Rust - Chapter 5

Rust [RUST]-5
Maru unconsciously raised his head and looked at the ceiling, feeling something subtle.
A crude CCTV was attached to the workbench where Maru was working. The angle of the CCTV was pointed exactly in the direction where the ribs were being removed.
There were no other CCTVs. So, they are only recording this workbench.
Heart pounding
A heart that is trembling with anxiety.
My heart was pounding so hard it felt like it was going to burst out of my throat.
‘Calm down.’
Suddenly, I started to sweat coldly. The last time I felt this anxious was when my father’s business failed and right before I got into a car accident during a school trip in middle school.
‘Oh my gosh- what is it? Why are you doing this?’
Maru gently placed the ribs he had tapped into a blue colander. With an expression of ‘I don’t know anything,’ he walked towards the workbench he had been working on. Even with those few short steps, cold sweat soaked his face and back.
Only after leaving the CCTV angle did Maru let out a deep sigh and wiped the cold sweat running down his face with a towel.
My mind was complicated. The discomfort I felt when I took off the ribs. It was the feeling I had when I took off the part of the ribs that was attached with edible glue.
So, slightly remove the ribs and cut the rib bones. Attach the cut rib bones and then attach the rib bones that were removed back on top of them.
It was almost impossible for the average person to tell the difference between the removed and reattached ribs with the naked eye.
Why did they do such a troublesome thing? They didn’t just attach a part other than the ribs, but they also attached the removed ribs back in the same place.
To cover up the scars of cut ribs?
So you’re digging into the ribs to hide something?
X-rays show the ribs as white. Even if you put something inside the ribs, it will still show up as white.
What if that something is a drug?
“Fuck-”
Reporting? This is Japan. And I haven’t even received a work visa yet. A foreign worker who works on a tourist visa without a work visa reports? And that illegal foreign worker is Korean? Thinking about the Japanese administrative power and anti-Korean atmosphere I saw during the Olympics, I had no answer.
There is no evidence. To get evidence, you have to open the attached ribs, and it was crazy to open the attached ribs while the CCTV was recording.
‘It’s fucking intertwined.’
What if it was drugs? Didn’t World Livestock, our partner, know about it? If they knew about it? Why did they send me?
Whatever the reason, I had to get out.
After finishing his overtime work at 10 o’clock, Maru went straight to his dorm.
I couldn’t even think about the cold beer or chicken skewers I bought at the convenience store every day after work. My mind was full of only thoughts about what to do.
I didn’t know that maybe this was all a delusion.
I didn’t know that he was just making a fuss over the sight of a rib being soaked in water.
‘What the hell – Are you saying that even after seeing it with your own eyes? Don’t turn it into a happy circuit.’
Coolly.
Assuming the worst, Maru was now working for a company associated with a drug syndicate.
‘Is there a reason why it keeps spinning like this?’
If you pay your salary on time, you won’t have any doubts.
I have no doubts about the work I do to make myself tired.
If the tail gets caught, just remove it and that’s it.
If you just classify them as foreign workers who entered the country on a tourist visa, started working, and ran away, that’s it.
Let’s think about it in extreme terms, only really extreme situations come to mind.
Even if this was all a delusion, the intensity of working overtime and on holidays was hard to bear.
Anyway, one thing is certain.
Escaping was the answer.
therefore
‘Let’s go.’
First, I had to find a way to get to Korea.
=====
=====
It was early October, and Maru was living in fear, dreaming of escaping.
Even in early October, Japan continued to experience abnormally high temperatures, with daytime highs reaching 29-30 degrees Celsius.
Earthquakes of magnitude 5 to 6 have been felt up and down the eastern Kanto region of Japan’s Honshu, off the coast of Hokkaido, off the coast of Fukushima, and near Chiba.
Following last year, reports poured in from residents near Tokyo Bay of a strange smell.
On the Internet, there were comments saying that it smelled like Odaiba’s sewage or rotten water, along with stories that it was a precursor to a major earthquake.
There was a big earthquake last year, so some people are asking if there will be a big earthquake this year too.
People who say that it’s scary to see earthquakes keep occurring so frequently, even though the Olympics were a total failure.
There is even anti-Korean sentiment that says it is all Korea’s fault.
Maru shuddered as he browsed the Internet. A magnitude 5.1 earthquake struck the waters off Tokyo, and it was Maru’s first time experiencing an earthquake. It was an earthquake in the sea, so it was about a magnitude 3.8 to 4.0 in Tokyo, but even that was scary.
The workbench shook, the fixed meats bounced back and forth, and the building creaked.
Maru, who had already been thinking about escaping from Japan, searched frantically for a way to return after the earthquake.
He kept calling his manager to tell him that he wanted to go back to Korea. He even called him three times a day, which was so extreme. The manager kept telling him to stay for another month and come back, but Maru was at his limit mentally.
‘This is driving me crazy. Seriously.’
At first, Yamazuki made me do it a few times, but now he was openly making me do rib work. And every time he did it, I could see the fine cracks where the ribs were cut and reattached.
The three Japanese old men had been coming one at a time to watch Maru work or monitor him.
“Oh, my gosh, you’re a surprise. I told you not to come in so quietly while I’m working. What if you’re surprised and the knife falls out?”
When I was working overtime and had to cut off the ribs and separate the rib bones, every nerve in my body would get on edge. My nerves were so sensitive that if someone touched me without making a sound while I was working, I would stab them with the knife I was holding.
“It’s because it’s so interesting. If you just lightly tap it, the flesh comes off. You’re a master. You’re twenty-four? Oh, in Korean, twenty-three?”
When the earthquake struck last time, I saw a gun stuck in the waist of a person who was running out of the building in a hurry. That was the moment when Maru became certain that this company was a yakuza company.
Japan was also one of the countries that had strict measures against guns. It is said that guns would pour out every time you raided a yakuza office, but it was still not a country where you could see real guns often.
But the fact that he had a pistol hidden in his waistband meant that there was something fishy going on in this livestock farm.
‘Just hold on a little longer, just a little longer’
Maru spent almost four weeks planning his escape. He contacted Ki-sun and made a basic plan to go with her when she entered Japan and left.
Ki-soon whined about how difficult it was to get a tourist visa. It took a month just to get the visa, and upon entering Japan, he had to be quarantined for two weeks. Maru realized that World Livestock had already started working there.
Maru came from Japan and started working right after entering the accommodation without a 14-day quarantine. I don’t know where it all started and ended, but it would be over by tomorrow.
Ki-soon’s quarantine ends tomorrow, Saturday. Since Ki-soon had already booked a flight, she could go as soon as Maru left.
“Oh really- Mr. Morino, if you do that you’ll be in big trouble. Go back. Back. Or come over here to the side.”
Maru hid his complicated feelings and went along with Morino’s whining.
“Well, that’s what it is.”
Morino moved to the side of Maru’s workbench. At that moment, the building began to vibrate, accompanied by the sound of it twisting.
Ddddddd
Morino, who was coming up next to the workbench, flailed his arms and hit the blue colander. The ribs, well-cut, spilled out onto the workbench.
Right away.
With a tick-like sound, the attached ribs fell off, and white crystals poured out from within the ribs.
Ddddddd
Squeak
The part connected to the H beam screamed.
Morino’s eyes shook like the shaking building.
Translucent grains pouring out of the burst ribs and the eyes darting back and forth. The murderous intent quickly seeping into the eyes. The hands moving to the back of the waist.
Maru’s heart pounded as if it was going to burst, and he saw all of that clearly.
The moment Morino’s hand completely returned to his waist, Maru stabbed Morino’s right shoulder joint with the knife he was holding. It was an instinctive movement that followed the thought of having to prevent him from grabbing the pistol on his waist.
nice-
Before the Japanese man could even let out a “k-” sound, the knife that had stabbed his shoulder joint shot up past his collarbone, grazing the carotid artery in his neck.
Morino’s hand, which had been behind his back, came up to block the carotid artery in his neck. Maru reflexively thrust the knife between Morino’s ribs and into his liver, then pulled it out.
In less than ten seconds, Morino, who had been struggling with his neck clenched, became quiet.
Ddudduk-
······
Heart pounding
Heart pounding
“Fuck. Fuck. Fuck. F**k!”
Just one day. If only it had passed quietly for just one day, I would have fled to Korea. The earthquake that shook for a little over 10 seconds began to slowly subside.
What should I do?
I killed a person.
A heart that is beating like crazy.
My heart feels like it’s going to burst.
Short of breath.
A strewn corpse.
What was spilled was probably drugs.
Even in the midst of the confusion, Maru’s head was spinning. Let’s blow it up with the drug case. First, blow it up with an anonymous tip, and then erase the CCTV footage. Ah! And find the passport that was taken to be changed to a work visa.
If only the CCTV had been erased, it could have been seen as a fight between yakuza. If drugs were found, it would have been even more so, and if we were lucky, we could have linked it to Korea’s World Livestock at once.
‘Me? What’s my alibi?’
“Fuck.”
First of all, he had to move quickly. As long as there was no decisive evidence, he had to move. Maru stomped on the ribs that were rolling on the floor.
The part that was connected burst with a cracking sound, sending translucent particles flying in all directions. After crushing four or five ribs, I found a pistol in Morino’s waistband.
Beretta and two extra magazines. Fingerprints won’t be a problem since I’m wearing gloves anyway. Sanitary hat, apron, and work boots.
good.
Maru headed to the office through the still slightly shaking hallway. The middle drawer of the second desk. I saw him put the documents and visas in there. If he hadn’t moved it, it would have been there.
If it’s not there, the safe is behind the sofa. The CCTV is in the air conditioning room next to the pantry.
I have to work overtime. Will Yamatsuki be there?
Hook hook
Heart pounding
I held back my heavy breathing and grabbed the office doorknob. The moment I was about to turn the doorknob, Maru raised his head at a subtle feeling. The CCTV was facing the office entrance.
What if someone saw what happened in the workshop? Did they see the earthquake? The last time, the CCTV malfunctioned due to the earthquake. So, there is no need to be aware of the CCTV.
Contrary to expectations, Maru released the safety and gripped the Beretta tightly.
Then he bent down and opened the door wide.
Bang! Bang!
As soon as I opened the door, bullets poured into my head!
Maru rolled forward with his back bent deeply, then pulled the trigger of his Beretta gun repeatedly toward the standing figure.
Ta-da-da ta-ta-tang!
The slide rocked back and forth, spewing acrid smoke.
Ting- tting- The empty cartridge fell to the floor with a metallic clank.
It’s a matter of the account.
