The Magician’s Memorial - Chapter 60

Episode 60
An intense light suddenly came closer.
Quilbian smiled brightly and reached out to the sun.
and.
Kwaaaaang!
It bounced off with a loud noise that shook the heavens and the earth.
As he accelerated and headed fiercely toward the ground, Quilbian looked up at the sun in a dazed state.
sick.
It hurts so much I could die.
But, I won’t die.
thud!
I was thrown to the ground.
My whole body was so numb that I couldn’t even move a finger.
It was a pain I hadn’t felt in a long time.
Laughter flowed out bashfully.
“It hurts, damn it.”
A hawk flew in and landed next to me.
It must be an illusion to feel like you’re being looked at pitifully.
Well, that’s true.
Quillbian slowly raised his left arm. There was a lump of flesh attached to his fingertips.
An unidentified power left behind by Winte.
I rubbed my fingers gently. The power of the Winte that had been buried floated across the surface of my skin like water meeting oil, and at some point it was absorbed.
I opened my hands wide and looked back and forth.
There was no significant change.
When absorbing the goblin’s nak, I felt a strong sense of becoming ‘healthy’, but Winte’s power only left a faint sensation like grabbing the wind, and there was no physical change.
I lay on the floor and watched the setting sun. The hawk that had been guarding my side disappeared for a moment and then returned.
Bam.
The apple hit his forehead and fell to the ground. The hawk stared blankly at Quilbian’s face before flying up.
Do it moderately, that was the look in his eyes.
Night came and morning came.
I groaned and raised my upper body, but I couldn’t get any strength into my pelvis.
He hit his thigh with his fist.
I don’t feel anything.
If a third party had seen this, they would have been furious and said something terrible had happened, but Quilbian sniffled once and lay back down.
Is it a crushed nerve or a shattered spine?
I lay on the floor and watched the sun slowly pass overhead.
A week passed like that.
Quilbian reached out and pinched her thigh. It hurt. She tightened her grip on her thigh.
The relaxed muscles tightened up. I tried bending my knees. My left leg lifted, but my right leg didn’t respond.
“Not yet.”
I lay down again.
Boom. Today was potatoes. I moved my hand and made a small hole on the left. I put the potato in and grinned.
Another ten days passed.
Is it ten days?
I counted the changes of day and night, but it may not be a proper record because I was just staring blankly at the sky during the process.
Sprouts have sprouted from the buried potatoes.
It had tenacious vitality even though I didn’t give it water.
Quillbian cut a sprouted potato in half, put it in his mouth, and chewed.
Around that time, I regained feeling in my toes. I wiggled my toes while lying down, then bounced back up to get up.
After shaking off the dirt, I looked down at my body quietly.
“… … Well, it would be hard to die.”
I don’t plan on dying, but what should I do later, when a really long time has passed and I don’t want to live anymore?
If I ask Winte, will he finish it right away?
After soothing the screaming joints, I took my first light step.
My body was swaying. It felt like there was a slight mismatch between what my body and my head remembered.
If you stretch this much, the soles of your feet should touch the ground, but it feels like they touch the ground a little late?
I ran around slowly.
There was no need for a break. I ran and ran. When the sun passed overhead about ten times, my body’s balance was perfect.
I kicked my feet with all my might.
It seemed to have risen 15 meters.
Fight!
I fell to the soft ground. The ground caved in and my ankles sank into the dirt.
My ankles are fine, my knees are fine, and my back is fine.
It felt like it was getting stronger rather than getting older over time.
Quilbian focused on the Nak moving leisurely inside his body. Unlike when he was completely frozen, the Nak was moving freely around his body.
However, unlike the body, which was far beyond common sense, the total amount of Nak did not increase significantly.
Compared to when I first learned magic, it was like a cup of water turning into a well, but compared to my body that had become a monster, I was skeptical, wondering, ‘Have I really improved?’
Was the goblin’s nak, which he had been tired of swallowing, used to tear apart his body and fix it?
The worries didn’t last long.
Because thinking about it didn’t change anything.
There was plenty of time. So much so that I couldn’t even guess how many years I would have left.
If you keep doing something, won’t you be able to go over the sky wall someday?
It’s not in my nature to give up and get discouraged. If I was going to give up on life, I would have done it when I was sold to the landlord.
Quilbian wasn’t such a gentle person that he would let everything go now.
It was time to move again.
This time, we set our target to the entire front and back area.
Previously, I had been living in a state of utter insanity and was unable to conduct any planned investigations, but now, reason was keeping its eyes wide open.
But one day I’ll go crazy again and suffer from hallucinations and illusions.
The procedure was simple.
First, I headed towards the Sky Wall. I ran with the wall on my left.
After drawing a large circle along the sky wall, it will move towards the center in a spiral shape like a snail shell.
“You join in too.”
He spoke to the eagle in the sky and put his first plan into action.
*
To cut to the chase, I found nothing.
No, I met goblins often.
As Alterea said, goblins appeared naturally within the realm of the two.
But they weren’t as easy as ascetics. They were just insects carrying Nak.
I haven’t met a single living human being, but I’ve found countless skeletons.
Before ‘that woman’ came, there were unlucky people who fell into the realm of the two-faced. She gathered those people and ran a breeding farm.
Did the appearance of ‘that woman’ really have an impact on the realm of the two-faced?
Quillvin scraped his beard with an old razor blade. His face, still unchanged, greeted him in the mirror.
After smiling brightly, he went into the bedroom.
The right and left sides, as well as the ceiling and floor, were all diagonally marked.
He stared at the stormy wall with his arms crossed.
“There’s no place to hide now. Drich, should we move rooms?”
He spoke to the stone on the bed. Today, too, the stone is embarrassed and remains silent.
I went into the next bedroom.
The names of the kids who used this place are… … .
After thinking about it for about 10 minutes, I gave up.
I can’t remember it at all. Even if I did remember it, it’s not like Gene would like it.
I drew a diagonal line with my fingernail on the spotless wall.
From today, a new day begins.
A day that never ends.
“What should I do now?”
I sat down next to a hawk that was dozing off outside. Fortunately, the hawk didn’t grow any bigger. If it had grown bigger than the house, it would have been quite a problem.
Of course, the bull was so big that it could be lifted easily and flown into the sky.
I looked up at the sun above Jeongsu-ri.
Two or three times a year, it would charge towards the sun. Every time it touched, it would bounce off due to a strong repulsion and crash into the ground.
The more I roll my body, the stronger it becomes, and lately, even when I lie down vertically on the ground, I only feel a dull muscle pain.
At first, I couldn’t move below my waist because my nerves were cut off, but I made great progress.
Every time I touched the sun, it got smaller and smaller.
The sun, now sweeping across the sky, could not illuminate the entire surface and back. Its brightness was also weak, and it was dim, as if covered with dark clouds.
I haven’t touched it for the past two years because I thought it would disappear if I kept touching it.
It’s the only device that tells us the passage of time, so it would be a problem if it disappeared.
There was no way to know where the power of Winte, which had fallen from the sea and been absorbed into his body, had gone.
It may not have been absorbed in the first place, but rather disappeared.
“But aren’t you lonely? I’m not smart enough to feel that way, but you aren’t.”
He climbed onto the hawk’s back and lay down comfortably. The hawk shook its body a few times, then lowered its beak to the ground and let out a small cry, as if everything was bothersome.
“I can promise you this one thing. I will live longer than you. I may look boring, but I will live so that you will be less lonely.”
I plucked out a couple of eagle feathers and made a fan. I waved them gently while looking up at the unchanging sky.
The cloudy sun gradually began to brighten.
I watched closely, wondering if I had seen things wrong.
It wasn’t an illusion. The light was getting stronger. It was also getting bigger.
“Hey, hey hey.”
He shook the falcon. The falcon turned its head in a strange direction and looked up at the sky.
Then it flew up with a long cry.
The falcon headed east.
And after a while.
A golden glow shone across the eastern sky.
Quilbian looked at the approaching golden light with a hollow smile.
The golden light that came down to the ground spoke in that old, now barely recognizable voice.
“coffee.”
A huge sack suddenly appeared from somewhere and fell with a thud in front of Quilbian.
My nose was itchy. A long-awaited scent seeped into my nostrils.
Well roasted coffee beans.
“Where on earth did you go to get coffee?”
“Here and there. By the way, you’re still alive? It must have been quite some time by human standards.”
“Yes, I am alive because I cannot die.”
Quilbian examined Winte’s attire. Previously, she had been wearing something like a flowing skirt, but now she was wearing tight-fitting trousers.
The top was also tight enough to reveal her curves. Her saggy chest and thick belly.
The face was still not visible. It was covered in golden light, so it was difficult to even make out its outline.
“You don’t know how troublesome and difficult it is to come out of a cave.”
“Oysters?”
Where are you talking about?
Winte took a step forward. Then, his once plump body suddenly became thin.
Winte approached and faced Quilbian. It seemed like he had looked down on her before.
“It’s big.”
“It was big.”
“That body is really… … .”
Winte snapped his fingers. Quilbian’s body lifted slightly. He slowly circled in the air before descending to the ground.
“It’s embarrassing to call them humans now.”
“I know I’m not human. What have I become?”
“I don’t know. The realm of the two-faced exists outside of order. You who have adapted to this place, yes. You are a product of disorder.”
A product of disorder.
“I have a question.”
“First, coffee.”
“I’ll bring it, so just answer. If you just left the person behind and disappeared, you could at least give me an answer.”
“I didn’t come here to pamper you. That’s out of the question. Promises are most beautiful when they are kept to the letter.”
“That damn promise. So you’re not going to answer me? Until I get the coffee?”
“Just ask one thing.”
Winte’s feet lifted off the ground. He glided forward, but in the blink of an eye, he had become a dot.
It was an incredible speed.
But it wasn’t to the point where I couldn’t keep up.
The muscles in my thighs and calves tightened. As I kicked off the ground, the air was pushed back, scratching my entire body.
We ran side by side, keeping pace with Winte.
Quilbian screamed loudly.
“You said the reason you helped me was because of a promise, right?”
“okay.”
“Who made that promise? Well, is it a person?”
“I can’t tell you that yet. It’s part of the agreement.”
“Then since you didn’t answer, I’ll ask another question.”
“Or so.”
“Did you know that my body would change like this if I caught a goblin?”
“No. I didn’t know it would change like this. I just threw you in by choosing one of many methods.”
“What if I were dead?”
“Then he’s dead.”
“It really is like a dog.”
“I told you before. I don’t care whether you die or not, or how you change. But… … .”
A face wrapped in gold turned towards Quilbian.
“It’s quite interesting now. It was a time when the absence of existence should have occurred, but you still remained here, protecting your brother. You too survived the designer’s error.”
The gold glittered.
It looked exactly like a smile.
“Now bring me some coffee.”
