The Magician’s Memorial - Chapter 27
Only Krnovel
Episode 27
The routine remained unchanged.
After waking up, cleaning, eating, studying, eating, cleaning. In the afternoon, practicing magic in Alterea’s room.
And when the sun goes down, go to bed.
“I got the feeling perfectly.”
Drich said from his bed.
It has been ten days since he learned magic from Altera. Drich has been practicing magic in a unique way.
“I think I can handle one of them, as long as there are no distractions. Especially Geron.”
Quilbian was reminded of the ascetic Geron.
A goblin wandering around the dormitory.
He only showed his face during cleaning time and spent the rest of the time wandering around the dormitory looking for something.
The amount of Nak that I could see with my own eyes was less than that of other ascetics. Depending on the operating method, the amount of power that can be drawn out at one time will be small.
He was a perfect prey.
I start with the weak.
That was the basics of fighting.
“You know, you’re always looking at the ground, looking for something. What on earth are you looking for?”
Drich asked.
“Well, do you have any money hidden away?”
I briefly wondered if goblins needed money, but it wasn’t a serious conversation, so I let it slide.
It wasn’t a topic that would go on for a long time anyway.
But Drich didn’t let go of the conversation.
“Or maybe it’s something as important as money.”
“I suddenly got hooked. Why? Should I look it up first?”
“We’re going to have a war soon, so we need to be prepared for anything. We’re laying the groundwork. I think we’ve found what you’re looking for, Master! Like this.”
“And then?”
“Luring me to a dark place… … .”
“What are you doing?”
Drich was impressed.
“Let’s speak more politely.”
“What are you going to do with him if not by beating him up?”
“… … Leading to death, there are also such noble expressions.”
“What a surprise.”
I heard footsteps outside. I exchanged glances and pulled the blanket up. The door opened with a squeak.
Light flickered over her closed eyelids.
Quilbian twisted his body as if he was sleeping.
Eventually the light went out and the door closed.
After a few minutes of silence, Drich spoke.
“It was Geron.”
“You always stir up the room.”
“It must have been like that before too. We just didn’t notice.”
They must be taking care of the pigs they are raising to make sure they are growing well and not sick.
Quillvian laughed.
They’ll never know there’s an awl stuck under their chin.
“But you know, I’m getting more and more worried.”
Drich said.
“what?”
“What do you think, teacher?”
“How many times have I told you? Don’t waste your energy on problems that don’t have answers.”
“The more I think about it, the stranger it gets.”
Drich raised himself up.
“I don’t remember much about the outside world. But I know strangely well about goblins. How they tricked the ascetics, where they got all those magic books, and… …”
Quilbian waved his hand.
“Son, I know you’re cautious, and I know that’s a good thing. But I know one thing for sure. If that guy’s on the goblin’s side, we’re all screwed.”
“So let’s prepare for the eventuality.”
“I am doing that.”
“You’re doing it?”
Quillvian snapped his fingers.
“What are you and I learning?”
“Law. Ah, I know what you mean.”
“Yeah. Even if you roll it around here and there, what will it end up being?”
“A fist is the solution?”
“yes.”
“If my father heard that, he would be shocked.”
“Why? Does your father believe in something other than fists?”
“Political power. The tongue is more fearsome than the fist.”
“Based on my experience, that’s not true. Why? I tried to persuade the owner with words and got beaten up. That’s when I realized, Ah! A lot of things can be solved with a fist.”
“You too have had a difficult life.”
“You seem to have a pretty gruesome family history, even if you say that. Like last time, there was a story about family members wielding knives and such.”
Since I’ve dealt with Nak, I’ve been sleeping less. As I’ve been staying up longer, I’ve been chatting more.
It’s better to vent your feelings by talking rather than keeping your mouth shut and eyes closed, as this will only increase your anxiety. Drich seems to think the same.
“My father is very greedy.”
“Is there anyone who is not greedy?”
Quilbian giggled and took the words.
“Yeah. But the problem is that the brothers are equally greedy.”
“Brothers full of greed.”
“My uncles… … .”
“Uncle?”
“My father’s brothers. That is, my seventh and eighth uncles wanted my father’s business. It’s a matter of inheritance… … .”
“Hey, it’s complicated just listening to you. So you two got greedy and ended up fighting each other?”
“That’s clear. That’s right, they fought over who would take more. At first, with words, then with pressure through officials, and finally with the sword.”
“Who won?”
“I’m alive and well.”
“Hey, your father must be good at using a knife.”
Drich smiled bitterly.
“The people below you were good. Having good bloodlines means you can attract good human resources.”
“Is it okay for me to be jealous at this point?”
“What good would it do to be jealous? Right now, I’m trapped in a cage made by a goblin.”
Quillbian got out of bed and headed to the window. He could see the sky wall blocking out the sky.
“So I have to go out. I have to go see our cute little piglets.”
“If I go out to play, will you catch a pig for me?”
Drich came up to me and said.
“I’ll sneak one out for you without telling the owner.”
“What if I get caught?”
“I have to hit him with my body, you know. My friend wants to catch some meat, so I have to do that much.”
“You and I, were friends? I’m Buten and you… … .”
“Oh my gosh! I can’t be friends with such a noble person.”
I pushed Drich away and lay down on the bed. Drich chuckled and sat down on his own bed.
“When you get out, come find me in the three cities of Nata. The Pien Production Association is my home there.”
“I even remembered where I lived.”
“uh.”
“But it’s called the Kingdom of Nata. It’s a magnificent place. Our landlord often told us that all civilizations flow into Nata, where they are processed and recreated. I heard that there are giant men made of steel walking around there.”
“It’s not common, but it does exist.”
“It’s like the difference between heaven and earth compared to the countryside where I live.”
“All places where people live are similar.”
“When such words come out of the master’s mouth, the common people become depressed.”
I laid my head on the pillow and closed my eyes.
“now.”
“Okay, I should go to sleep.”
It was time to catch my breath.
“Quil.”
“Because I’m sleeping.”
“Can we go out?”
“Thoughts, useless worries, pointless concerns. Whenever these things come to mind, hit your head with your fist. Then you’ll feel better.”
As he said that, Quilbian hit his head with his hand. He heard Drich’s laughter. Along with the sound of his head being hit, there was a thud.
“If I had seen it from the outside, we would have become friends for life.”
Drich said.
“No way.”
“It’s true. I really like you.”
“I don’t really believe that. We met outside, right? Then we wouldn’t have even noticed each other. You would have gone by my neighborhood in a carriage or something, and I would have been feeding pigs while making a fuss.”
“No, you and I would have become friends. Such was our fate… … .”
“Damn. One teacher is enough for that damn fatalist.”
Quilbian said, “Grow up,” and pulled the blanket over his head.
*
Today, too, I headed to the restaurant after lunch as a ‘material’.
Drich had a very tense expression on his face.
“I don’t want to see you again.”
Drich also saw it right in front of his nose. A goblin ate one of his students.
I thought he was holding out well, but as soon as the goblin left, he vomited out what was inside him.
“What can I do? I have to become numb.”
Quilbian also spoke to calm his rumbling stomach.
Altera, who was walking ahead, turned his head.
“Don’t worry, we’re the only ones using the restaurant today.”
“That’s a relief. I don’t have to watch people die.”
After entering the restaurant, I received some black porridge and sat down.
“Are you okay, teacher?”
Quilbian asked, his face red.
“what?”
“I’ve seen people die over and over again. I said I had to become numb, but I wondered if I could really become numb.”
“To be honest, I didn’t care. While they were eating humans, I was right there enjoying this.”
The sound of dishes clashing was somehow eerie. Drih was putting porridge in his mouth while keeping an eye on Altera.
“So that’s what I’m saying.”
Altera put down her spoon.
“If something happens… … you guys will have to kill me.”
“I was planning on doing that anyway.”
“Yeah, that’s right.”
“But judging by the fatalism you praise and Twella’s abilities, that won’t happen. If you were a threat, Twella would have eliminated you. That’s why we can eat in peace, right?”
“That’s right. If I were a variable that would cause trouble, Twella would have taken action in advance.”
“therefore…….”
Altera crossed her arms and stopped talking.
“But you have to be prepared. The life of a supporting actor is not determined by fate.”
I lost my appetite.
Quilbian also put down his spoon.
“If you’re a goblin, both of us will die for sure.”
“Probably so.”
“Shall I tie you up hand and foot and put you in the warehouse right now?”
“That’s difficult.”
“Then what should I do? Should I just stay by your side and stab you with a knife if you blink your eyes?”
“That wouldn’t be bad either.”
“If you make a joke, take it as a joke. Don’t upset people.”
Altera sighed deeply.
“My head is as complicated as yours. The memories that make up me might not be mine? What a strange thing. Even when I’m sleeping, my eyes open wide. And I check my hands and feet. I wonder if they’re mine.”
Quillvian scratched his eyebrow.
Goblins that eat humans are everywhere, but the people we should trust and rely on are suffering from extreme suspicion.
It was a frustrating situation that could not be ruled out, but for which there was no proper solution.
“still…….”
I started talking and then closed my mouth.
An indescribable sense of discomfort came over me. I was headed outside the restaurant. I turned my head to look toward the entrance.
“Your intuition has improved.”
Altera said.
Soon, a goblin with a ghastly appearance entered the restaurant. It was a strange sight, with a finger on its chin, and as it walked, the finger shook like a long beard.
“You are Altera.”
The goblin came and said.
Quilbian fixed his gaze on the plate and opened his ears.
It’s my first time seeing you. Are you from the west?
“Hyodan-nim has called you to the special class. Come and manage Twella.”
“It’s sudden.”
“I heard that a special material wants you. It is said that humans can be ruined when their emotions are swayed, so Hyo-dan-nim wants you to take care of it. So, please organize it and come over today.”
The goblin, whose body was twisted, looked at Drich carefully. Its eyeballs slowly bulged out and soon stretched out, placing themselves in front of Drich’s eyes.
“It’s well-cooked. It’s the right nack for me.”
“It’s my material.”
“But I can use it more usefully. So I’ll take it.”
Drich frowned. Quilbian bit his teeth and raised his head to look at the goblin.
He was a man who couldn’t communicate.
Well, these guys are monsters in human skins. It’s ridiculous to expect them to have common sense.
Should I make a preemptive strike?
It was a time when I was having such worries.
Whoosh! Whoosh!
The flames that rose up in an instant engulfed the goblin. The goblin’s long scream echoed along with the flames.
With a thud, the remains of the goblin fell to the ground.
Quilbian looked at Altera.
Altera said, releasing the hand that had been holding the seal.
“I guess it was meant to be like this.”
