The Magician’s Memorial - Chapter 37

Episode 37
“I don’t want to die.”
He spoke with a slightly trembling voice. Lil, who had received Quilbian’s gaze, spoke with a truly pitiful expression.
“I’m sorry. Seeds are like souls, and if you tear them out, they die. But don’t worry. There’s no pain at all.”
“What the heck.”
The swearing came out naturally. Lil said that I could swear as much as I wanted. If that would make me feel better, I would be happy to listen.
He was completely crazy. He thought of himself as a noble person. He reminded me of the believer I saw in the village. He talked about sacrifice, but he was shameless in avoiding sacrifice himself.
“Those kids in the dorm, we’ll definitely save them.”
“What good is that! I’m going to die.”
“You could save tens, maybe hundreds, of lives with your one life.”
“I am more important than those dozens.”
“How can a person say such a thing?”
Lil responded in horror.
Does this woman know that everything she says is contradictory, or does she not?
Either way, it’s definitely crazy.
“You too were born this way because you received love from your parents. You were able to exist because of your parents’ sacrifice. That’s how the world is. In order for someone to survive, someone else’s sacrifice is necessary.”
“I agree with that. My parents sold me out for money. Huh? If you look at it that way, I’ve already sacrificed myself once. Can’t you spare my life?”
He asked with a tired smile.
Lil looked at Quilbian with cloudy eyes for a while, then turned around, holding the bowl.
“Tell me again when you get hungry. I’ll give it to you then.”
“Noona, Noona Lil! Keep talking. About the sacrifice!”
Lille did not answer, but went towards Drich. He held out the bowl to Drich, who quickly swung his left foot and blew the bowl away.
The bowl spun around in the air. The porridge inside spilled onto the floor, and just as it was about to spill, Drich fell flat on the floor with a thud.
The ropes were tightly binding Drich’s hands and feet.
Lil calmly scooped up the spilled porridge with his hands. The dusty porridge was placed in a bowl.
“Okay, ah.”
Lille grabbed a handful of the meat and stuffed it into Drich’s mouth. Drich struggled and tried to spit it out, but it was no use.
puck!
Lille hit Drich on the head with the bowl. The crude brass bowl dented.
A dull thud followed.
Quillvian saw red blood seeping into the remains of the porridge spilled on the floor.
Drich stopped rebelling and just ate the food quietly.
“Please be quiet. Please, I beg you.”
Lille took a piece of cloth and wrapped it around Drich’s head.
“Food, I’ll make it again. Just wait a minute.”
Lil left the room, leaving behind a humming sound.
Quilbian looked at the prone Drich. The rebellious gaze disappeared. Only deep fear filled his dim pupils.
“That crazy bitch, she tried to kill me.”
“I originally intended to kill you.”
“You said you were going to kill me, like it was nothing! That guy is not human. Absolutely not.”
Would you rather be swallowed by a goblin and die, or be struck to death by a crazed woman’s wielding utensil?
It was a really shitty situation.
Lil returned quickly, sitting on his knees in front of Quilbian and holding out a spoonful of gruel with an affectionate hand.
It was a food I couldn’t refuse. The moment I tried to refuse, a chunk of iron would fly into my head.
He ate the food quietly and opened his mouth carefully.
“I’ll just stay quiet like you said.”
“Yeah, I thought you’d agree since you seem smarter than him.”
“If I’m going to die anyway, I want to help.”
If you find freedom in your hands and feet, opportunities may arise.
“help?”
“I’ll help you no matter what. I don’t want you to just stupidly wait for the day to die. Do you understand how I feel, Sister?”
“I understand, I don’t understand.”
It was Lil who approached with a gentle smile. She wrapped her arms around Quilbian’s head and affectionately stroked the back of his head.
“but.”
Lil’s voice tickled my ears.
“I don’t think it will be of much help, so just stay like this. When Geron returns, I will take a look at the situation and remove the seeds.”
“What the fuck!”
Iro tried to bite the nape of Lil’s neck, but the moment I opened my mouth, a powerful restraining force took over my entire body.
It felt like dozens of invisible hands were pulling me to the floor. The force that had caused Drich to collapse.
Just before his entire body touched the floor, Quilbian suddenly raised his head.
The Nak was moving freely inside his body, but it wasn’t being emitted. He looked at the reel, resisting the force flowing out of the rope.
“Sister, I don’t die easily. Even when three children died in that cramped warehouse, I didn’t die. Even when a terrible disease broke out, I overcame it. I’m that kind of kid. I’m definitely not going to die easily.”
“No matter what, if you cut off my neck, I’ll die?”
Quilbian looked at the Nak flowing out of the rope.
Altera said that Narc itself has no power. It is the mana drawn to Narc that causes the phenomenon.
Now I understand.
How Geron destroyed the law.
Nak was like a shepherd dog. Manara would guide the flock of sheep in the right direction and magic would be realized.
You can’t mess with a flock of sheep. They will run wild if you try to touch them directly.
So, hit the Nak that contains the opponent’s will. If the shepherd dog falls down, the flock will not move.
but.
“Eww!”
No matter how hard he tried, he couldn’t expel the Nak from his body. Eventually, Quilbian’s body hit the floor with a thud.
My whole body felt cold, as if I had fallen from a high place. I also had a slight tinnitus.
“Then your body will be ruined.”
When Reel tapped my shoulder, the strength that had been suppressing my entire body disappeared.
“I’m resting.”
After patting Quilbian’s head, Lil picked up the bowl and headed out.
“No, no. I can’t die like this. How did I ever live? There are so many things waiting for me outside!”
Drich screamed.
He begged for his life, but Lil only hummed and did not respond to Drich’s cries.
“Please! I’ll do anything you tell me to do. Kidnapping kids? I’ll do that too. What two can’t do, three can do. Lil! Excuse me! Please talk to me!”
Drich kept coughing dryly, as if his throat was sore.
“He said he has no intention of saving me. So instead of begging, think of a way.”
When Quilbian said a word, Drich glared.
“You were the problem from the beginning.”
“I?”
“It’s not because of your foolish actions that I ended up like this! Why did I do this… … .”
“Should I have left you alone when you came to your senses in the dorm? If I had, you wouldn’t have ended up like this, as you said. You would have been beaten to death by the kids, or eaten by the ascetics.”
“Shut your mouth.”
“How do you close a punctured spout?”
Drich struggled.
“I’m different from you! I’m not the kind of person who deserves to die in a place like this. Do you understand?”
“I don’t know. I don’t know, so shut up.”
“That’s why you shouldn’t get along with those below you. No, no, Quill. You try to persuade that girl. From what I saw earlier, it seemed like she was listening to you to some extent.”
Drich’s eyes wavered unfocused. He seemed unaware of what he was saying.
A brief silence followed.
Lamenting my fate didn’t change anything.
Method. I had to find a way out of here. It was when I looked at Drich while racking my brain.
The guy’s expression became strange.
“Father! Father, I’m sorry. I didn’t do it because I wanted to. It was what my uncle told me to do. Okay? Please believe me! Father!”
Boom, boom, boom!
Drich hit his head on the floor. The area where he had been hit by Lille split open and blood flowed out again.
“Father! Don’t come! Put that knife down!”
A terrified Drich crawled to the wall. He crouched down and started mumbling something, but it was hard to hear.
Why is it like that?
I couldn’t understand why I was suddenly seeing things and freaking out.
“this.”
Lil came running into the room late and approached Drich, who was pressed against the wall.
Drich, who was held in Reel’s arms, struggled for a while and then slowly closed his eyes.
“It seems to have started.”
“What starts?”
It was an ominous sign. Quilbian looked back and forth between the unconscious Drich and Lil.
“How much do you remember about the outside?”
“I remember most of it.”
“Really? But you don’t seem to have a seizure, so I guess you’re similar to me.”
It was Lil who carefully lowered Drich’s head. He looked grotesque. He had just hit his head with a brass bowl, and now he seemed worried about getting hurt.
“I guess most of the kids who were brought here ended up like that?”
Regardless of my feelings, I found a way to continue the conversation. No matter what, if I talk to Lil, I will get information and have a chance to escape.
“Yeah, everyone did that. Four years ago too.”
Lil took a towel and wiped Drich’s face.
“At first, I didn’t think much of it. I thought it was because I had a nightmare, or because I was tired. But as time went by, it got worse. And the number of people having seizures increased.”
“Is your sister okay?”
“I was fine. All my memories from outside came back, but I only had a slight headache and that was it. But the others were going crazy. Mien, she was particularly bad. She kept talking nonsense, like her body was here but her mind was somewhere else. And then… … .”
Reel covered his face with both hands.
“I stabbed the neck of the Parson I was sleeping with. When I asked him why, he smiled brightly and said, ‘I was digging sweet potatoes.’”
Even though he was unconscious, Drich continued to call out for his father. As his memories returned, he wondered if he had serious mental problems.
“Every single one of them went crazy. So we had no choice but to bring the schedule forward.”
Can the word ‘schedule’ be this creepy?
“So that’s why you said you had no choice but to kill him.”
I agreed, holding back my disgust. Lil’s expression was slightly softening.
“Yeah, that’s right. Do you understand what I said now?”
“If the kids are sick, there’s nothing we can do.”
“Yeah. It couldn’t be helped. If things had gone as planned, we would have lived together for a month.”
The more I mixed up my words, the more it felt like a thorn was growing in my throat.
Escape, kids, schedule, and plans 4 years ago.
The worst conclusion was forming in my head. I wanted to ignore it, but I had to check.
“Hey, sis.”
“huh?”
“It was Geron who planned the escape four years ago, right? And somehow, you ended up here with the kids.”
I just stared at Reel’s mouth nervously.
A crooked smile was beginning to form.
“No. I told Geron. Help me so I can change you.”
Really, no way.
“… … From whom did you learn information about goblins and magic?”
I prayed inwardly.
Please, let it be different from what I expected.
“There was someone who told me. Thanks to that person, I was able to come this far.”
person.
A feeling of emptiness washed over me. Bad feelings always come true.
Oh, shit.
“That person knew a lot about goblins. He also knew how goblins become stronger. He was the only one who gave me hope.”
“hope?”
“Yes, hope!”
Lil’s face was distorted in strange ways, sometimes appearing extremely excited, and sometimes looking as if he was in a state of endless despair.
The mouth of the twisted reel opened.
“Altara, he became a light for me.”
