The Magician’s Memorial - Chapter 103

Episode 103
Quilbian moved after the salt-filled Nak, recalling a conversation he had once had with Winte.
“I guess goblins can go outside the realm of the two-faced? It seems possible, seeing as they can catch humans with things like will-o’-the-wisps.”
“Once the erosion begins, the border will collapse, and then the goblins will be free to come and go. But not now. The ones I taught you haven’t gone outside yet. At least not as far as I know.”
“is it so?”
“You can move between the two realms, but it’s still too early to step into the designer’s world. Of course, there may be some exceptions.”
“If there is an exception… … .”
“A lucky guy who crosses the broken boundary. As I said before, this world is full of errors. It’s not strange if something happens.”
“The monsters might get over it before the erosion even starts. If we’re unlucky.”
“That may be true. However, the larger the Nak you have, the greater the burden it will have when crossing the boundary. It will be difficult to cross them right away.”
“Even if there’s someone lucky enough to get out, there’s a high chance that they’ll be a dirty guy, right?”
“You could say that. Of course.”
Maybe not.
Quilbian stepped aside to avoid the oncoming carriage. The two children walking behind him also stood alongside Quilbian.
It was when the carriage was passing through a narrow road.
The stone that had been weighed down by the wheel bounced up. Quilbian reached out and caught the stone flying into the child’s eye.
The child just blinked in surprise at the hand that had entered his field of vision.
Quilbian glanced at the child who was nodding his head in bewilderment, then stood at the intersection where the carriage had passed.
I bent down and examined the wheel marks. The faint traces of salt-filled rakes remained.
I swept the napkin away with my fingers.
I gently rubbed it between my thumb and index finger and the salt inside was absorbed.
Laughter could be heard from all directions. The owner of the Nak seemed to get pleasure from seeing the child get hurt.
There are all kinds of strange people here.
Quilbian made a seal with his right hand and held a coin in his left. The coin, which had become a temporary talisman, melted and fell to the floor as black droplets.
Five tiny kittens were born.
Happy cat outing.
If you summon a hundred or so and command them at the same time, you’ll lose your mind, but if you summon five or so, you can manage them with ease.
As soon as the wandering cats regained consciousness, they scattered in all directions.
“What the hell kind of rat, hehe!”
“It was a very black rat.”
It was so small that it looked like a rat to people.
My eyes became dizzy as the five-part clock overlapped.
I looked closely for any traces of Nak.
The nak itself is a faint place, and the nak containing the salt is special, so you will be able to find it quickly.
Finally, a cat sent a signal.
“Welcome.”
It was a place that sold tableware. Everything from child-made, messy dishes to quite sophisticated plates.
“Whatever you’re looking for.”
“wait a minute.”
Quillbian looked at the top of the shelf. A cat that had been scratching the wall as if digging a hole suddenly turned its head and fell into the folds of its owner’s skirt.
“Mom!”
The cat ran out of the store while the owner was startled and twisted around.
“Wait, wasn’t that a cat just now?”
“It was a rat. A really small rat.”
Quilbian smiled faintly, bought a wooden cup, and went out.
The cat inside the store had gone back to the back of the building. Quilbian looked into the gloomy alley between the buildings.
The smell was terrible, as if it was a garbage dump. I frowned and went inside.
It was when I clicked my tongue while stepping on squishy, rotten food.
One of the cats went missing.
The cat was cut off. Before the cat disappeared, what he saw was a dog with bright red eyes.
Quilbian rolled his feet. After stepping on the roof of the two-story building, he jumped up again, using Nak as support.
“There it is.”
The moment I set my gaze on him, he reacted.
The guy who had been running around among the people started to run quickly.
He was a guy with great intuition.
Quilbian landed lightly on the floor and moved away. He had four cats attached to him. There was no way he would miss them.
The guy was running all over the place.
Even though he must have noticed the cat’s presence, he strangely did not leave the village.
No, can’t you get out?
Quilbian locked the Nak and erased the smell.
In the meantime, the cats disappeared one by one.
The guy is getting bolder little by little.
When dealing with the last cat, he even pressed it with his front paw and examined it closely.
Quilbian was watching the scene from the roof.
I spent over 100 years playing hide-and-seek with goblins. Even though I lived a life half-mad, my memories did not disappear.
The experience was complete, and Quilbian knew how to drive a cautious goblin.
After lifting himself into the air, he landed on the dog, who was busy checking out the cat.
Crunch.
The dog’s back broke and it made a whining sound. People passing by glanced at it for a moment, but quickly withdrew their attention, perhaps thinking that it was dealing with a wild dog.
Quillbian grabbed the drooping dog by the scruff of its neck.
“I know you’re not dead.”
I shook the dog gently, but there was no response. I could clearly see the faint Nak swirling around inside its body.
“Are you irrational? But for someone like Hwang Hyung, it’s quite natural for him to act like a jerk.”
Is there something special about someone who has escaped the realm of the two-faced?
“Kill me, stop it.”
It was when I lifted the dog to eye level and shook it from side to side.
“Put that down!”
Someone was shouting. Quilbian let it go in one ear. It had nothing to do with me.
But it was a mistake.
“That’s a dangerous animal.”
Quillbian looked back. A large young man was watching the dog with wary eyes.
“This one?”
The young man was startled when Quillbian shook the dog.
“You might get hurt if you wake up. Please hand it over to me so I can handle it safely.”
“You have this?”
Quilbian closed his eyes for a moment and examined the man with his eyes. He could not read the Nak. When he looked with the color vision provided by his sixth sense, he saw something different.
A lumpy mana was on the young man’s skin.
It was an interesting phenomenon. There are beings other than Winte who use mana directly.
Although it may not be able to bring about a miraculous change like Manara Winte, which is so weak.
The mana that had been attached to the young man’s body quickly dispersed. The mana that spread into the air was quite beautiful.
“Surely you can see it?”
The young man asked in surprise.
“I took a quick look at it. It’s pretty.”
“Oh, you’re from the same industry. I feel sorry for interfering.”
“Similar industry?”
When I asked the question with a questioning tone, the young man tilted his head in return.
“No?”
“I’ve never had a separate job.”
“Then how… … .”
While we were talking, the dog in my hand shook its body vigorously, perhaps taking advantage of the opportunity.
The musty smell of the odor was flying everywhere. The young man was startled and stepped back.
Quilbian knocked the dog’s scattered Nak away from his body.
“I think I know what this is, can we talk about it?”
Quilbian grabbed the dog by the snout and crushed it. The trembling dog died spraying Nak.
The body did not melt.
Is it because, unlike the other realms, it is a place with abundant mana?
He threw the dog at the young man. The young man stepped back without catching the dog.
“It’s a gift.”
“Huh, how come you’re still fine despite being cursed?”
“This isn’t even on the curse list. You’re not going to take it?”
“No, you should take it. It’s safer if you collect it.”
The young man untied the cloth he was wearing at his side and wrapped the dog’s body in it, being careful not to let it touch bare skin.
“Do we have time to talk? I don’t know much, so I have to pick up on things.”
The young man’s expression looked complicated.
I couldn’t decide whether to be cautious or friendly.
“If you need to report something suspicious, take me to your superiors. If not… … .”
“Okay, I see. I guess we’ll have to talk about it first since we’ve definitely caught the dogma.”
“Dogma? You call that dogma?”
“Yes, that’s what we call them. Well, in other places, they are called ghosts or goblins.”
“I don’t care what the name is. It’s not like it was decided by God.”
As I was following the young man, an armed guard appeared and blocked the young man’s path.
Then he looked back and forth between the paper in his hand and the young man’s face, then said, “Is that right?” and pushed the window in.
“Now, just a moment. Why are you doing that?”
As the young man tried to move his hands in confusion, the guard shouted.
“Stay still! Lift one finger and I’ll stab you right in the face.”
“You have to tell me what’s going on… … .”
“Shut up! Just shut your mouth and lie down so that you can be investigated properly. I won’t warn you anymore.”
People began to gather.
The young man looked around with a troubled look on his face. It seemed as if he was thinking of running away.
Although he didn’t have a full grasp of the young man’s physical abilities, it was clear that the guard in front of him was beyond his reach.
“Let’s put the window down and talk.”
As Quilbian intervened, one of the guards flinched and immediately turned his spear.
“What are you! An accomplice? Otherwise, stop meddling and step back. Before you see the bad things happen.”
Despite the loud shouts, the guards were very tense.
Quilbian took out the gold medal he had received from Rookie from his bosom and threw it. There is a way that is more certain than words, so is there a need to explain it in detail?
A gold medal fell to the floor.
The guard glanced at the gold badge, then glared at Quilbian again.
“Look at that carefully. Mr. Rookie said it would help.”
“who?”
The guard who asked back lowered his gaze and picked up the gold plate with a flinch. The other two guards, excluding the one facing the young man, stared at the gold plate and then at Quilbian.
“I have some business with this guy, so I can get an explanation, right?”
“Oh, yes. Of course.”
Wherever you go, power reigns supreme. Quilbian smiled contentedly and took back the gold medal.
“Put that window down too. I’ll hold on to it so he can’t escape.”
I put my hand on the young man’s shoulder. The young man looked uncomfortable and tried to move his shoulder away.
Of course, I didn’t move at all. I watched the young man’s expression change from moment to moment and then asked the guard.
“What on earth is going on?”
“He is a murderer whose reputation is widely known in the surrounding villages and even as far away as Roland. He is a very scary man.”
The guard unfolded the paper he was holding. It had a picture drawn on it that was as clear as a photograph. Oh, is there a photograph here too?
Anyway, the face drawn on the paper looked surprisingly similar to the young man.
It wouldn’t be strange even if I saw it and drew it.
“It’s the same.”
“It’s not me!”
The young man looked at the paper in horror. His face became increasingly distorted, unlike when he had confidently declared no. Soon, the young man continued to say that he was being treated unfairly.
“No, it does look similar, but it’s not me. Killing people? I don’t do things like that!”
“The kids who said they wouldn’t do it always did it.”
Quilbian smiled at the young man.
“Just get investigated. If he’s not a murderer, then there’ll be no problem.”
The young man with the sullen expression soon nodded.
“I am innocent. I did not commit murder. Let’s go! I will prove my innocence.”
It was a young man who shouted confidently while looking at the guards.
Quilbian spoke to the guard holding the paper.
“I’ll go with you. It won’t be a problem, right?”
“Of course. I will take care of it.”
He smiled brightly and started walking.
