Rust - Chapter 63

RUST-63
Maru walked quietly around the deck.
The main deck and the salon were connected without steps, so there was no inconvenience in the movement. The salon was quite spacious, perhaps because it was a catamaran or a custom yacht. If you looked up to the cockpit on the third floor, it looked like the size of an average apartment. The ship drifted south, riding the wind.
I thought of the bodyguard who had disappeared into the corner. How did she disappear in such a short time? Was it magic? There were more tricks that took advantage of the weaknesses in perception than I thought. Even so, it was surprising.
“What are you thinking about?”
Ki-soon said, rubbing her eyes. If you’re sleepy, go to sleep. I heard that the autopilot has some kind of artificial intelligence machine and a robot or something.
“But if you want to sail at night, you need to have people awake. Small boats weighing less than 2 tons often don’t have identification devices or GPS-linked positioning devices, so if you’re not careful, an accident can happen.”
It was true that it was a sea area with many fishing boats, so it was right to proceed cautiously. It was late at night or early in the morning, so I left the marina when it was so dark that the Coast Guard would have checked at least once, but Charlotte’s name in Busan lived up to its name.
“Oh, that’s right. I saw the news earlier and I think I’ll have to change direction completely. The plan was to go straight to Tsushima, then Kyushu, across the Kanmon Strait, and around the Seto Inland Sea, but it was going to be really difficult.”
The news was that the Kanmon Strait and the Seto Inland Sea were in shambles. It was an already complicated area, and the Japan Coast Guard was working hard to maintain order.
When the Coast Guard let go due to the earthquake, ships collided with each other, crashed into floating debris, collided with debris, tried to avoid debris and crashed again, and even the small yachts were swept away by the strong current.
“First, let’s go around a bit to be safe. Go around southern Kyushu… Ah- Maruya, is that a badge?”
Ki-sun pointed to the dark sea beyond. There were certainly many small lights floating around.
“There are a bunch of fishing boats here at this hour? This is strong.”
Ki-sun immediately contacted the Coast Guard. Ki-sun told the Coast Guard where he was and slowed down and changed direction. Small fishing boats slowly gathered from the southern sea. They looked like small fireflies moving together.
After 20~30 minutes, several ships with Coast Guard markings headed in that direction. The ships were tangled together, and the sea became chaotic as if a traffic accident had occurred.
[··· Thank you for your report. Have a nice voyage.]
“Yes. Thank you for your hard work.”
Haegyeong and Gisun ended their communication.
“What happened?”
“They said all those ships came from Japan.”
“All those fishing boats?”
“Yes. Large yachts have identification numbers on them and are easily detected by radar, so they can’t come to Korea. So they come to Korea on fishing boats at night.”
Is this real? What the hell happened yesterday?
“You said that the Kyushu volcano erupted. It spewed ash and smoke so high that it created a no-fly zone where airplanes could not fly across the entire Kyushu area and parts of western Honshu. As airplanes were completely grounded, the number of Japanese people trying to evacuate to Korea suddenly skyrocketed.”
“Isn’t that what everyone says, that they want to stay somewhere safe? It’s not like everyone in Japan is going to die, right? When you think of Tokyo, it seems like it would be right to run away.”
But why Korea instead of Hokkaido or Okinawa? Northern Honshu, Hokkaido, and Okinawa are no problem. Hokkaido is actually about the same size as Korea. I guess I can just go there.
“That’s true, but right now, with the coronavirus pandemic overlapping, there’s chaos due to a special variant virus from Japan.
“They are trying to leave Japan because they think Japan is dangerous.”
If it’s a special mutation, how dangerous is it?
“Some people in our country are wondering if this is a radioactive mutation from Japan? Isn’t Japan trying to make a biochemical weapon using the coronavirus? Anyway, public opinion and the political world are going crazy. Above all, there is a realistic problem. How are the Japanese people being quarantined and observed? This is fucked up.”
The most effective way is to block them from crossing, but you can’t stop civilians from coming in with force. The Coast Guard is somehow holding it back, but there are rumors that the Navy will be deployed if they can’t hold out.
While Maru and Gisun were chatting away, a scratching sound was heard from the front of the ship.
Tung-geuggeuggeuk-
Maru raised a finger and put it to his lips. Kisun nodded quickly. Thump! Thump! He stamped his foot twice and pressed the bell. The room on the first floor vibrated. I sent the signal, so everyone should get ready.
I wish it was just something like a fish trap or a buoy···.
The sound of scraping metal and the sound of being pushed or dragged, followed by a creaking sound, suddenly stopped in the middle of the ship.
And then there was the sound of something hanging. It was a person. Maru grabbed the handle of the Bowie knife. Ki-soon quietly shook his head from side to side.
‘What are you talking about? You want us to just leave those guys boarding the ship in the middle of the night?’
As Maru spoke with his eyes, Ki-sun turned his head, looked around, and shook his head at Maru again.
‘You couldn’t find that woman earlier. She’s still nowhere to be seen.’
So, what Gi-sun meant was to wait and see until the woman intervened. Maru nodded quickly.
[Now the big ship. Is it ours?]
[Okay, then go up first.]
Japanese? But the content is strange? Maru looked at Ki-sun. Ki-sun also looked troubled as to what this meant.
Keuggeuggeuk!
There was a noise not only from the right bow, but also from the left bow. It was the sound of at least two small boats hanging on either side of the catamaran. A squeak – the sound of people being dragged up.
They all came up and started pulling up the people below.
[Hurry up, hurry up. Be quiet. It’s a big ship, so there might be a lot of people on it.]
[Subdue them as planned. Don’t hesitate. If necessary, just throw them into the sea.]
Ki-sun’s expression turned sour. Isn’t he a pirate? Maru took out his Bowie knife. He felt someone approaching the helm station. Ki-sun shook his head.
If that’s the case, Maru hid the hand holding the knife behind his back and moved to the corner.
[Don’t move. Get on the floor.]
The man with the spear gun shouted at Ki-sun, who was sitting in the cockpit, while aiming the gun at him. Ki-sun calmly raised both hands and got up from the cockpit and fell to the floor…
Kkwaak!
As screams erupted outside, the person who had aimed the harpoon gun at Ki-sun was about to pull the trigger,
Swish!
My arm was cut off. I should have screamed.
Swish!
The head that had floated up couldn’t make a sound. Heh- Ki-soon, who was seeing such a sight for the first time, opened his mouth.
“Get a grip! Don’t come out and stay in the corner. I’ll clean up a bit and come back, and if that woman comes in here, don’t let her leave.”
Before even hearing Gi-sun’s answer, Maru flew out of the cockpit. Outside the cockpit, the cold autumn sea was seething with murderous intent and heat, making it pale in comparison.
Haa- Maru took a deep breath and the cold air filled his lungs. Memories of fighting in the smokescreen rushed back for a moment.
Hoo- The heated air inside was exhaled like steam. White, cloudy breath rose like smoke.
Ta-da-dak – A short stomping sound followed, and a shot was fired at the man swinging his gun from side to side on the upper left deck.
Hick
He turns his gun towards the floor, screaming strangely, but it’s too late.
Slow. Slow.
Slow reaction. Slow movement. Should have pulled the trigger first.
A long, low, slicing sound. The Bowie knife cut diagonally into the s/n.
Boom! Before blood could splatter everywhere, I pushed the torso out of the boat. The upper and lower bodies of a man parting ways in the dark autumn sea.
Heeeeek!
The sound of compressed gas exploding, accompanied by a strange noise. Maru shook the Bowie knife as he felt it.
Peeing! Teeing!
The harpoon that had been fired caught the Bowie knife and sparked. Feeling the heavy repulsion in his hand, Maru threw the Bowie knife he was holding in the sidearm pitcher’s stance.
The Bowie knife flew with a boomerang sound, severing the head of the man with the spear gun and landing outside the salon.
Srrrrring-srrrrring-
The old man’s sword on his waist was pulled out and he started to whine. Chiiiiiing – the sound of the sword harmonized with the sound of the waves.
Slow, everything was slow. Slower than the drug dealers, slower than Executive Director Choi and his direct subordinates. What on earth do you believe in, pirating?
The energy felt on the left was a total of 6 people. Since I eliminated 3 people, there were 3 more left, and on the right there were 7 people, no, 10 if you include the kid.
Even with all this crap, there’s no way a bodyguard woman is still there, right?
Dadadak- deck. Deck. He stepped on the pedal repeatedly to accelerate, then stepped on the cockpit window and bounced up.
The floor suddenly flew up to the second floor and extended the old man’s sword. The woman who was trying to thrust a .38 caliber revolver down from above became a light skewer.
Phew! Phew!
Before the skewer turned into a half-boiled egg and poured down onto the second floor, Maru wrapped around the woman’s waist and threw her. The woman flew out of the ship.
Jeeeeing!
A very faint electrical noise? A spark? That kind of feeling you get when you turn on a radio. Maru dug into the corner of the second floor.
Peek- The air was thinly sliced with a slicing sound. Paching- Small LED elements were shattered. The small woman inside had a sullen look in her eyes and swept away the slashes on the floor with her dagger.
What? What do you want me to do?
If you were hiding.
Maru was just doing it coolly. If it was like that, how would we know if they were friends or enemies? Shouldn’t he have actively expressed his intentions or cleared the second floor so that they wouldn’t have to come up?
The dagger deflected Maru’s sword stroke. The bodyguard’s empty hand reached for the thigh holster.
Really? Really?
Maru said with his eyes.
I promised to protect him, but I never promised to tolerate the bodyguards’ gunfire. As Maru applied force, the blade reacted as if it were alive.
The blade that had been deflected by the dagger rebounded in a V shape, leaving a deep memory on the woman’s face. Just before a deep expression appeared on the small woman’s expressionless face, a voice was heard.
“Ayako Natsume.”
Roll. Roll. Knock-
The little girl rolled over backwards, neither on her back nor on her head, and then rolled over next to the stand-in and stood up.
I’m not a professional gymnast or anything… But I’m fast. When did I roll like that? I was amazed even while watching.
“It looks too deep.”
Hmm- the cut looked deep? That’s what I mean. That’s amazing.
“I remember that I was supposed to protect President Shim, but I never agreed to get shot by the bodyguards.”
“But isn’t it too much to stab a woman in the face?”
Maru answered with a snicker.
“Is it okay if a woman gets shot? Whether it’s a man or a woman, if you get shot, you die. You’ve had a hard life, so it’s not okay to get shot, right?”
The woman nodded, stroking the ends of her long hair.
“There was a misunderstanding because Natsume said he wanted to see Maru-san’s skills with his own eyes. Natsume will apologize for that.”
At those words, the little woman next to him bowed.
“It may be meant as an apology, but it would be easier if you knew Natsume’s skills in the future. Natsume, go and clean up the area below. Maru-san, this way.”
As soon as he finished speaking, a small woman pulled out a silenced pistol and a diver’s knife and jumped from the second floor to the first.
One side of the second floor, where the deck of the first floor was clearly visible. President Shim and Maru watched Natsume’s movements. The small woman moved with her center of gravity as low as possible. Her footsteps were completely inaudible, buried in the sound of the waves.
Optical camouflage? Even without that, it was an excellent stealth maneuver. The small woman, moving slowly with her center of gravity lowered, approached the people on the first floor without a sound. The people who discovered Natsume when she was about 5-6 meters closer threatened her with a spear gun and a shotgun.
Thump! Thump!
Natsume was threatening and blatant, shooting his pistol straight ahead. He wasn’t aiming for the head, chest, or joints like Kim Yang. He was just blatantly shooting. Surely he wasn’t calling this skill? Was he trying to hide his skill?
Five or six out of ten people collapsed instantly, and the few who survived fell face down, hugging their children, as soon as they heard the gunshots.
‘There’s nothing to see.’
The pirates and the naval, and the people who came up on the left were much better. The fact that they sent a woman with a pistol to the second floor. The fact that they tried to take control of the control room. The fact that they were in a formation where they could watch each other’s backs. The weapons were also quite good. While Maru was thinking about that, he said, “Hmm-”
Natsume quickly reloaded his magazine and shot the back of the heads of the people and children who were lying down. It happened before he had time to say, “Ah!”
The cockpit door opened wide and Ki-sun jumped out.
