone steals it, we will find out who it is.”
A man takes out a gun hidden in his ankle and puts it in a plastic bag. As the grumbling police officers climb up to the rooftop, searchlights can be seen illuminating the dark sky.
“Airship?”
“Was there something like that?”
It was a giant airship.
“Didn’t the Army say they were giving up on development?”
“He suddenly told me to come up to the rooftop, and what is this?”
And the inspection began.
[You can spit here.]
“Is this saliva?”
Spitting into an empty paper cup? Despite Rick’s puzzled gaze, the woman in the hazmat suit didn’t move at all.
[yes.]
I asked what kind of test it was, but was met with unspoken pressure to spit into a paper cup.
‘What are you trying to do?’
Rick didn’t see any reagents. No matter how he looked at it, it was just a white paper cup. He just had to spit in it?
Kaak- Whew-
I spat into a paper cup, but nothing happened.
[Thank you for your hard work. You can go down.]
It’s not like they’re making people spin around, so why don’t they just hand out paper cups and tell everyone to spit in them?
The bullying was already fierce. Rick was annoyed by being shot in the eye and hearing nonsense about the Manhunter, but at the moment when he was about to say something, Ardo caught his eye.
And the white paper cup that Ardo had spat in turned red. Ardo looked embarrassed, and the Homeland Security agent next to him aimed his gun at him.
“Hey, what’s going on here?”
[Follow the controls.]
“What kind of test is it?”
[Warning: Get on your knees and put your hands on your head.]
“What is that thing that turned red?”
Clank-
Ardo, who had become quiet at the sound of loading, was dragged to one side. Starting with him, people with white paper cups dyed red began to come out one by one.
Rick, being a veteran, intuitively knew what they had in common: manhunters, cannibals. And they seemed to know it as well as he did.
“Put the gun down. Put the gun away!”
“Are you going to shoot? Are you going to shoot?”
“What did we do wrong to be like this?”
“You don’t have to tell me what happened!”
Suddenly, those who rebelled. And among the police officers lined up for inspection, those who sympathized began to emerge.
“Why is the Department of Homeland Security doing this to the NYPD?”
“Director. Where is the director?”
Several executives who had been waiting for the inspection shouted for the director. In an instant, the rooftop became chaotic.
bang!
Tadadang!
The police were agitated even after gunshots rang out. It was more like, ‘If you’re going to shoot, shoot.’ than, ‘If you shoot, can you handle the consequences?’ Rick thought he had to get out of this mess for now.
And that was a bit late in the decision. The door leading down was already firmly locked. The atmosphere was gradually becoming more and more sinister.
A warning broadcast rang out from the airship floating in the sky.
[Everyone, get down.]
Then the airship’s cargo bay began to open. A voice came from the speaker. A woman’s voice.
[Everyone, get down.]
[Those who are not prostrate. Just attack those who are noisy.]
Caw!
[You know? What he’s looking at?]
Kaaaak–
Thud-
Large crows poured out of the airship’s cargo bay, circled the sky, and then began to descend to the rooftop.
Kaaa …
“Eww! What is this!”
“Head. Head!”
“Take it off!”
“Ahhh. My eyes! My face!”
“Kyaaaaak. Get down.”
People could not help but gape at the sight of the crows targeting only those who had incited them and those who had violently rebelled.
“oh my god.”
“JES···.”
“What the···.”
“Holy Sh···.”
Those who could not withstand the crows’ vicious and persistent attacks began to fall to the ground.
[Draw out those marked by crows.]
As we tried to pick out those with wounds on their faces and heads, they went berserk.
“Eww! Run away!”
“Stay on the wall. Climb down the wall!”
There were many people who tried to climb down by clinging to the outer walls of the building, and those who tried to lower the ladder, but there was no way to avoid the crow. They either fell to the ground or fell with the ladder, turning into stains on the ground.
Dan Brown, who watched the scene on the screen, was slightly impressed. The idea of the diagnostic kit was good, but the way the work was done was also good.
‘There was a reason you chose the rooftop of the building.’
Whether jumping from the rooftop or climbing the wall, there was no way to avoid the crow. If it had been done in an empty space, it would have escaped through the barrier, and if it had only handed over the diagnostic kit without directly dealing with it, it would have only heightened its alertness.
Director Den Brown’s eyes turned to another monitor.
A plan to strike simultaneously so that they cannot respond. It was an operation that was easy to think about, but not easy to execute.
The military units stationed near New York were taken over by his cousin, General Gilbert, the New York Police Department was taken over by Nanae Ono and the crows, and Vladimir Kalin and the crows were to capture the mayor and the council members.
It was impossible to root them out all at once. That’s the nature of a plague. But once you get rid of one, the next will be easier.

A swaying shadow descends upon the mayor’s party in New York.
‘As expected of them.’
The cannibalistic aura was everywhere. Not only the security guards guarding the party, but also the cooks, waiters, and waitresses preparing the party food, and at least 10% of the people at the party were cannibals.
Beep-
The head-up displays (HUDs) flashed on and off, signaling the start of a simultaneous operation. Black vans arrived and Homeland Security agents swarmed the party.
“What is this?”
“We will implement emergency quarantine procedures.”
In an emergency, the Department of Homeland Security had the authority to implement emergency procedures, but it was so ineffective that the mayor and others tried to ignore it.
But after the Homeland Security agents revealed that they were prepared for a shootout, the party was left in an uproar.
“Please follow the instructions from now on.”
As tests continued, the testing kits turned red and people began to be quarantined, the mayor and several others left the area.
Thud- Maru, who had come down from the tree, followed the ones who were avoiding the spot.
“Call Colonel Pierce. It’s an emergency.”
“I’m not answering the phone.”
“Has there been any report from the police?”
“There wasn’t any.”
“Can’t you contact me either?”
“······.”
“So didn’t you say that the police chief should do something first?”
“What are you going to do after you messed with my wife and made such a fuss?”
“Who knew Homeland Security would move this quickly?”
“We must negotiate now.”
“If they had any intention of negotiating, would they have mobilized heavily armed agents?”
“Let’s fight first.”
bang!
The tree with the scar on it shook violently.
“Shut up. It seems like everyone is having trouble understanding the situation. From now on, do as I say.”
Found it.
Maru, who had been hiding, gripped the handle of the sword tightly.
It’s her. The commanding entity.
