The Magician’s Memorial - Chapter 48

Episode 48
The third pig came running into the workshop late. Without even saying hello, the third pig ran out of the workshop carrying his work bag.
“I’m busy, I’m busy.”
“therefore.”
Drich and Twella each had a word. The first and second pigs chimed in. Oink, oink.
Quilbian, who had been watching the scene, wiped his face with both hands.
“Again?”
*
I came to my senses.
I stared into the pitch-black darkness and then suddenly remembered, Ah, I can’t see anything.
I tried to raise my hand, but it wouldn’t move. I couldn’t even move a single finger.
Quillvien let out a thin groan.
What the hell is going on?
As I was organizing my thoughts, the pig that ran around in my dream suddenly came to mind. The pig that ran while wearing blue overalls.
I don’t remember the circumstances surrounding the incident, but the shape of the pig remains vivid.
I think I’ve had a similar dream before.
The bizarre content makes me laugh out loud.
If you live with pigs all day, you’ll see pigs in your dreams.
ah.
I remembered.
I fought a goblin.
There has never been a dog fight like this.
The dizzying moment came back to me.
Quilbian grabbed a stone and rushed at the goblin he had caught sight of. However, not all of his problems were solved just because he was able to see the other person.
I fell down after twisting my ankle while running. It felt like I stepped on a rock. I could only guess the distance to the enemy, but I couldn’t tell what was at my feet.
I looked at the goblin while lying face down. It moved slowly. Slowly enough to be frustrating.
He got up again, jumped at the guy, and hit him with a rock.
I felt the soft flesh. The goblin swung its long neck to attack, and it was fairly fast, but not so fast that I couldn’t dodge it.
I jumped to the left, bracing myself to fall, dodged the swinging neck, and charged again.
Hit it with a stone, and hit it again.
Then my wrist was torn and I dropped the stone.
There is no way to find an invisible stone again.
I had no choice but to write this.
I bit into the mushy flesh of the creature and tore it off in one go.
The goblin groped and said, “It hurts.”
I’m so glad to hear that you’re sick.
I tore it open with my teeth, put my hand in the wound and scratched it.
I really clung to it like crazy and dismantled the goblin.
To be honest, my memory was hazy after the third bounce and then reattachment.
Only the feeling remains.
Then I passed out, and I survived and opened my eyes like this… … .
“I won, damn it.”
My mouth felt rough. I shuddered at the thought of the goblin’s flesh being stuck between my teeth.
I barely managed to turn my head and kept spitting.
The neck is movable.
I focused my attention on my fingers and toes. Little by little, feeling was returning.
I survived, I survived again.
“You are really disgusting.”
I heard Twella’s voice from the bedside. I turned my eyes slightly. I saw an illusion of Twella.
She was wearing a leather top. It was the same one I saw in my dream. She looked to be in her late twenties.
“Do you want to live like that?”
“Oh, I’ll live. I’ll go see your face alive, so look forward to it.”
“Do you miss me that much?”
“I miss you so much. I want to kill you.”
“That’s weird, kid.”
It was Twella who was giggling.
“Isn’t life too hard?”
Twella reached out. Her fingers touched his forehead. It must be an illusion, but he could feel the touch of his fingers.
My brain seems to have become even more delicious.
“Are you worth living for?”
“Yeah, I wonder too. Am I doing well, or am I struggling like you?”
“I hope you live well. Then, when I come to see you, your face will be wrinkled.”
“Do you want to kill me that much?”
“Uh. I think I’ll be able to sleep better if I kill you.”
“It’s cruel.”
It was Twella smiling brightly.
“Get out of here. It just came out of my head anyway.”
“Maybe not.”
“Shit.”
“Winte saw me. Quill, maybe I really do exist?”
“I didn’t see you, I analyzed my broken brain. You said you were close to God. I guess you can do that much.”
I gritted my teeth and straightened my upper body. The pain felt like I had been beaten for two days straight.
But the good news is that my hands and feet can move properly.
He raised his hand, rubbed her shoulder, and pressed hard on her calf, which was throbbing and cramping.
“ah.”
The pain actually cleared my mind, and my clear brain reminded me of birds.
“Hey, are you alive? If you’re alive, answer me.”
He clearly heard the sound of the goblin hitting the wall. Quilbian felt around, praying desperately.
Please stay alive, please.
There was something in my hand. It wasn’t a bird. It was a sleek shoe.
“Every time I look at it, it’s a mess.”
It was Winte.
“Winte-nim! There should be a bird nearby. It must be badly injured, but if you take care of it, Winte-nim… … .”
“Is this what you’re talking about?”
Something fell next to him with a thud. Quilbian touched the object with trembling hands.
It’s a feather. A body with no warmth at all.
He’s dead.
Emptiness washed over me. Am I going to die in such a vain way?
“Hey, you idiot. Why didn’t you just fly away? Why did you get beat up by a retard like that?”
My lower jaw trembled. It was a sadness that came a step too late. It was when I lifted the bird’s corpse and held it in my arms.
Something was off. He sniffled and carefully handled the corpse.
“This kid… … isn’t that small.”
“It’s not very interesting for a melodrama.”
“yes?”
Beep, a familiar cry came from Winte’s shoulder. Quilbian stared blankly at Winte.
“I just quieted down the thing that was running wild next to you for a moment.”
“Then this is… … .”
Quillvian slowly put down the bird he was holding in his arms.
“It’s a crow. It’s nothing like the falcon you cherish so much.”
A bird flew in. A familiar weight was felt on his shoulder. Quilbian smiled brightly and hugged the bird.
“You were alive, you were alive.”
“It is a much smarter creature than you. There is no way it would die.”
“Then you should have told me in advance!”
“Why me?”
The curse rose up to the back of my upper teeth. I barely held it back as I tried to spit it out.
“You have a really good personality, Winte.”
“You might as well swear.”
“Hey, you little shit! And you’re still a little kid?”
“You crazy bastard. Are you really telling me to do it?”
“You told me to do that? Why!”
For the first time, Winte made a tsk tsk tongue-clicking sound.
“What was so good about this that you did such a thing?”
Winte said as if he was displeased.
“Who did what?”
“Don’t worry, just hurry up and make some coffee. These are pretty good beans, so take good care of them.”
Bam.
I hit my head and something fell to the floor. It must have been a bag of coffee beans.
He asked while taking care of it.
“Oh, I saw a goblin.”
“If seeing is a talent, then it must be a talent. A rotten talent.”
“Winte-nim said that, right? Vision isn’t everything. If you use Nak… … .”
He moved the nak while talking.
It was still firmly bound and did not move from its place, but it vibrated subtly.
As Nak trembled, light began to swirl around the world.
The wind chime in front of her nose is a strong golden color, and the bird in her arms is a soft green color.
Looking at the floor, I saw red lights mixed with black scattered everywhere. It looked like the remains of a goblin.
“I won. You should have seen me bite it and catch it.”
“I saw it.”
“Did you see it?”
“okay.”
“If you see it, you should help.”
After a pause, just before Winte’s mouth opened, Quilbian chuckled and continued speaking.
“Why am I saying that?”
“No. I just left him alone because he couldn’t possibly die.”
“… … If you almost died, would you have tried to save me?”
“okay.”
“why?”
“Because I need someone to make coffee.”
The golden light disappeared. Quilbian looked up after a moment of hesitation. In the distance, on what seemed to be a rooftop, a golden light formed.
“Anyway, he’s a strange guy.”
Quillvien tickled the bird’s head.
“By the way, you’re a hunter. I’ve seen them a few times. The rich people coming and going from town keep them for hunting. They look pretty cool. Do you look like that too?”
A hawk that had been lightly pecked the back of my hand with its beak flew up into the sky.
Only then did the tension in my body disappear. Yes, I was alive.
He moved his hand and held the dead crow.
I have to ask.
After getting up, he spat towards the remains of the goblin. He would clean it up later.
As Nak fell asleep, the world became dark again. I could see Winte, the goblin, and the falcon.
I squeezed Nak again.
The golden one on the rooftop is Winte, and the one wandering in the distant sky is a falcon.
I looked around.
There was only darkness.
The crow’s body also remained unchanged.
Do you only see living things?
Then why can’t we see things like insects that are all over the place?
wait for a sec.
Quilbian looked back.
The scattered remains of the goblin, emitting a crimson light, gradually fade away.
“Is it a nak?”
He shook his head, muttering to himself.
If you can see the Nak.
“Why is that guy visible?”
Why do I see a hawk flying in a large circle?
There is one person who can tell me the truth… … .
Quilbian looked at Winte, who was shining golden.
Even if you ask, he won’t answer. He’ll just nag you to get some coffee or something.
After burying the crow’s body, I went into the room.
My whole body ached. I laid my head on the pillow and covered myself with the blanket. I waited in a daze to fall asleep, and then the fight with the goblin came to mind.
A small laugh came out.
I won.
I caught a goblin for the first time.
It was a dogfight, but I was the one who survived. Nak is also listening to me, even if it’s just a little bit.
Small hopes were gathering.
Maybe I’ll survive till the end and escape this place.
The question Winte posed came back to life.
What are you going to do next?
“You’re going to kill me?”
As if waiting, Twella’s illusion appeared. Quilbian stared blankly at the illusion.
“Why are you looking at me like that?”
“I know. Even if I say I’ll kill you dozens of times, it’s impossible.”
“Are you giving up?”
Quillvian placed his clasped hands on the back of his head.
“If I get out of here alive, will I even remember someone like you? I’ll live happily.”
“Happiness? What kind of happiness do you want?”
“You have to work hard until you become an adult. The owner is a piece of shit, but he’s very thorough when it comes to money. If you go out and work for a few years, you can escape from slavery.”
“What next?”
“I’ll beat the owner just enough to keep him from dying. I’ll pay him back for the unfair beatings he received. The owner will understand. And that bitch. I’ll throw her in a pigsty and roll her around for half a day. That’ll make her come to her senses.”
Just thinking about it makes me laugh.
“Once I’m done organizing, I’ll leave the village. I’ll go to Bamigel and open a shop.”
“Can you do business with that personality?”
“I’m good at pleasing people. You may not know it, but.”
“And then?”
“I need to find a partner. A woman who will be with me for the rest of my life.”
Twella’s face came close to his nose. She looked straight at Quilbian with her soft green eyes.
“Quil. But you know what?”
The strands of hair that had fallen down touched Quilbian’s face.
“I know that the word trust has disappeared from your heart. From now on, you will be suspicious of people you meet. You can give affection. But even while giving affection, you will be watching them.”
Twella whispered in my ear.
“Because you’ll be afraid that I’ll betray you like you did.”
Twella covered her mouth with both hands and chuckled, as if what she said was so funny.
Quilbian asked back with a blank face.
“Have you ever trusted anyone?”
Twella did not answer.
