Rust - Chapter 933

RUST -933
A loud siren sound echoed across the airport. The noise was short-lived, and after about 20 seconds, the siren suddenly stopped.
‘What? If it was meant to be a warning, it would have kept ringing?’
There were no searchlights or separate searches of the coastline, so the Ripper suit’s hiding power was not compromised.
Maru, who had left the shoreline, headed towards a steep terrain like a cliff. He judged that there wouldn’t be many detection sensors if the terrain was rough.
As expected, there were surveillance cameras and detection sensors scattered here and there. They weren’t haphazardly placed, but there were far fewer of them than on a convenient beach for landing.
Maru climbed the cliff and jumped onto the tree at the end, avoiding the range of the detection sensors on the ground.
Looking at the airfield from the treetops, seagulls were gathered. The seagulls that had barely retreated and the seagulls that were waiting were making a lot of noise and squawking.
‘It wasn’t meant as a warning. Was it an emergency call signal?’
Most of the retreating seagulls were in bad condition. From their croaking sounds to their severely plucked feathers here and there, it seemed like they were lucky to have returned alive.
A flock of seagulls soared into the sky, filling the wide airfield. They were headed in the direction of the flock of crows, supply ships, and combat airships of the Holy Kingdom.
‘Do you think this place hasn’t been discovered yet?’
Perhaps that was the case. Sending away so many unilaterally beaten seagulls would have been good if it could stop the crows from pursuing them, or at least make them go to the other side so that the island would not be discovered.
Pak- The wooden and wooden floors led to the hangars lined up on one side of the airfield. The hangars were noticeably large compared to the size of the airfield.
‘That’s strange.’
The hangar, which was not locked with a key or lock, had several floors of space. Judging from the nests placed in the layers, it seemed to be a place where seagulls lived.
‘nest?’
A nest means there are chicks or eggs. There were six hangars with nests, and seven hangars that were just divided into floors and had no nests.
A whopping thirteen large hangars were the seagull facilities. It was estimated to be in the tens of thousands, and if you include the hangars where the nests were located, it was quite a large number.
‘The fact that they even gave birth to chicks means that there is a means to control the seagulls. I guess there must be a person or facility controlling the seagulls not far away.’
On one side of the row of large hangars was a smaller building. Unlike the open hangars that allowed the seagulls to easily come and go, this building had a large closed door.
The building’s shape looked similar to a hangar on the outside, but Maru’s keen eye did not miss the difference.
There was a door with a CCTV and a sensor. This meant that the building needed security. Maru headed to the side of the building where there were no sensors.
Slurp-
As I broke through the side of the building with Nuclipse, who had been consistently maintaining ‘I am a sword’, ‘I am just a sword’, I was surprised to see that it was packed with various equipment.
bingo.
‘Experimental equipment?’
A sight of various bird and fish specimens, including seagulls, preserved in containers. There was even a half-dismembered experimental specimen that was kept from dying.
Because it was a laboratory made of tempered glass, it was structured so that everything that was going on inside could be observed from the outside.
Knock knock knock-
A terrified seagull is dragged into a transparent laboratory, placed on a laboratory bench and dismembered.
The seagull, whose feathers were removed in an instant and whose chest was opened, neither died nor fainted even though one of its lungs was removed.
The researcher, who was cutting open a lung and magnifying it under a microscope, moved his lips. It seemed like he was reporting to someone.
As I carefully cut through a corner of the glass lab with my Nuclipse, the researcher’s voice came out. A high-pitched voice.
“···We were pushed back by the crows. We should consider it as losing the right to serve.”
[——–]
“They put a gas mask on the crow.”
[——–]
“Even regular volcanic ash and dust are dangerous, but isn’t that also the case?”
[——–]
Does the volcanic ash and dust spreading around Tokyo mean that it is not normal? The purification tanks were strangely clogged quickly.
“It’s not something we can handle in numbers. How can we stop the crows from firing missiles? If this place is discovered, we’ll be bombed unilaterally.”
[——–]
The researcher began nervously dismembering the still-living seagull. The seagull blinked and shook its head from side to side, still alive, even as its internal organs were completely ripped out.
“That’s why. Sending all the seagulls now is useless. It would be more realistic to withdraw them all now.”
[——–]
The call seemed to have ended badly, and the researcher walked out of the transparent lab. A rippling space followed behind him.
‧
‧
‧
The transparent space was more tiring than I thought. It meant that I could see who was walking around, where they were going, and what they were doing from the center.
It’s not like there aren’t surveillance cameras. Not only are there CCTVs without blind spots, but there’s also a transparent open environment. The irony is that security is tighter because there’s not even a speck of privacy.
If even the toilet was transparent, it would have been a penalty, but since it became opaque when you relieve yourself, I guess you could say that you kept to the minimum.
At first, I was extremely sensitive and couldn’t even sleep, but humans are animals that can adapt to this kind of environment.
However, as time passed, it was inevitable that I would feel skeptical. The researcher’s human rights were like a dog’s, and the research topic was like that, with conscience and morality thrown away.
It was a start, and everyone was excited by the promise of a free research environment without regulations, but it didn’t take long for them to realize that the absence of regulations meant the absence of conscience, morality, and even the bare minimum of regulation.
‘The opportunity is now.’
This might be the last chance to remove the self-destruct device embedded in his head and escape. Just as this side was controlling the seagull, the other side was controlling the crow.
‘I was pushed back unilaterally.’
Looking at the information extracted from the seagull’s brain, there was no chance of winning even if this side had more numbers. Is there no way to stop the missiles they are firing right now?
They were beaten unilaterally from a distance, but were also pushed back in close combat. Seagulls had webbed feet, so their attack power was weaker than that of crows.
The only advantage they had was a wide operational radius and cruising speed. The enemy crows had undergone some kind of mutation that gave them an extremely long cruising range and fast speed.
It was hard to understand what he was trying to do when he told them to send a seagull, even though it was obvious that he wouldn’t be able to stop it even if he came back from the dead.
Let’s say that he sent the seagull. When I saw him say that he would keep it even though it was the time to organize and leave while the seagull was being consumed, only one word came to mind.
“You idiots.”
The researcher, who was muttering softly, habitually turned his head from side to side. This scene and his mutterings were probably recorded anyway.
As the thought of being deceived by sweet words about a new world and a new human race crossed his mind, the researcher desperately tried to think of something else.
Research results on the seagull’s lungs. Samples of the monster known as the immortal monster. Several experiments will begin once a large number of monster samples are obtained from the giant sinkhole that appeared in Tokyo.
The moment when the researcher lets out a deep sigh before the thoughts that popped into his head are censored and pushed aside with other thoughts.
Phew-
I turned my head back as the blade pierced through my chest. I couldn’t see anything, but I was sure there was something there.
Before the researcher could say anything, the blade that had been stabbing him moved.
Kujik-
The blade that broke the ribs and stabbed the heart rotated 90 degrees, completely destroying the heart. The researcher unconsciously grabbed the blade, but it was meaningless.
This was because the blade that split the heart rose vertically upward, cutting left and right from the chest to the head.
Iron-pudeok-
Maru immediately checked the researcher’s head, which was split in two.
Before the self-destruct device embedded between the left and right brains exploded, Maru immediately cut off the researcher’s head and placed it in a preservation container.
We’ve secured the head of a researcher who seems to know a lot about things, so our first objective has been achieved. The next question is where the guys giving the orders are.
The CCTV hanging from the ceiling was facing inside the transparent private room, but the siren was not sounding.
‘As expected. It wasn’t being monitored in real time.’
Perhaps they are recording. Or perhaps the personnel in charge of surveillance are distracted.
Maru placed the headless body on a cot and made a pile with pillows and blankets. The body must have been floating in the air, but judging by the silence, it was as expected.
Tick- tirick-
After adjusting the nuclear grenade timer, Maru, who had been placed inside the bed mattress, immediately came out. A map and location information appeared as arrows on the helmet’s HUD (Head-Up Display).
‘If there’s a tall guy, he’s probably in a bunker or a high-rise building.’
If the upper room was in a bunker, it would be difficult to find right away, and the hotel needed to be checked.
The distance from the airport to the city center where the hotel is is about 1.5km. There must be detection sensors or CCTVs on the road, so even if you avoid the detection sensors and take the mountain path, you can get there in 5~6 minutes, so it was worth a try.
‧
The view of the city from a high place was very different from the old image that appeared on the HUD. Unlike the past, when it was a typical fishing village and tourist attraction, it was a completely new city.
Just like the airport, the port was also hard to find in its original form. There were almost no fishing boats in the port, but mostly warships. Submarines, speedboats, and even new Aegis ships were anchored, making it look like a military port.
The buildings near the port were not very tall, but they all looked newly built. The roads were the same. The roads stretched out in a grid pattern and were wide.
‘Where the school used to be, there are now factories. There are anti-aircraft guns and surface-to-air missile launchers everywhere?’
It is said that an entire island was destroyed. It was considered impossible to tear down and develop it on this scale without government permission.
‘Were you preparing before the disaster occurred?’
What is this island?
The actions of the provisional government were also strange. If there were such proper facilities, it would have been natural to create a provisional government here. However, the provisional government was created on the mainland, held out, and then simply collapsed.
‘You didn’t know about this place?’
The story is that the people who created the provisional government didn’t know about this place. That means there was strong information control.
So, going back to the beginning, we have to assume that the Japanese government was involved, or at least the Japanese military was involved.
That was certainly the case when you look at the surface-to-air missiles, anti-aircraft guns, and the submarines, speedboats, and destroyers anchored in the harbor.
They were not a mere minority.
‧
Tsk-
Who would have thought there would be more than five hotels on this small island?
Even each hotel was equipped with a lot of detection sensors and CCTVs.
The fact that the area around the hotel was brightly lit and that even the guards were heavily armed meant that the people staying at the hotel were of fairly high status.
If I had time, I would have figured out the guards’ shift change time or figured out the location of the detection sensors to perfectly infiltrate, but I didn’t have time for that.
I didn’t know when the lab wall would be breached and the researcher’s body would be discovered. If I use the Garden of Death, the information would be lost, so I had to go in alive.
Maru, who clicked her tongue slightly, targeted the hotel closest to the airport. It was probably because there was a flock of seagulls there, or because the airfield was lightly armed.
Dadadak-
The swaying space ran straight through the bright garden.
Maru landed on the hotel’s outer wall after hearing the sound of branches snapping and bending. The horizontal acceleration of the leap transformed the kinetic energy into vertical energy.
The new tactical boots have a footstep that seems to grab onto a wall.
In an instant, Maru’s sight, which had come upon the penthouse on the 8th floor of the hotel building, was of people enjoying a party.
