The Possessor Mistook the Genre for 20 Years - Chapter 105
104 – The Saintess Wants to Educate the Wizard.
The early morning sky was dyed blue. Franz woke up at his usual time. He didn’t have an alarm clock, but the same routine every day had become a habit.
Even after drinking the night before, he woke up not too late.
‘Oh, I feel refreshed.’
Franz stretched and was surprised by the unexpected freshness.
You know those days, right? When you feel light and refreshed even though you slept the same amount as usual. It happens maybe once or twice a year, but today seemed to be one of those days.
Franz got out of bed and did some stretches he normally wouldn’t do. His body, which had been resting all night, started to wake up as he stretched here and there.
‘I feel like something good is going to happen today.’
There was no particular reason for it, just a feeling. It was what people commonly call a hunch.
But still, starting the morning in a good mood was already a great fortune.
However, Franz’s happiness didn’t last long. As soon as he finished getting ready for work and stepped outside, he saw someone’s face.
“Good morning, Franz.”
“Good morning, Tower Master.”
Eustia and Arian greeted him simultaneously, like sisters. Then they glared at each other sharply, as if they had some sort of grievance.
Franz could only stare at them blankly, unable to say anything.
It was fine seeing Arian, as he was used to her face, but Eustia was different. Her sudden appearance was bewildering.
‘What’s Eustia doing here so early in the morning…?’
Franz was momentarily puzzled, but soon recalled a forgotten memory.
It was the memory of receiving the goddess’s blessing in front of numerous devotees at St. Serpia Cathedral.
Eustia’s visit was undoubtedly because of that.
‘I thought it would take at least a few days…’
There was a banquet and a title conferment ceremony tomorrow. He had hoped she would come after that. Having too many things happen at once was just a headache.
But why were these two bickering from the morning? They seemed quite friendly in the north, but apparently not so much now.
In the midst of this confusing situation, Franz sighed and sat on the sofa.
Then he greeted them a bit late.
“Good morning to both of you.”
At his words, both of their gazes turned to Franz.
Arian spoke.
“Tower Master, would you like some tea?”
“Yes, I’ll have some.”
Hearing Franz’s answer, Arian immediately stood up. She took a step, then another, to make the tea.
Suddenly, she looked back and said.
“Ah, right. The Saintess is here, isn’t she? I almost forgot. Would you like some tea as well, Saintess?”
It was absurd to say he almost forgot, considering they had just made eye contact.
His intention was blatantly obvious, but Justia remained unshaken. After all, she was the one holding the winning hand.
At least for today, it was Justia’s day.
“Of course, I must drink it. It’s tea made personally by the Lady.”
“…Yes, I’ll make it very delicious for you.”
Arian’s expression was certainly smiling, but his voice was so cold it felt almost eerie.
Franz, who wished they would get along, felt utterly frustrated, but he didn’t want to intervene. He feared that if he did, it might lead to unnecessary bloodshed.
Well, not actual bloodshed, but it was that tense.
As Arian left to make the tea, Franz and Justia began their conversation in earnest.
Justia was the first to speak.
“You don’t seem very surprised that I’m here?”
“I was surprised. I just quickly figured out why you came.”
“If you know, then this will be quick. To get to the point, the Goddess Church has decided to recognize you as the Holy Father. Given your actions at the cathedral, it’s only natural.”
So it has come to this…
He had somewhat expected it, but he had hoped it wouldn’t happen.
Of course, for the followers of the Goddess Church, it would be a great honor. Some would be willing to give everything to become the Holy Father. But the problem was that Franz was not a follower of the Goddess Church.
Moreover, just looking at the life of Justia, the Saintess, it was clear. Whether Saintess or Holy Father, the higher one rose in the Goddess Church, the more troublesome it became.
‘Why couldn’t I be an honorary believer…’
Knowing what lay ahead, Franz let out a long sigh.
From noble mtl dot com
“Do you know how much trouble you caused me yesterday? I had to meet with His Holiness the Pope and talk, and the followers were so noisy…”
“Sorry, I didn’t mean to.”
To be honest, the most aggrieved was Franz himself. He would now have to suffer continuously in a position he never wanted.
But since Justia had also had a hard time, he apologized. Besides, it would be ridiculous to complain about becoming the Holy Father in front of the Saintess.
“Well, it’s okay. At least I won’t suffer alone, right?”
Justia said with a smile.
Smiling at someone else’s suffering, can a Saintess do that? He thought, but had nothing to say, so he just sighed.
“By the way, you will need to undergo some training for a while.”
“Training…?”
Franz’s expression naturally hardened. For someone who had spent over 12 years rotting in an institution called school, it was the most unpleasant word.
Yustia, flustered, continued speaking.
“It’s not something bad. I just want to learn a bit about the Goddess Church. It’s a bit awkward for the Holy Father to be ignorant, isn’t it?”
Franz’s expression grew even darker at the thought of learning about a religion he didn’t even believe in.
“I’ll teach you. It’s not that difficult. You just need to know some basic ideologies and doctrines…”
Yustia was urgently trying to persuade Franz when—
Clink.
A teacup was placed on the table.
Arian, who slowly lifted her head, was smiling a sly smile.
“Oh my, Saintess. Having trouble with something?”
“It’s none of your business…!”
“I’m serving the Tower Master, so of course, it is my business.”
Arian said this as she gracefully poured tea into the teacup. The red liquid, emitting a subtle fragrance, filled the cup.
It was a complete reversal of the previous situation. Just before, Yustia had been relaxed, and Arian had been anxious.
As the two began their war of nerves, Franz made a decision.
Sipping his tea, he carefully placed the cup down and spoke.
“I’ll accept it. That education.”
He had to take responsibility for what he had started. Even if it was unfair, the fact remained that he had become the Holy Father.
But for this, he would have to apologize directly to the Goddess.
People should be pushed only so far; this was too much.
At Franz’s answer, Yustia and Arian spoke simultaneously.
“Really?!”
“Why?!”
A smile spread across Yustia’s face, while shock spread across Arian’s. Franz’s decision had brought joy and sorrow to the two.
Without answering their questions, Franz continued speaking.
“But there are conditions. It has to fit my schedule. As you know, I have a lot of things to do.”
“That’s fine. If it’s difficult to come to the cathedral, I’ll come here myself.”
“That’s why I’m saying, tomorrow is not possible.”
“Tomorrow? Is something happening tomorrow…?”
Yustia tilted her head, looking puzzled.
Come to think of it, Justia only knows that she will become a duke, but she doesn’t know the detailed schedule.
It’s not really a secret, so I guess it’s okay to tell her.
“There will be a title conferment ceremony tomorrow. From the day after tomorrow, I’ll somehow make time, so please bear with me for just one day.”
“That’s tomorrow? Why are you telling me this just now?!”
Justia asked back, her eyes wide open.
Franz was just as surprised by her reaction.
Since the Goddess Church’s affairs are busy, she wouldn’t be able to come anyway, so he didn’t see a reason to mention it.
It’s also a bit funny for a saint to enjoy a banquet.
“Are you sure it’s tomorrow?”
“Yes, but why? Are you coming?”
“The Holy Father said he would attend such an event, so of course I have to go.”
Is that how it works…?
Franz didn’t know for sure, but since Justia said so, it must be okay.
Franz decided to think about it lightly and move on. It would be annoying to delve deeper.
